Outgoing? Michael Cooper

Less than two weeks until the season starts. Behind Cooper we’re busy trying to work out the least worst option for our number two. Unless they want to offer us massive money, they can foxtrot oscar.
Can’t see him going there to sit on their bench.

We need to move for Gunn soon if he is off.

Getting Gunn for free and cashing in on Cooper would create a big delta.

Hope not. Cooper and Trafford were the better keepers in the division by far. But you have to have a plan.

Cooper to Gunn would be an absolutely horrific downgrade. Gunn is WANK

£20m has to be the absolute minimum we get. Be a huge blow but at least it'd be a massive profit on him and chance to reinvest. Him and Burrows were the two I was most worried about losing outside of Gus/Anel/Souza.

If we get offered big money we should consider it. Remember we got promoted with Wes in goal. But Cooper is still the last one I want to lose for now

Different times though. All they had to do in those days was hoof it to around the halfway line and they were rarely asked to receive a ball under pressure from the opposition. Distribution wasn’t a big thing for keepers until around 10 years ago.
I’d say it’s the position that has changed the most over the years.

In many ways the keeper is now an extra defender, and is expected to be able to accurately ping a pass

Another graduate (1st class ) from the Iniversity of Derby?
Martin Samuel must be shitting himself what with the quality of ‘competition’ the former Derby Municipal Technical College is now churning out?!?
Martin Samuel shits himself because the fat bastard can’t get up the stairs to the bog in time.

And when that happens, he blames Sheffield United…

Apart from potentially pissing off Michael Cooper?

He’s a grown man, professional footballer and under a long lucrative contract.

If the club do not want to sell him they can sit him down and say ‘look Coops it’s our final season of parachute payments, we want to go up this season so we’re slapping a big price tag on your head and want to build the team around you OK?’

The club are allowed to talk to its players

Then if he says no fuck off I want to leave we’ll have to consider selling him.

But I don’t see how asking for a big fee pisses cooper off in the first instance unless you want to look for every negative angle possible about all things United.

It’s only a week since Selles said he wasn’t going anywhere.

Michael Cooper is not worth £25m plus
And Isak isnt worth 130m and Wissa isn't worth 60m and so on

If the Yanks want to turn the fan base against them then selling our best assets and bringing in inferior loans is the right way to go about it. They bought us to go up to the PL and we aren't doing that by selling the likes of Cooper and Hamer. They've banked 13m from Souza and cleared a fortune off the wage bill so they need to think very carefully about their next moves.

Good points well made imo

He’s very good

But is he THAT good ? Really 🤔
Hes good but hes not irreplaceable
Hes another who's not quite worth what we would want to.replace him

Next season if we are still in championship we will probably have to mascot other clubs valuations
If you want to extract maximum value for him play him behind a solid defence and not jack and anel

It depends what Cooper wants, which we don't know. It's not a stretch to assume he has ambitions to play at the highest level. Most footballers do. If a club seriously come in for a footballer with a decent bid and we demand an amount no one would ever pay, that is when a footballer becomes unsettled.

Whoever manages those relationships at the club should be aware of what each player wants. Those conversations are part of good management.

Leeds have just paid under £15m for a new number 1 keeper, I cannot see us being able to justify selling cooper for more than that as a number 2. Therefore he stays

Obviously. But do you think Brentford were worried about Mbeumos feelings as a first priority when setting a £70m asking price? Absolutely not. They saw Man U come along and thought this lot have more money than us let’s get as much as we can.

Every footballer has ambitions to play at the top and the self belief to achieve it. People like Cooper have already beaten the odds and millions by making it this far. So obviously he wants to make the most money possible and reach the top. We all understand that.

The priority for us should be club first. We should be aiming to make as much money possible from every sale we have to make.

He’s worth somewhere between what someone’s willing to pay and what we value him at and there’s nothing at all wrong with starting high.

We’ll be cutting our cloth next year if we don’t go up to live within our means but this season promotion would be worth far more than any cut price sale.

If we just sell players at the first offer simply because they might get hurt feelings we may as well chuck the towel in now and offer them Peck and Hamer at the same time. Every time there’s a player linked with a sale there seems to be a queue of blades saying we better sell him for half of that. We’ll never amount to anything if that’s consistently the attitude.

The club will have already spoken to Cooper and know his stance.

We need to keep him for this season & he knows the club are aiming for promotion again. Last season there were 3 clubs who had a realistic chance of automatic promotion. Leeds dropped points because of Meslier but still got autos because of the quality & familarity of the rest of their squad.

Seems like more clubs will have a realistic chance of autos this season & even getting into the play offs will be tougher. Everyone saw the contrast in confidence our defence had with Cooper behind them. We have a new, attack minded, system & pre-season games have highlighted defensive vulnerabilities without a decent number 6. Even when the squad is completed & fully up to speed we will have pressure on our goal so Cooper is essential.
