Get Norwood gone, Lundstram will be off anyway. Hopefully Berge will stay and try and build the team around him. We need 2/3 younger, quicker, better midfielders that can actually create good chances and take on players. To have the midfield we have now in the premier league is pathetic and shows how far away we really are.

With Chris Wilder not willing to alter our style of play, unfortunately Sander is at the wrong club.
 
Would be nice if Berge stuck around but he will probably have a few offers that seem better than sticking with a shellshocked United side in the Championship.
 
Fleck has been abandoned a lot today receiving the ball with no one but spurs players within 20 yards of him providing no movement and no options. Quality delivery for the goal and has driven with the ball at his feet in midfield several times. Norwood needs replacing ASAP.
 
We have a big rebuild on our hands and the parachute money going on paying the assets loan off... we had to stay up this year... If we don’t bounce straight back I am worried this is the late 2000s repeating again.
 
Not only do we need a more creative midfield, we need them to hold on to the ball better and help the defence when the opposition come forward.
 
There's nothing in front of them, that's as big of an issue.
 
Keep fleck with Osborn as cover. Keep Berge unless he demands to move and build the midfield around him play to his strengths. Move Norwood on he seems mentally and physically shot. Take multiple shots at the position sign players who are a good age with good upside but not for astronomical fees we have a good recruitment record in this area. The more swings of the bat you take the more you increase your chances of hitting.
 
We missed our opportunity to sign some creativity in the summer, wasting 40m on Ramsdale and Brewster instead. Those sorts of players (Cantwell, Beundia,Eze et al) have either moved or are now unobtainable.

As a result we will end up with the same midfield in the championship excluding Lunny. In theory Berge should be a class above and hopefully Fleck can rediscover his form a division lower. Norwood needs moving out, altho I dont see anyone signing him, and we need to find a lower league box to box midfielder who can run all day.

He may well not but that was sort of my semi realistic ideal scenario take on it. If he does leave we need to stay strong in negotiations and get a decent fee it can be done.
 
Our midfield is tragic.

Norwood's brain has fell out his arse, most of the time Fleck plays like he's 30 stone and just wants to not have a heart attack, Lundstram doesn't want to be here and it does show, and Sander is quality but people around him will never get the best out of him, and when he gets knackered he is capable of making a huge error that can cost a goal.

I watched fleck closely today and he was really hurt by a lack of movement and help around him so many times he received the ball looked up and waved his hands in frustration at a lack of support.

Watch norwood, lundstrum and fleck when norwood loses the ball under no pressure whatsoever for their second goal. Not one of them even tries to get back in. Norwoods days are numbered, no point playing him in the championship if you have desires to go up and stay up
 
We need some creativity and technical ability desperately. Player like beundia and even swift are head and shoulders above this lot.

Right now I’d take someone who does the simple things well tackles, gets around the pitch, takes responsibility for the ball when he has it and is always looking to make themselves available.

Nail on the head. After the season we had, the summer was a real opportunity to add some real quality to that midfield, Benrahma,Eze,Buendia were all achievable had we not blown all our money on Ramsdale and Brewster, But we had the best window ever.
 
get baldock back in with bogle in front of him bogle was the only plus for me today but spurs should have had 7 today roll on next august when we can start competing again on a level playing field
 
Berge is the only player in our squad I'd be happy see start in midfield next season.

Fleck or Osborn as backup
Lunny goes
Norwood should be shown the door.

Think we need a Besic / destroyer style player alongside Berge, then a ball carrying creative type playing ahead of them. If Forest dont take up the option pn Freeman think we could see a lot of him next year

Assuming Berge goes, then we need a a complete rebuild - at least in first 11.

So how did we achieve a decent season last year?
 

We also need an athletic powerful hard tackling CDM. If you are going to compete its necessary. Like Ndidi, Fabinho, Fernandinho etc etc. Wilder has never played one other than Bash on occasion who isn't really it. CWAK needs to have a long hard think about midfield. Fleck and Osborn are too small really for the PL
