Do we need another winger/ wide forward ? Brooks, Rak-Sakyi, Campbell....plus the option of pushing Burrows forward and Hamer/ O'Hare taking up one the spaces in the current set up.

Trusty has a higher market value so surely wouldn’t straight swap. We’d probably shake hands on £3M plus Johnstone for Trusty
No chance. Trusty would have to be around the £5 million mark which we paid so your valuing Johnston at £2 million? He just scored 7 in 20 for West Brom from left wing, no way are we getting him for 2 million.

He's under contract till 2026. I'd guess they'll value him around £4/5m? We drive a hard bargain though.

And Wilder's got no record of success with a team of that sort of composition

When have we ever carried multiple luxury players who'll contribute little defensively? In Wilder's best teams even all the attacking players worked hard and made us a solid unit
and hes only had minor success at a lower level with northampton with the 4231 hes currently adopting

Celtic and Rangers are different gravy to the rest of the league though. He's played 60 times for Celtic so it's not like he's never played for them.

As a realistic signing I doubt there's many better we could get in for his position. Fits well in the new formation.
Those 60 appearances are spread over 7 seasons- 2 of which were severely disrupted by significant injury
Subsequent 5 seasons he got selected around a dozen times each.
Afore spell at WBA had a (loan) spell in Portugal where he played regularly (>30 games / 1 goal)
Smeltic supporters of my acquaintance state
“He's not part of the plans he's had more chances than anyone l can remember did well at West Brom last season, seemingly Burnley have got him”

Appears to have ‘proved’ himself at our (current) level although whether he (along with others ?!?) can make the step up if (when?) promoted is another matter
As you say, appears a reasonable ‘punt’ - If we pay a reasonable (<£1m?) & he contributes to promotion would be a decent buy & even if not up to scratch for PL we could / would likely be able to recoup outlay
Certainly a better option that the lad @ Posh

Messi: shite.
This debate keeps returning.

Someone posts reservations about us signing a short player.

Other posters reply that short players can actually be very good, often mentioning examples.

But the argument isn't that short players can't be excellent. It is that sometimes too many small players can make the team struggle against the bigger sides, especially at set pieces. It could also become an weakness in terms of being a threat from attacking set pieces, and high crosses.

So, I think it's a better counter argument to mention teams who despite a lack of height, have done well. For example Spain's squad had the shortest median height in the Euros and won it. Their final starting line up only had two players under 180 cm though.

In Souttar and Moore, we have two of the tallest players in the division and I expect us to be ok, but we have lost headers for three of our last four conceded goals. An injury to Moore and Souza being sold could make us vulnerable.

Surely we’d want to pay and receive money for PSR purposes wouldn’t we? In effect it might be a swap but they’ll show money moving so we can spread the cost over the length of the contract

Not sure we have too many attackers?

RAM - Brooks/Rak-Sakyi
CAM - O'Hare
LAM - Hamer/Johnston(?)

Then we have Campbell and Brewster who can cover the above positions, but will also be covering as ST. Plus the young lads Marsh and Hampson, one of whom could be loaned out.

That seems like good depth for a long season, but if you combine this with available STs, you could even say we are a bit short in attack.
But with Hamer/OHare/Sakyi plus whoever else we may sign, we have 3 high calibre attacking mids who must be accommodated, along with a striker. That makes us quite top heavy, especially as none of them offer much defensively. I don't think this gives Wilder the best chance of making it work

Celtic don’t want him, can’t believe people are entertaining a straight swap. I think he’s probably worth 2/3M and Trusty about what we paid for him tbh after a seasons experience in the prem. He’d take the piss in the SPL
Daily Record suggesting they would see Celtic RECEIVING a seven figure sum.

They’re on the wacky backy aren’t they?

Also quotes Trusty as having cost 5m.

How is Johnston worth 6m at least?

If we were sending Trusty and cash I’d be wanting Callum McGregor coming in, not Mikey Johnston.

Not if Trusty’s not part of the deal. Is the article suggesting a purchase, not a swap?

If he does come get ready for a very critical view from Celtic fans! I'm still keen.
