monty has past his sell by date.good servant-yes,loyal servant-yes,time to move on-yes,purely on footballing terms he is not good enough to play wilson`s game unfortunately.
thanks for loyalty mr montgomery, but i dont think your future lies here.

See that I agree with. Slagging him off for the sake of it is borderline neanderthal

Neanderthal:
Often called a "Leah". An idiotic human who spends their time hurling abuse in the street because that's all they can do. Their language revolves around the word "fuck", and they insult people who are smarter than them through jealousy and envy.
Often know for 'sponging' off the council, and most of the time they live in a council house because of lack of funds and lazy, idiotic parents.

thankyou!

I'm playing Devil's Advocate mate.

I didn't say those things. They have been said on here time and time again. Big contradiction from the "knockers", they hate him but when they want a bit of passion, want him back in.

He's not the most gifted player but he's been a loyal servant. 350+ games speaks for itself. The managers get paid to pick players, we have to pay to watch them. I think I know who knows best

Most of what you say is, quite simply, wrong.

There is no question of 'hate'. That is ridiculous. There is, however, a long-standing despair at the presence in our team of someone so bereft of footballing talent.

I have certainly never advocated his selection, in any match - big or small - on account of his passion. I prefer football to chaos.

As for the managers, well personally I wouldn't want the validity of my argument to depend upon the abilities and selections of the likes of Robson, Quickfix and the former semi-pro, non-league, reserve goalie.

He has a good engine, but needs a playmaker with him. Messi rates him as hs toughest opponent. The sky is Blue.

What Gav said.

Blaming Monty for the situation the club is in is like blaming one raindrop when your house gets flooded.

Monty isn't to blame for us being in the division we are in, and nor is he to blame for the financial situation we are in. Monty is also far from being the "shite" footballer some would have us believe. He's a long way from being brilliant, but he's also a long way from being useless too. It's a shame that people can't see beyond their hatred, but there you go.

I like Monty, but I've always said we should get rid if him of we can get better players in, and that should hold true for every other player we have got too. Well, Doyle and KMac now are our best midfield pairing by a long way, and Monty doesn't fit with the sort of player Wilson likes, and the sort of player we need to progress beyond being merely a "blood and thunder" style of side.

So thanks for the service Monty, but now it's time for you and the club to move on.

Another constructive argument. That is how to put your point across.

Not like some morons on here. "He should never have played 1 game never mind 300!"

If and when Monty leaves the club he'll go with my thanks for having gIven nothing less than 100% in almost every game he has played for us. He has limited ability as a creative player but his value in a defensive or spoiling role is unquestionable and he was a key part of a team that delivered a very successful period for us.

What the club have paid him is irrelevant - we all take as much money home as our employers will give us. All I ask as a fan is that players give their best and he's never let us down on that score. The abuse he's received on this forum is pretty sickening from so-called Blades fans... Mindless and pathetic. Doubtless they're already searching for a new fall guy this season. That kind of "supporter" would be better attending the Piggery cos they're certainly not red and white if they're prepared to abuse a lad who gives his all for the Blades.

It makes me laugh when people slag him saying don't play him don't play him. Then every year we go to Hillsborough, the same moronic idiots say. "This is the game for Monty to come in, he knows what it's all about!"
I didn't say those things. They have been said on here time and time again. Big contradiction from the "knockers", they hate him but when they want a bit of passion, want him back in.

Nobody says these things. I defy you to find a single poster on here who is a regular critic of Montgomery and yet wants him to play at Hillsborough. That person does not exist.

I( am off the opinion that it is time for Monty to move on, just so we can free up his reported high salary, and I think in Doyle we have a similar player, but better. However to throw a curved ball in here in a choice between Monty and Quinn, I would honestly keep Monty.....

Exactly my point.

Said championship clubs were NOT apparently falling over to sign Porter and KMac.

Lets face it, however optimistic you are, the best (and most saleable) assets we had on our books at the beginning of last season were Evans, Williamson, Quinn, Lowton, Morgan, and Monty.

Harsh reality of the state of the clubs finances that we are likely to start this season with none of them.

Everyone else (bar Maguire who has come on well since last year) is worth the sum total of £1m the lot.

Danny has really got to pull several rabbits out of the hat as far as I can see if we are to be competitive this term.

I have to agree that Monty has to go (for financial reasons) but would have regarded him as a big asset (when match fit as he clearly wasn't for large chunks of last year) in this division to hold on to if finances would have allowed.

DronnieBlade you right that we can't ignore the financial side. Taking the financial aspect out, Montgomery is an adequate back-up for Doyle. However, we can't justify a top-end Championship wage on a bit-part League One player. The only way that finances would allow Montgomery to stay is if he was being paid relative to his current squad status.

