Complete lack of thread about the game at the weekend. How did Miller do? Is it worth continuing with him at right mid or is he best as a striker?

I missed the first few minutes, but Miller was more on the left in a starting formation which the official site describes as 4-3-3, but which was either very fluent or soon ditched in favour of a 4-4-2.

Very little worked for us first half and Miller wasn't involved a lot. I don't think he'll be a long term answer in a wide role, and it seems difficult for him to get in front of Blackman up front. Personally I would have tried to rotate the strikers a bit more, maybe given Blackman a rest and told Miller he'd start up front vs Rovers, but most likely be back on the bench vs Swindon on tuesday. When Williams came on, Miller did go up front, but we seemed content with the result at that stage, so didn't go forward as much.

Anyway, it was better for Miller to be involved in a wide role than not at all and he showed that he's nippy and has a decent touch a couple of times. He made one good run into the box, running onto a flick from Porter, but was judged to have used his hand before smashing the cross bar. The tv cameras didn't show clearly that he used his hand. He does look hungry and eager to get shots in.

Second half was a better, more determined team performance where we went more direct, upped the tempo and decided to dictate the pace of the game. Bristol Rovers had nothing after the break.

We do come across a bit more cynical at the moment. Hill and Flynn both seemed to be pretending to be injured after very slight touches; Blackman took a dive in an attempt to win a penalty and in frustration McDonald hacked down one of their players without chance to get the ball. Doyle also need to be careful, sooner or later a referee is going to spot him deliberately trying to stamp oppostion players' heels.

I don't like this side of Doyle's game. We should be able to control the midfield without resorting to sly tactics.

That said, I've got another 3 years to get used to it.

Same thing happened in the Pompey game, with Scott Allan in the first half. Fairly sure that contributed to him being crunched by Harley a few minutes after that.
