Beating West Brom two nil at the Lane in the early 2000's I remember Megson protesting to the fourth official about Warnock sending the subs to warm up behind the Kop end linesman and chat in his ear.

First signs of a simmering feud that would erupt the following season in the BOBL

1989 (BD) LEEDS UNITED (H - Draw) 2-2 (Rostron, Agana) 31,602

Remember this one well, great season.

1979 sat round my grandparents house as a 9yr old blades supporter with my grandparents who were piggy s listen to radio commentary and my grandad going berserk with his clacker/clapper whatever its called and getting piss took out of me all the festive period, managed to go to return fixture at bdtbl 1-1,just remember walking to match down shrewsbury Rd from Parkhill and blades and pigs going hammer and tong at it on that roundabout at bottom, memries.

Earliest Boxing Day memory is standing on the oop watching us beat Munure in 1966. I seem to remember they had Bobby Charlton playing and presumably Nobby Stiles. Can't remember who scored our goals. In those days the return fixture was the day after. We lost 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Woody assisted both our goals

ASSIST - v Man Utd (h) 26.12.66. A ball ran out to the right, apparently for a certain corner but Woodward snapped up the half chance and catching the ball on the line scooped it perfectly back for Birchenall to spring up like a jack-in-the-box and head home.
ASSIST - v Man Utd (h) 26.12.66. Woodward sent an accurate pass into the centre, this time from a free kick and up soared a spring-heeled Jones to head home the winner via the underside of the bar.

David Herd scored Man U's goal. In the next day he scored again and Paddy Crerand was the other scorer

Thanks for that. Wish I could remember myself. Woodward, Jones and Birchenall all home grown and the latter sold and went on to great careers. Sadly we are still doing it - Jags, Walker, Naughton, Lowton, HM

This festive double header against the biggest team in the land will always be my best memory.

I am too young to remember Christmas double headers but that's something that I'd like to see re-introduced. Brings a bit of an edge to the second game where it would otherwise be lacking.

I had mi fingers crossed that we could do the double over them.

Why they had to do away with double header games like that i will never know, maybe mardy managers and mardy players could not handle it these days.

Same for Man City and Wednesday. Played at Maine Road on 26th and at S6 on 27th. Man City fans travelling by train were returning to Manchester Piccadilly from Wadsley Bridge station and there is a good story about a very big and fat Man City fan who reacted to taunts of "Fat b******" by the Blades fans when he got off the train at Piccadilly station. He was so strong and the group of Blades fans who taunted him were punched and thrown to the floor.

Christmas Morning games were special.

Men went to the match and walked back up Shrewsbury Road to a piping hot Xmas Dinner served with all the love in the world by the grateful, loving and adoring females in our lives.

Those were the days my friends (unless we lost!1). Need a smiley for 'tongue in cheek':)

1st ever boxing day game was also my first ever Sheffield Derby - lucky me

We seem to have played Cov a lot on Boxing Day. Remember a few trips to the old ground and a few 2-1 wins too. Remember one game we went and there was abotu 6,000 Blades with quite a number dressed as Father Christmas.

Older times I remember a Peter Beagrie inspired performance seeing off Hull 4-2 with two great long range efforts. Also recall in the Prem League a poor display at Man City I went to when David White tore us to shreds.

I recall also going to Bradford when Chris Waddle was at the end of his career ad Doug Hodgson scored in a 2-1 win to put us top of the league.

Indeed most of my Boxing Day memories seem to be either home or away of big Blades followings and mostly wins. I can remember a lot more wins than losses. If I could be bothered I would look at the results since I started going early-mid 80s.

Here's hoping we have a bumper crowd and a solid win next week.

Remember going to Hull and Beagrie scoring two crackers....but I have it in my head 2-1 to Blades??

Anyway my favourite is Notts County away big following, Deano sent off then romped it 4-1 with Pikey milking it like a good un.......stupid boy

Sorry but the trauma still is there. After Jeff Bourne hit the bar and Mc Phail hit the Keeper with the rebound? All I remember is Curran on his knees taking all the green phlegm in front of us and it dripping from his face.
I REFUSE TO SING THAT STUPID BOXING DAY SONG AS IT JUST HIGHLIGHTS THEIR GLORY. YET THE BIGGEST WIN IS OURS , 7-3 IN 1951.
WHY SOME OF YOU WANT TO GLORIFY THEIR WIN IS BEYOND ME.
THAT SONG SHOULD BE BANNED.
MANY IF NOT MOST ON HERE WERE NOT BORN IN '79 SO CANNOT REMEMBER IT.
I WAS NOT BORN TILL WELL AFTER '51 BUT WE STILL HAVE THE BIGGEST WIN SO SING ABOUT OUR GLORY IN SOME WAY. NOT JUST BECAUSE IT IS AN EASY TUNE TO SING ABOUT YOUR BIGGEST RIVALS GLORY.

They used to do the same at Easter - Easter Monday with the return leg the next day. My earliest memory of watching the Blades was when my parents took me to the game at Old Trafford on Easter Monday, 23rd April 1962, we won 1-0 but lost the return on the next day 2-3.

With Sky, don't rule anythng out. They've re-scheduled Cardiff v Fulham on 8th January for an 11.30 am kick-off.

1990, away at Luton when they had their away fans ban, and just four days after our first League win of the season against Forest. Despite the 'ban', there were pockets of Blades dotted all around the ground. Deano won it for us. Magical memories.
Magical memories indeed, I was there in a small group of southern blades near the front of their kop and when we scored and starting jumping about I thought I'm going to lose my teeth now but nothing happened. Was an incredible season as up until the forest match a few days earlier we'd not won all season and yet afterwards went on a good run.
I have rather mixed memories of boxing day / new year fixtures as there have been some good results but also a fair few bad ones, in the seventies / eighties there were a few times when we'd be in the promotion slots at xmas but fade away afterwards. Hope it doesn't happen this time but those who think a win over Oldham is a cert might do well to take nothing for granted as it often depends on who is up for it the most on the day.