How many more rabbits do you want to see? We've got Westlake, McMahon, McDonald, Cofie and Miller in so far and McFadzean, Whitehouse (until injury) and Ironside have all reportedly done well in pre-season. I'm happy with the squad as it stands, although if we could shift Montgomery it'd be good to see the wages reinvested in another striker.

CHAMPIONSHIP rivals Leeds, Burnley and Millwall are in a three-way fight for £500,000-rated Sheffield United skipper Nick Montgomery

I think Monty's agent has gone into overdrive to get this article in. I find it highly unlikely that there is a 3-way 'fight' (at best it's probably a 3-way 'expression of interest'), even more unlikely that there would be a £500,000 fee involved, and while he may on paper be 'the skipper', in reality he isn't any more. In fact, the last time he and Doyle were on the pitch at the same time, didn't Doyle retain the armband?

Maybe we should change what we put on here just incase clubs look at what the fans think of him and it puts them off.

:)

Ive thought for a while that the abuse directed to monty has been over the top but if by selling him he can keep quinn. Or buy blackman instead of getting him in on loan he needs to go

Hey if all you want to do is practice your put downs then go ahead, but I still see him as a good servant (and footballer) for the club who has made the best of his talents and has probably earned more money than I will in a lifetime. Some seem to be jealious of his earnings, but that is still to his credit. The descent was not his 'fault', just a manager who couldn't sad to say. But I look forward with hope to another year, UTB.

So off the back of that 'we're not interested' piece in the Millwall press previously, followed by Millwall still being mentioned as in that 'three-way battle' for Monty, it appears their manager has had to issue a 'no seriously, we're really not interested' message:

KENNY Jackett has confirmed Millwall will not be attempting to bring midfielder Nick Montgomery back from Sheffield United.

The 30-year-old saw a brief loan spell at The Den cut short late last season by injury but it was reported this week the Lions were battling it out with Championship rivals Leeds and Burnley to secure a permanent move for the player from Bramall Lane.

However, that suggestion was flatly rejected by Jackett.

“I don’t think so, no,” he told News Shopper.

“In midfield at the moment we have Therry Racon back from injury to add to the likes of Josh Wright, Liam Trotter and Jimmy Abdou so it isn’t necessarily an area we are looking to strengthen right now.”

I'm not jealous of his earnings. I simply resent the fact that it's, in part, my money (as a STH and Shareholder) sustaining a complete liability at a grotesque level and for far too long.

Why is he exempt from blame for our downfall? Wasn't he right at the heart of it? Not protecting the back four well enough? Not breaking up enough play?

Exactly.

Plus as soon as he went on loan there he got injured so why would they want him anyway? Especially now they have most of their midfield back.

Pinchy - I love Nick too, a different Nick (my son), but you do make me chuckle - so thanks. If I make it to the Lion next year I'll buy you a beer.

It's my pleasure Come from away! I must say Monty has given me many a laugh over the years, so I thank him for that at least. As for the beer, well I'm all for that but The Lion is a stronghold of a lager-loving bunch of anti-football fanatics known as the We ❤ Hoof Brigade. I fear I would not get out alive.

Some members of our "we want to make love to Monty" society drink real ale. In fact, the John Smith's smooth and Tetley creamflow pumps regularly run dry.

Surely any 'i love monty' beatnik has poor control over anything supped. You can spot `em by the congealed beer stains down their shirt fronts , that and the fact they get in the way of their own mates supping & generally fall over themselves a lot. Much like their God.

Very generous lot though. Will buy a pint and immediately give it to a stranger.

And when they're playing darts, the safest place is right in front of the bull.

A link to Huddersfield and Blackpool now mentioned in today's Stir. The former seems to hang on the notion that Grayson once 'considered making a bid' for him at Leeds. The latter is one team I can't ever see even looking at him as their style is completely unsuitable for adding Monty.

Blimey - James Shield is at it now. And is still saying Millwall are 'monitoring the situation'.

HUDDERSFIELD Town and Blackpool have entered the race for Nick Montgomery’s signature.

The Sheffield United midfielder appears destined to leave Bramall Lane as manager Danny Wilson reshapes his squad following last season’s League One play-off final defeat.

Millwall, where Montgomery spent a brief spell on loan earlier this year, Burnley and Leeds are all monitoring the 30-year-old’s situation.

But Town, who beat United in the Wembley showpiece, could twist the knife still further by luring him to the Galpharm Stadium instead, with Ian Holloway’s side also believed to be keen.

Huddersfield chief Simon Grayson is a long-term admirer of Montgomery, having considered submitting a bid while still in charge at Elland Road.

In other news, Millwall have released a press statement this morning that simply reads:

What part of 'we don't bloody want Nick Montgomery' is difficult for you lot to understand?

"But Town, who beat United in the Wembley showpiece, could twist the knife still further by luring him to the Galpharm Stadium instead"

How would that be twisting the knife in when we want shut? Anyone fancy driving him up there? (form an orderly queue please)
