Millwall fans opinion on both Sheffield clubs

I took it from the Millwall vitalfootball forum.
Assumed it was post from this week but can now see t’s an older thread that’s been resurrected.

Those quotes from the Millwall fan were originally posted on their forum Dec17.

Obviously it’s not THAT important really
But still think it’s interesting how neutral fans perceive the Sheffield clubs.
I’ve had similar feed back from fans of other clubs.

Also a significant point is that the Millwall fan was chatting to other Millwall fans on their forum.
He wasn’t posting on a Blades or Owls forum trying to cosey up to or wind up opposite fans.

This was the guy who did a very amusing A-Z parody of us in....

https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/pre-match-view-from-millwall.60236/

The quote you've used was on the same Millwall thread where he admitted to having a soft spot for the Blades.

In the interest of balance, how could a working class person possibly afford to support Wednesday at their prices? Don’t get me wrong, they’d struggle at Blades (or any championship team) but most genuinely ‘working class’ people would really struggle to justify £40 to watch a game of football.

Good read, but "middle class types from the suburbs"? Last time I was in a suburb like theirs there were apes throwing their own shit around and their keeper was on his way due to it being feeding time.

I agree. I've yet to meet a middle class Pig fan, maybe lower class or sub-human class but certainly not middle.

I think this guy was confusing class with delusions of grandeur.

I'd say that Wednesdayites are more the sort who aspire to be nouveau riche rather than middle class.

The type of cunts who think they've "made it" because they have a timeshare in Portugal, and the only reason they have that is because they were thick enough to get roped into one of those scam presentations the one time they went abroad.

The type of cunts who invite everyone over to look at their new conservatory whilst trying desperately to hide their crippling personal debt whilst being silently resented by their fat wives in zirconia earrings.

Funnily enough Sheffield Wednesday FC operate in very much the same way.

Millwall, one of the smallest spenders in the league finishing 27 points behind the Blades last season and now in the playoffs 3 points ahead of us.....o_O

Don't get me wrong, their form is exceptional (unbeaten in 16) but they've been extremely fortunate with the run of fixtures. Norwich (currently 13th) beat them on New Year's Day they've played every side in the bottom half bar QPR (15th) and only Cardiff (1-1), Derby (0-0) from the top 6. On the flip side, their record against the current top 6 is pretty good.

The reason most neutrals prefer the pigs to us is because the pigs don't have any of their own rivals.

They are just a bunch of goonies who team up with the likes of West Ham etc; because they hate us. Do they actually hate a team which stems from nothing to do with us. I can only think of Leeds.

Brighton and Huddersfield in recent years.

Decent post from the Millwall fan but I can never like Millwall. Some of their behavior and chants over the years have been disgusting and they pride themselves on the reputation of the Den as a p;lace where as an away fan you know you'e in for trouble.

I get the underdog mentality and I like that about Millwall and they make a decent noise over the years but still can't like them. Of all the London clubs I probably like AFC Wimbledon the most and of the bigger ones probably West Ham are the best noise wise but obviously there is little time for them.

As for Wednesday fans, I wouldn't say they are middle class as their fan base comes largely from S5 and S6 which includes the likes of Shiregreen, Parsons Cross and Winn Gardens! However they certainly look down on other clubs locally and see themselves as the Premier Club in Sheffield even though they've not finished above us in the same league since the 90's. On their forum they've currently got a thread saying whose the biggest club in Yorkshire and most of them think Wednesday are the biggest in Yorkshire over Leeds, even though Leeds have won the league championship as recently as 1992, and won it several times in the 70's and have being the highest average attendance most seasons over the years locally - certainly since the 70's. Hate bigging up Leeds but they're all facts. We also will get a higher attendance record this season which has happened on multiple seasons in the 2000's. I think from memory its about 50/0 in the 200's but obviously being in League One for the last 6 seasons is a major reason for why its 50/50 and not more in our favour.

I spoke to a Boro fan earlier in the season and was explaining how arrogant Wednesday fans are and he seemed surprised and I don't think fans of other clubs realise this. Locally whenever I speak to fans of Rotherham and Barnsley they always say Wednesday are the most deluded and arrogant out of the Yorkshire clubs.

