He's been our main if not only striker for quite a while

I'd dispute that. Hendo was the spearhead last season and Ched mostly played off him or more often wide or deep. Given that under Blackwell most balls were fired at Hendo's neck and 9 times out of 10 he gave a foul away, it wasn't the easiest for anyone to play in that position. Don't forget he was also out with injury a couple of times. Don't think I'm blindly making excuses, he has been crap on many occasions I've seen him and I still think he's got a hell of a lot to learn in his reading of the game.

A mate of mine is a City fan and I actually saw Ched a few times for their reserves and he looked a natural talent. His time at Norwich seemed to back that up (what was it 10 goals in 20) and he's had some decent games with some excellent goals for Wales. Maybe he doesn't have anything else to offer, maybe he'll be another promising kid who doesn't kick on, time will tell but you don't do what he did in the first few years of his career by being totally crap.

He played reserve football at City. It's all but meaningless. He's done OK for Wales U21's. He's scored 10 goals for Norwich. He's had a season and a third with us and been dreadfull in both play and goals. I hope you're right and I'm wroing but I've seen nothing, and I mean nothing, to give me an iota of hope.

Season and a third eh? since when did 10 games become a third of 46

As you quite rightly point out, they don't represent clear cut chances nor do they tell use who had the shots.

Of course you can also argue that with a better midfield, we might have had 298 attempts on goal not 98, and scored many more goals.

As I see it, the midfield is the problem and I've also said that all our strikers have their faults.

So you are just going to simply ignore the fact. 1 in 14 chances taken is abysmal. And if your theory about midfield is correct (i.e. that they play too deep, never get forward etc) then this only further backs up that the strikers are crap. Of those 98 shots, not many of them would have been Ertl, Britton or Monty. The vast majority would lie with Cresswell and Evans. Yet they've scored 2 goals a piece. Can't beleive you are still defending these mugs.

Now who's playing with numbers?...:D

let's forget all about last season eh?

:)

I was just using your system Alco, but mine was more accurate.

In a way Yes lets forget about last season because many on here (not necessarily yourself) have blamed everything on Blackwell, so now that he's gone we need to look at how players are performing under the new manager. Hence (i assume) Ollie's excuse for now throwing his full support behind Hendo being recalled (injured until at least Christmas). So I don't believe its then fair to switch this onto players to suit the argument.

But as you mentioned it. Ched last season had no luck, picked up niggling injuries and was never really utilised properly. But then he was a development player. He did show that when the pressure was off against Ipswich that he could score.

I still think he will come good and I hope that Speed and the fans that go to the lane allow him the time. He ha a decent touch, cracking shot, good on freekicks and can make space for himself. What he struggles with is that he's not blessed with lightening pace and he can't head a ball. His confidence needs a boost.

Well, a season and a QUARTER (:D) and we're flirting with relegation. Unlike you, I've seen nothing (by nothing it's not that he doesn't look good at anything, he looks bad at everything!) other than a hard shot. How much time do we allow him in the main striking role?

I'd prefer any of our other strikers or the lad out of the academy. I wouldn't give him any more time though through seething eyes (if he's picked) I'll wish him well if he plays.

Good on freekicks!!!???????

Presume you mean when he's not playing Swiss? Not seen a wall hit that unerringly since 1989.

It appears that Speed feels a bit sorry for Ched (must be a Welsh allegiance) and he is contemplating signing an even blunter striker in this Portugese kid that we have on trial.

A goal every 11 games in Scotland, Ched could probably even better that.

I think he played 50 minutes in the reserves before he was taken off, and i don't he made much of an impression so by my reckoning he will be packing his bags and looking for a different club. Plenty of players have come in on trail and gone after a half after being judged surplus to requirements, so what makes it such a big deal?

never said it was. But 5 goals in 10 games is a big deal.

Can i just step back a bit from this discussion.

I've just worked out who you remind me of.

Whenever i see that the last post is by Ollessendro, i get the same feeling of curiousity that i do when i see that Martin Samuel has written an article that is in the paper, and want to read it as it going to be a load of complete bollocks, and curiousity of how one individual can make a complete dick out of himself time and time again using nothing more than the power of the written word.

Just who is the bluntest of them all. "Why it could be Evans, Cresswell or Bogdanovic .... take your pick"

We've had some pretty blunt strikers at the Lane since I've been watching (Cadimaterie, David White in his latter stages, Phil Starbuck, Jostein Flo and Craig Beattie are a few that spring to mind) but the current crop seem to be competiting for the most blunt striker in England award.

We've got the inneffective Cresswell. Legs gone, disappears for long spells and likes lying down. He wins little in the air, isn't that strong and his eye for goal is even out. If he got goals for running around then he's be David Villa, but infortunately it's more like having ricky Villa up top.

Evans: what can I say. The guy couldn't hit a barn door. His touch is awful, he rarely wins and header and never puts a shift in. You wouldn't mind if he had an eye for goal. Sure he has a hard shot .... it's a shame he can't direct them. The guy is so low on confidence that he really looks like he wouldn't score in a brothel.

There seems a reason why Speed showed faith in Evans and left Bogdanovic on the bench for so long. We have our very own six foot powder puf. Just when we thought that Evans and Cresswell couldn't add less to the team, in steps Malta's finest. Can't hold the ball up, doesn't win headers and heads like a 12 year old girl.

Speed has already said that we won't be bringing anyone in, so we are stuck with the 3 bluntest strikers in the league. Unfortunately training is not the answer, as no amount of shooting practice will get this rabble finding the back of the net. I thought we had life tough when Andy Gray was leading the line, but that seems like wonderland. Evans, Cresswell and Boggy make Andy Scott, Carl Veart and Gareth Taylor look like Didider Drogba figures!?

Dear oh dear, it's a sorry state when we are all eagerly awaiting the return of Henderson. Big Darius has been very disappointing in a Blades shirt, but geez he makes ten of those wet lettuces. Hendo has taken a lot of stick of Blades, but I think most would have him ranked as higher than the other 3. Hurry up back Darius.

**I must say that with all this doom and gloom at the moment its making my job, shining sunshine onto the forum, very difficult. There's so much negativity around that it's making the likes of Lenners and myself's tasks very tricky!!?**

I can completly agree with you that the finishing this season has been shocking, and ched has been the biggest waste of money ive seen a BDTBL ( apart from carney ), however i cant help but agree with swiss aswell and his first comment about the crap service.

I hate 4-5-1 formation for a start, but when you try playing it with no F****** pace then what is the point!!, we have wardy i mean for god sake the lads a striker not a winger, id liek to see him back upfront again, no matter what people say or how well he has been playing on the wing, its no match to his pace and flair upfront.

Yeates never seems to get a sniff which annoys me and christ im still pissed of cotts has gone. Problem is we dont have ANY decent pacey and exciting wingers. If we had them i can promise you even ched would score (maybe) but cressy, ward, boggy, and hendo definatly would put more away. I personally just think its a serious lack of pace and flair from the midfield that we lack

oh contraire Browny. For someone who was critical of me 'not acting in the spirit of the forum', even after you started all the sunshine band stuff, throwing out personal abuse is just a tad hypocritical.
