Some pig names from that game Grummitt ,Rodrigues ,Mobley, Potts ,Joicey ,Predergast and their wonder boy Craig all ugly bastards.Wasn't Ellis there then as well.

Mobley left for QPR a few years earlier. Potts came later (from Preston, i think). Gerry Young and Sammy Todd played in the Lane game as did Jackie Sinclair (RIP), Dave Sunley, Graham Pugh and Steve Downes. Not sure about Colin Prophett but I think he played in the Easter monday fixture. I think Ellis played in our 3-2 win

PROMOTION SEASON !!!!!

12th April 1971 0-0 draw at Swillsborough.
I went as a piggie (from a family of pig fans) and left a Blade.
I was 8 and my brother in law took me,I can remember being on their kop and three rows of police separated the United fans from pig fans. At the time I thought it was in case there was any fighting, I now realise this to protect us from the smell the gave off.
I cannot remember much about the game and I have no idea of the team (Darren) but I can so clearly remember Woody (hence my username) taking a corner right in front of their kop and thinking " he has grey hair ,how old must he be"
I went home and said that's it I'm a United fan,I can still remember my sister crying and trying to get me to change my mind ;-)
Anyone else ever been a pig or is it just me ;-(

Must be one of the few people that have experienced enlightenment at Hillsborough.

I was taken to Hillsborough by our next door neighbour at the age of 6, and it wasn't a pleasant experience, i was on the roofless kop, it pissed it down, and some bigger boys gave me a chinese burn when i told them i was a United fan.

October 3rd 1970 _ 3-2 - crowd of 39,983 - scorers Colquhoun, Dearden and substitute Tudor - can't remember much about the game unfortunately but a cracking atmosphere. Used to stand at Bramall Lane end with all away supporters behind in them days - the return at Wendies 0-0 - shared their kop 50:50 - remember remarking at half time "2 1/2 games without a goal" - drought broken by Hi Hi Hockey next day v Millwall - middle of our unbeaten run to end of season after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at QPR - which continued until a certain Best intervened at Old Traffford in Division 1. Remember an article previous to the game of player's wife's on about sorting celebratory gear for end of season !

Isn't it bizarre just how many fathers thought that standing in BDTBL lower tier would be safer than on the kop. We were near neighbours that day in 1970.

I don't remember any trouble on that particular day but bloody hell, dad.....watching people being escorted out of the front of the stand with blood pouring from gaping wounds or even once with a dart protruding from the temple always made me wonder just what a battleground the kop was.
