Mine was 1966 at Hillsborough, drew 2-2, went with my father who died in 1993. Return match was the Punton 1-0

Woodward and Jones gave us a 2-0 lead in September 1966 before McCalliog and Fantham (i think) levelled the score. Highlights of the game were shown on ATV (the ITV channel before YTV started in 1968) in the next day

From my dad...

This set the scene for the 6th Round FA Cup tie. This was at home against Sheffield Wednesday, and the city was in great excitement about it. Tickets were in great demand and hard to come by. Bramall Lane still had the cricket pitch then and a temporary extension was erected from the pavilion seating. I managed to get a ticket for this area and got to see the game. Wednesday at that time were in their first season back in Division 1 after getting promoted in 1958-9. To be fair, they had some good players. Ron Springett was an athletic goalkeeper, the full backs Johnson and Megson were steady and dependable. Right Half was Tom McInearney who was a class player. The other two half backs were Swan and Kay. Both were crude, Swan as a stopper, Kay in midfield. The forward line was very handy. Alan Finney and Bobby Craig were both very skilful players, while Wilkinson, Ellis, and Fantham were effective strikers.

On the day United were the best team by a long way. They had Wednesday pinned back in their own area for much of the game but Springett had one of his best ever games. Wednesday were obviously scared stiff of Doc Pace and Swan played a game not so much as sweeper but rather more like an ale-house bouncer. He played dirty and got away with it. Wednesday had two break-away attacks and Wilkinson scored from both of them. He took his chances well and we got stuffed. Bugger!

I'd take any of the tin pot County Cup games from the mid-late 70s, I could try to convince myself that a 0-0 reserve derby at the sty in 1977 counts but no ****ing Boxing Day 1979. What a bad year - Thathcer, relegation and ****ing Boxing Day.

My first was the Zenith Cup game in November 1989: lost 3-2, of course.

Thanks for that Silent I remember us going 2-0 up early in the game. It was quite warm and we sat in the open seats. Great atmosphere great time. Still get the odd flashback of the old man and me.

I can remember being on the Kop at the Sty with my Dad I think I can remember Mick Hill scoring cant remember the result 1-1 I think, I remember the 3-2 at The Lane with Tudor scoring and remember Len Badgers testimonial with acid being thown at the grunters on the Kop.
My best derby was the 3-1 at the Sty as has already been remembered by a few with Bobby Davison netting 2

The Mick Hill goal game was indeed a 1-1 draw on 13/1/68. Badger's testimonial was in March 73 and was also a 1-1 draw, Ford got our goal and there were over 23,000 there.

The home game in what was then Division 1, 00-01 season? Think it finished 1-1, Bobby Ford got the goal.

Best absolutely has to be the 2002-03 3-1 win. Night match, phenomenal atmosphere and Brown's goal.

Sorry but the best has to be at swillsborough in 91/92 season 3-1 to complete the double a real I WAS THERE moment.
BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY DAVISON,

I parked on Shenstone Road off leppers lane outside my sisters with every intention of staying there for an hr or so before driving home. But set off straight away got to top of leppers lane and there was a car full of pigs coming the other way. Funny but when I waved the female trotters stuck two hooves up at me

I'm confused might have been 66 or 67. Somebody remind me of the home game against Wednesday in 66 please.

I remember the Punton goal in 67 but my recollection is that is was a night match which seems odd. We watched from the new Bramall Lane stand - great view!

We didn't play Wednesday at home in 1966. The 65-66 home game was on 18/9/65 (won 1-0 - Birchenall) and the 66-67 was that 1-0 Punton win on 4/2/67.

Blimey, how many times did Birchenall score against them?

6 in 4 consecutive games.

4/9/64 A W2-0 (Birchenall 2)
2/1/65 H L2-3 (Birchenall, Matthewson)
18/9/65 H W1-0 (Birchenall)
12/3/66 A D2-2 (Birchenall 2)

Doc Pace got 5 in 4 consecutive games earlier in the 60's

16/9/61 H W1-0 (Pace)
3/2/62 A W2-1 (Pace 2)
6/10/62 H D2-2 (Pace, G. Shaw pen)
15/5/63 A L1-3 (Pace)

Must've been the Badger testimonial I was at, not a County Cup game. I remember it being a draw and being on the JST watching it all kick-off on the kop.

Mine was October 16th 2011 when we won 5-0

I suspect not. My bet is that Harry Johnson has the record.

The record is 6, shared by 5 players including Birchenall and Pace.

Johnson got 5 against Wednesday. His record is depressed by the fact that Wednesday were a division below us for half his United career.

Ha! the Len badger testimonial in March 1973. quiz question (many knowledgable Wendy fans were stumped). who was Wendy's keeper in that match?

First derby was in our centenary year, remember Palmer getting sent off, finished 0-0 i think? Was à pre season friendly. If it can be called such!

Yes, in 1989 for kicking Bob Booker in an off the ball incident. Booker had been winding him up with ankle tapping and elbow digs at the ribs

and remember Len Badgers testimonial with acid being thown at the grunters on the Kop.

It was Hodgkinson's testimonial in sept 1968

it was Hodgkinson's testimonial in sept 1968[/QUOTE]

That was my 1st derby game but I was always under the impression it was a county cup match not a testimonial, that was until you put me right about 2 yrs ago. The memory does play some tricks.

PROMOTION SEASON !!!!!

12th April 1971 0-0 draw at Swillsborough.
I went as a piggie (from a family of pig fans) and left a Blade.
I was 8 and my brother in law took me,I can remember being on their kop and three rows of police separated the United fans from pig fans. At the time I thought it was in case there was any fighting, I now realise this to protect us from the smell the gave off.
I cannot remember much about the game and I have no idea of the team (Darren) but I can so clearly remember Woody (hence my username) taking a corner right in front of their kop and thinking " he has grey hair ,how old must he be"
I went home and said that's it I'm a United fan,I can still remember my sister crying and trying to get me to change my mind ;-)
Anyone else ever been a pig or is it just me ;-(

Woody went all grey in 1973 and I remember my dad hearing a Blade calling woody "Snowy" in the pre-season friendly at York (lost 2-1). Flynn and Barlow were playing as I recall a photo of them challenging Allan Thompson to an aerial ball in that match also a photo of Reece who seemed to have an easy chance to score after he put the ball past the grounded Grummitt (the photo doesnt show how fast the ball was moving so probably the ball was moving too fast for Reece to get another touch to the ball before it went out of play). It looks like the team was Hope, Badger, Hemsley, Flynn, Colquhoun, Hockey, woody, Barlow, Dearden, TC and Reece. I think Salmons replaced Barlow for the home game against Millwall (although I remember Ford playing against Millwall. Ford was the sub for the last 4 games of that season). after the game at Hillsborough, Wendy's manager, Derek Dooley dismissed Blades chances of getting promotion!

Some pig names from that game Grummitt ,Rodrigues ,Mobley, Potts ,Joicey ,Predergast and their wonder boy Craig all ugly bastards.Wasn't Ellis there then as well.

Can't remember the year .....can't remember the result but I can remember the rattles and rosettes !

..went to at least 1 of the mid 70's county cup games but don't remember anything about them....then of course Boxing Day 79, managed to scrounge a lift in someones car otherwise it would have been a long walk from Frecheville (no public transport as I recall). One of the shittiest days to be a Blade ever, felt worse than any of the play off final defeats.
