can anyone who was at the Lane explain what was happening with the minutes silence. Was it well observed or was there crowd noise?

Watching on sky there was crowd noise which suddenly stopped and went quiet for about 10 seconds and then it was over. Couldn’t work it out as none of the crowd on the screen looked to be moving.

Cheers

Sky have tweeted apologising for the noise - which was caused by their technical error. Pathetic really - as many watching will have wrongly thought the crowd were creating the noise.

We over complicated it again like last season, unlike other clubs who have the referee blow his whistle and then about thirty second in the bugler plays the last post and the silence ends with the last post ending

Instead we start with the last post and when it ends try to start the minutes silence, but unless you were there half an hour before kick off to hear GS explain all this people automatically assume it's over when the last posts finishes and start cheering.

There was some noise coming from blades entering the South Stand whilst the bugler was playing. Not their fault, they wouldn’t have known probably

I watched on BeIN sports and the commentator was obviously not at the lane as he said it was “disgracefully observed”. Cunt

It was observed but after the last post some fans thought it was over but the crowd shushed them.

This happened last time I seem to remember

Think it did at the Hull game last year, was supposed to be a minute's silence then everyone started clapping about 20 seconds in, I was baffled. Might help if someone explained over the PA beforehand what the plan was?

Sky dubbed the crowd noise over the Last Post.

So, they had the crowd noise on standby and some bellend pressed the soundfile icon, and kinda didn't notice it was playing over the main mix?

Well done Murdoch's men and women. You fuckers are a disgrace.

GS did but half an hour before kick off.

The crowd did create the noise. After the bugler stopped playing the crowd incorrectly thought the minute was over and started clapping and shouting, as soon as the error was realised it went quiet again.

What happened to the ref blowing his whistle for the minutes silence, why complicate things have the silence then play the last post.

The noise on Sky was throughout the bugling. As I said, Sky have tweeted apologising for their technical error. Our fans did make some noise afterwards as you say but that was barely heard on Sky.

I assumed that what the OP was describing was the crowd making the noise, I didn’t know about Sky’s technical problems

The silence was observed with respect by both sets of supporters. The only noise came from fans who hadn't entered the actual stand seating areas and didn't realise what was happening.

Agree with Harrys Game, it was overcomplicated and that led to some slight confusion but overall both sets of fans behaved well during the tribute.

Pity that some couldn't manage to behave themselves before and after the match, I saw a fair few fights and verbal abuse between fellow Blades before and after the game. Some of which was brought about by the ridiculous policing of the area around the ground forcing supporters to walk around in circles trying to reach their cars which were parked in the opposite direction to which they were being shepherded by the cops.

Yep. Saw their tweeted apology and wAtched it back on Sky. Weird noise throughout the bugling. They really spoilt the moment.

I thought GS said the ref's whistle would start and end the minute silence at first and then later changed it to the last post and reveille just as the teams came out. There was some noise at the back of the Kop immediately after the last post but it shut down very quickly when they realised the ceremony wasn't over.I'm positive no disrespect was intended,

Correct, far too complicated for a lot of people particularly as this was the derby and people are revved up wanting to make some noise. Unless you heard all the verbal instructions over the tannoy you wouldn’t have a clue as to what they were doing.
It was on the whole very well observed though.

It was shit. There were loads of United fans that started applauding & singing after the bugler played The Last Post.

Bugler plays, we have a minutes silence, then the bugler plays again. What's so difficult to understand about that?

Nothing if you were listening to what was announced on the tannoy.

I found it really difficult to hear what Gary Sinclair was saying tonight. I'm sure the film about WWI that was shown was very moving but I couldn't make out what was being said on the commentary at all.

What happened was a guy played the bugle for a few minutes. The crowd was silent throughout and then the roar came as it was deemed as done. Once everyone realised it died down again, no issues.

Having watch watched game on tv & then seen fan footage from inside the ground Someone is getting sacked. They played crowd noise that literally drowned out the last post.

Complete an utter fuck up by Sky. The period of time while the Last Post was being played was impeccably observed. However Sky have done Sheffield an incredible disservice by giving the impression that such disrespect was shown. Why am I surprised though?

I found them to be quite
straightforward instructions to be honest. But fair enough to those who didn’t understand, everyone did go quiet after a few seconds.
