Mankind vs The Undertaker, Hell in a Cell, June, 1998. Still the best wrestling I’ve ever seen.

Not into wrestling myself grew out of that by age 10 or so but he’s a legend of the WWF as it was known then

Watched a good documentary about Andre the Giant a while ago. His size was his strength, but also his toll. Ended up barely able to stand when he was wrestling.

Probably as a physiological result of his gigantism. He was well over 7' I believe and showed lots of the physical signs of gigantism, eventually leading to problems standing, sitting and movement in general.

That was alluded to in the documentary. He was always tall, but the Gigantism really kicked in when he reached his teens. During his wrestling career he drank too, and when I say drank it was to a volume that made Bill Werbeniuk look like a member of the Temperance Society.

Ha! Numbnuts here never associated the username with wrestling.

Named after my MMA training. I used to go out sometimes on a Sunday morning, entering full contact Tae Kwon Do tournaments, and never lost, due to the power I could generate, but realised that I was only going to get slower as I got older, so I switched to MMA, in the early days of it. I trained originally with a club called London Shootfighters ("shoot" being an old English/Wigan name for wrestling, so a really good wrestler, was known as a "Shooter"), then the first club opened in Sheffield at the old 393 boys club on Langsett Road.

We did Boxing, Thai Boxing, Free Style Wrestling, Greco Roman Wrestling, Submission Wrestling, some Ju-Jitsu, all combined. The grappling/wrestling/submission side was really interesting, a lost art almost.

I also trained on Saturday mornings up in Dewsbury, the bloke who ran it ended up making a living as an MMA referee. He had learned some old Wigan catch-as-catch-can from a bloke who ended up in Rotherham called Dave Turton.

The Wigan stuff was painful, every move was made to cause maximum pain and discomfort to your opponent. I ended up teaching my kids how to finish a fight quickly (when they started going in town drinking), good stuff to know, and hopefully you never have to use it.

My missus was known for the kick boxing, especially around the London area, and can still pack a punch and kick arse at 54. Her brother was British and European Champion at one time and trained loads of well known fighters, including Colin Prince.
