Is 13 points the biggest gap over 3rd that we've ever had in this division? I can't remember a bigger one, I had a look back at 05/06 and the furthest we were ahead was 12 in November after the amazing start.
Tickhill Blade asked the above question in my Graph thread about whether 13 points above 3rd was our largest ever in the Championship, and so I have had a quick look.

As far as I can see Tickhill Blade is quite right. Below is our lead of 12 points on November 8th 2005 and I can't find anything bigger than that for us in the Championship.

Of course, 2005/06 was Warnock's season when we got our record 90 points in the Championship. It was also when Reading got the overall record 106 points, which some people are suggesting that Burnley might challenge this year.

Our biggest ever gap to 3rd in any Division was, of course, at the end of Wilder's Season of the Century in 2016/17. 18 points above 3rd - and a magnificent 14 points above 2nd.

But let's not get too complacent - one poor Club once got 90 points - and still only finished 3rd!!!

After the Boro game today I think that 88 points are almost certainly enough for us to get 2nd place. Anyway, I want to go to Wembley again for a cup semi - so my challenge for the Blades is to get there this year, having already secured mathematically-certain promotion - something like a 10-point lead with 3 games left. Then we'll drink the Green Man dry!!

I would quite like our last 18 games to be the same results as the 18 in your first illustration !!

Agree, the more confident of going up, the more I'd like us to really try and go deep in the cup. Credibility etc.

None of the chasing pack is sufficiently strong and consistent to deliver a really high points average (over 2.5) for the rest of the season, so with our current gap a final 88 points will be enough to get us over the line.

Watford offered the biggest threat and maybe still do, but the biggest threat now is ourselves!
When you look at their fixtures and injury list at the moment for me it's Norwich, wba and Middlesbrough to keep a closer eye on and only one of them won this weekend.

We only realistically need to get 4-5 more points than the 18 league games for which Jokanovic was in charge.

And we were shit. Think we were 14th-16th when we sacked him.
