Duffy should have had 20 minutes today, the Cranie sub (even tho he did great) should have been for Duffy. Basham offers nothing in midfield and this was a bad move when the game was there for the taking.

Think you're both right, nobody is ever 100% to blame in a team sport.

But both in starting Madine, and subbing Dowell for Craine, Wilder was showing a more direct, fearful side which is the antithesis of his teams.

Couldn't agree more. Said as soon as we made the change wilder doesn't want to loose this, but in doing so played into there hands. Think for a little while after they grew in confidence and very nearly got a goal. Even there fans could sense what was happening and fair enough we withstood for there little push then the last 10-15 mins was all ours and only one winner in it. Think if we had Duffy on even for the last 10-15 we win that game. If wilder really didn't want to loose it as he showed he didn't then I could have even understood them tactics till the last 10-15 but as soon as the tide went back in our favour Duffy should have been coming on for bash to offer that bit more in the last 10-15. Going right down to the wire now for the top 2 but we have left Leeds in the prime spot with them still to play at there place could quite easily just be a don't loose game for them. We will see still think there could be some twist and turns yet but we have really put pressure back on ourselves.

I do wonder if he regrets not putting Duffy on for the last 15 instead of Basham, having already brought on Cranie.

Although let's also not forget that Duffy played in the 0-0 home game too so he also struggles to turn dominance into goals.

However given what happened last time he played at Hillsborough it would have definitely had an impact on the atmosphere, geeing up the United fans and irking the Wednesday fans.

Once he'd done Cranie for Dowell, it made it difficult to make the change. Don't think Chris often likes to sub Bash given his energy.

Wilder was correct in playing Madine from the start as the tactics they played completely negated the need for McG and Duffy, we had to resort to the hoof due to their closing down of the short ball out from Hendo. Derby did this to us early in the season but actually had some decent players themselves and beat us comfortably, West Brom were the same in the home game.

That said we didn't play the right balls to Madine and he got involved in a battle with Beckenbauer and Baresi at the back for them instead of playing as he has been. Him and Sharp were far too desperate to score and it showed in their general play and first touch.

Just watched the first half back, and it really looks like Billy is just trying to hard, he was getting himself wound up and it's probably why he was off his usual game.
I think Stevens played very well, and Egan and Norwood are just awesome.
Even the pigs at work are gushing over Norwood this morning.

I've said this 100 times since last night. Duffy would have unlocked their defence. We needed him in for Dowell and Didzy in for Madine (who I feel actually played well). I think the game was too much for a kid like Dowell which was reflected in his poor display. No disrespect to him as he's a great player, but starting him was the wrong decision.

The reasoning that Wilder gave was that in putting Basham into the midfield he hoped to get Norwood on the ball more in good areas, and allow Fleck to play a bit further forward. That change therefore seemed to be with Basham to midfield being the focus, not motivated by a desire to get Cranie on particularly. Had Cranie started there you might have seen Basham subbed on for Dowell with exactly the same tactic planned.

It didn’t work, but Duffy on for Dowell (what I’d have preferred too) might not have done either.