Well, apart from when Ched was sent down and they pipped us to second place to get out of League one.......

Sorry meant to say in the Championship and as you said, that was because Ched went down in the Third division season.

Spot on!!!!!!!

The challenge faced by our neighbours is they suffer from a bad case of illusory superiority. They don't have the wit to recognise that they are, in fact, stupid. This lack of self awareness means they have no means of evaluating their own abilities and success and as a consequence they believe their own hype. This is the exact reason why mindless retards choose to follow Wednesday as the club itself perpetuates the same drivel until it believes its own hype...

The type of cunts who, at school, claimed their Dad was in the SAS but turns out to be a fat dole thief who can't work due to an array of fake disabilities

The type of cunts who promise to join your five a side team (because they had 'trials' - probably for Wednesday) but then develop a catalogue of unfortunate injuries when the time comes to play

The type of cunts who buy a 'Ramones' T - Shirt to look cool but are unable to name any of their songs....

That type of cunt.

I'd like this twenty times if I could, even just for the first paragraph alone.

In view of the mutual admiration between the two clubs, I think it would be a good idea to have unsegregated seating on Saturday and to let us mingle....

P.S. at a Blades v Millwall game in the 60s it was the first (and only) time I'd seen a hatchet produced at at football match.
Funnily enough the only time I’ve seen a hatchet produced was from a Blades car overtaking the coach on the way to Newcastle away. It passed us with the blades scarves etc in the rear window and somebody’s arm sticking out the rear window waving a hatchet! Late 70’s I think.

Sticks in my mind for a few reasons that day.

1 - the unbelievable amount of Sunderland coaches going in the opposite direction.

2 - the blade with the hatchet.

3 - me and my mate being threatened by a big Geordie that he’d chuck us over from the upper tier when we cheered the blades walking out. Scared the shit out of me.

Oh and

4 - the Newcastle program where it praises the blades as a traditional old big club much like themselves who had never been relegated below the top two divisions.

Sadly Harry Haslam put paid to that.

If we had got that form since the turn of the year we would already be playing Man U.

And they don't appear to be playing particularly well, either. One of my best mates is Millwall and we obviously speak a lot about football. He reckons they just keep finding ways to grind out results. He goes to most matches and I value his opinion on football, so I believe him.

He's travelling up tomorrow. He loves Sheffield, never needed much of an excuse for a night out there - we used to go to the snooker a lot, also used to travel up for music (we shared a love of the Long Blondes before they disbanded). He is of the same opinion as the guy mentioned in the OP - much prefers us to them for the aforementioned reasons. In fact thinking about it, there was one season he watched the Blades vs Stevenage with me, both home AND away!

They are the biggest bores about. Shit banter, arrogance, terrible sense of humour, delusional.

Seems one of their fans lived in Sheffield and visited both Bramall Lane and Hillsboro.
Based on his experience here’s what he thought of the Sheffield clubs (taken from their forum).

I lived in Sheffield and it was done out of warm feelings to the place & team.

As said before,I like the Blades, went to a few games when I lived there, and they were a lot like us - mostly working class, passed the club down through the generations, rain or shine, saw the humour in being shit and didn't take it all that seriously, but passionately got behind their team and could create a very partisan atmosphere.

In contrast to Wednesday - who I found to be supported by more middle-class types from the suburbs, who really did think their shit didn't stink and believed the likes of Millwall & Sheffield United were below them, despite being bang average for the last 50 years.
I call them the Crystal Palace of the north!
Middle class? Most of them are off of cross :D:D
Interesting reading. I grew up in South East London supporting Millwall with season ticket most seasons for 30 odd years, been in Sheffield with family season tickets at BDTBL for last 10 years. I have no conflict for tomorrow's game - Blade thru and thru now - but of course have fond memories of Cold Blow Lane (really!!) and mates up from the smoke in the away end will be looking forward to some good banter tomorrow afternoon which ever way it goes. Irrespective of how you classify people - Millwall is in the heart of Docklands, once the busiest shipping port in the world, but an industry destroyed during the 50's and 60's - so many parallels with the decline of heavy industry here in the 70s and 80s and lots of similarities between the communities and supporters. It's all set to be a cracking game tomorrow. COYRAWW!!!
