Mentally weak

The fitness or should I say lack of fitness is the one for me that is unforgivable..we knew that we were gonna be playing sides technically better than us & would be out of possession for long periods of games if anything you’d expected us compensating this on this fitness side ? But we’re nowhere near ! What in fucks name did they do in pre-season ? And I think that’s reason we concede too many late goals
Mentally we are very fragile & that’s built up from the several hammerings we’ve had this season , theirs a distinct lack of leaders out there ( albeit Robbo ) and it shows as soon as we concede they all look at the floor & and walk back for the centre.
This coming pre season is going to be the biggest in years & we really do need to shift some of the deadwood and recruit to address our shortfalls .. is Wilder the man to do this .. i don’t know ? Get this wrong & god help us ⚔️
We needed legs in midfield. Doyle with a couple of runners either side. But we opted for Souza. A signing that was based on us expecting to have none of the ball. A damage limitation player as our big spend. Who does nothing to limit damage. Pitiful. So much that has gone wrong revolves around this signing, and it's no surprise at all because at the time it was difficult to see just what the hell we were planning. Lundstram and Fleck as wide CMs were huge factors last time in making us competitive but this time in all our wisdom we decided to not even give ourselves that option

I just hope that Wilder can summon the spirit of the 1975/1976 season.

Imagine the Wokey Lefties of today trying to mental strength their way through these glory years?

Is it not a bigger concern that months into the season, neither manage has managed to improve morale?

Shouldn’t we be wanting rid of those who can’t hack it rather than (some) constantly deriding the fact that 16 are out of contract. Surely it’s no surprise that both the players who aren’t good enough or are mentally weak need to be out?
Yup

Spot on

If you're not strong enough as a team to hold the ball for more than 10 seconds without making a silly mistake - your're not good enough for this division - period.

I find it ridiculous that we have to resort to hoofball from the back. These players should be good enough to keep possession - and then they would not feel so knackered as they would not be chasing the ball for so long.

Its my one big problem with Wilder - he lets it happen.
It's not just in the Premier League, it's in the Championship as well.
Take both Wilder and Hecky's promotion teams and see how many of those 96 games we had the most possession in.

Agree - this is my main problem with Wilder - his tactics are regressive. A bit like Moyes at West Ham which is another depressing team to watch.

Mental weakness has been seen in pretty much all but 3 games this season.

Giving 2 goals away to Spurs (who were smashing it at that point) in stoppage time set the ball rolling into the 8-0 the week after and I don't think they've really recovered from it. Might have only been a couple of weeks before that were Chris Wood equalised late on at Forest. Had we held on for these results, it could have been a lot different with some early momentum behind us. Winning at Spurs would have been a massive boost to a clearly weak bunch aside from a couple.

I don't think we've had any leadership in the team for a long time, not since Billy Sharp was a regular starter. Nobody with a manager's mentality out on the park, nobody that the other players would be fearful of letting down in the same way as we had Chris Morgan, Man United had Keane, Arsenal with Vieira, Chelsea with Terry and Lampard. Think back to the League One days, you could hear Simon Moore screaming at his defenders from the stands.

All season we've got into decent positions and squandered them because, quite simply, the blokes at the back and the centre mids protecting them can only turn up for half an hour at a time before falling asleep again. Goals haven't been that hard to come by in comparison to the last Premier League season where it was pitiful up front but at least respectable at the back.

Egan came in for some criticism early in the season but we'd be a few points better off with him being in the side. Even with 20 points at this stage with Burnley, Forest and Everton still to play, we'd feel like we'd be in with half a chance. Defeat at a bog ordinary Brentford (I'd back them to really struggle next season) left us needing snookers and short of a miracle, we're gone.

To be honest the mentality of a team is all any decent coach should be concerned with. A large proportion of successful managers aren’t tactical geniuses but great motivators.
