been 8 times and never seen us win proper bogey team for me along with hull been 6 times never seen us win there as well , once went in a taxi from sheffield train station after missing the football special not thinking to catch service train derrrr another time being cocky teenager went on there kop and got surrounded by the youths police came just in time thank god

Been to Saltergate loads of times but tomorrow I'll be making my debut at their new stadium.

Last time I went to Saltergate was in January 2006 for a midweek reserve game against Stoke City. I think we signed Bruce Dyer from Stoke not long after this game as Warnock in his attempt to recruit more strikers than Scargill tried to put together the final pieces of a promotion winning side.

Early 80' as a young kid in the crowd walking from the train (football special) to saltergate bout 2,000 blades, singing all the way, police dog let loose to keep fans in order and guess who got nipped by the k9 :).
Used to love Chesterfield away cept results of course

Were they ever a bogey team!!! Went to them all in the 80s, off the top of my head, lost 4 times at Saltergate in 1980 1-2 (lge), 0-1 (ASC), 0-1 (lge), 0-1 (FAC), 82/83 when Danny Wilson scored for them 1-3, 88/89 our promotion season they did the double over us, 1-2 at their place. I think we can throw in a few pre-seasons as well in the 80s, 81/82 draw, 84/5 or 85/86 another draw I seem to recall, 87/88 another draw. 9 games no wins. The only time I saw United win at the old ground was when Colin was manager, beat them 1-0 in a pre-season about 2003 or year after.

Been twice to the new ground won one, lost won, so better record than at Saltergate.

Never went to the old ground apart from seeing them beat Crewe in about 1986, but I've been last 2 seasons. Lost 3-2 with Jones getting Pigdon sent off and it could have been 8-2.

Went to last seasons 3-0 win there and it was easily one of our best performances all season. They were dire though.

I hope you're not going tomorrow!

Saltergate only. Shit crumbling ground with blue doors and turnstiles. The very fair and likeable Derbyshire Constabulary. Dark and dreary public houses. Agricultural football. The faint whiff of the coking ovens on the breeze. Drizzle. Can't even remember the result.

Hate the kip ( old ground ) think I saw us draw once .
Never saw us win , well cant remember us winning .
Always on the side bit , open terrace exposed to the elements .
Like Barnsleys old away end .
Oh got the digs twice in one night , so that might skew my judgement.

A well known Blade once went onto the pitch in a game we were losing, wearing a black t-shirt with "F*CK OFF" printed on the front. He seemed to amble about unnoticed near the halfway line until a Blades defender hoofed the ball upfield towards him. He jumped for the header but was no match for Chesterfield centre-half Bill Green!

Dinky?

Never been to see the Blades there but my dad took me once or twice. I remember John Duncan getting dogs abuse from the fans not long before he took them to the brink of a cup final. Although, in fairness, his football was Blackwellian dross.

I think it was him. Apparently he was shouting "me brains gone to Mars" as he invaded the pitch. Against Chesterfield at the Lane in the corner between John Street and Bramall Lane towards the end of the game he jumped on to the wire fence and started to climb shouting abuse at the Chesterfield fans, he reached the top and fell off with a sickening thump. I was on the terrace straight behind him.

I first went to a friendly at Saltergate late 1960's, we occupied the area behind the goal, a huge skinhead from the Chessie end invaded the pitch only for the coppers to restrain him.

After a night away match at Chesterfield I caught the train back and ended up in a carriage with all the raggy lads, I seem to recall your Uncle was wearing a Hitler mask, may have that wrong, they were all singing " wunderba Copenhagen" for some reason. A certain well known hooly Blade threw a passengers briefcase off the train

Was the friendly in January 1971 (played on the same day as the FA Cup 4th round matches- Pompey knocked us out of the cup in the previous round). Tom Fenoughty's 1st minute goal won it for Chesterfield. I was at that match.

Memory tells me it was earlier than 1971, loads of skinheads in the crowd and that would have put it late 1960's. I suppose it could have been 1971 ?

Went to the old Saltergate in the 80's to watch Chezzy v Torquay - as a certain TC was in the Torquay team (think it was Sunday afternoon match)

Must be more on here went to that one ??

Just looked at Clareborough's book. No record of any matches against Chesterfield in the 1960s

I was at that match, the skinhead was Gessler (from William Tell), he was a mate of Sinny a Chessie Blade who I went to the match with - we had a pint with Gessler and running onto the pitch (to shake the goalies hand) stemmed from a bet he made in the pub
Gessler ran on to pitch to shake the goalies hand (think it might have been Stevenson), the goalie ran for his life when this massive skinhead came towards him.
It got the biggest cheer of the day

Yes, Alan Stevenson. Good keeper

Though Dinky was dead when he fell backwards off that fence but just got up as if nothing had happened no sense no feeling comes to mind.
