Has anyone ever worked out how many of the 'rumours' on here actually have any truth in them?

Quickly scanning the first page shows that just one of the 'rumours' out of twenty turned out to be true, and that was only posted after it had been reported in a national newspaper.

I don't get it. Why bother?

There were others, but "expiring" redirect links "expire", leaving no trace of them in the Rumour Mill forum

The fact that rumours are by their very nature, speculation, means that we like to keep them in here so they aren't treated as gospel.

We provide a place for people to talk about United and a big part of football is the whispers from a friend of a friend and the gossip on the terraces. You might not like it, but then again, you don't have to read this forum. You might complain if these threads were all in "General Blades Chat", cluttering up the real news with gossip. At least if they're in here, you know what to expect.

And as Foxy says, once a rumour isn't a rumour any more, it gets moved.

Fair enough when the post is along the line's of 'I saw this in the Daily Mirror', but I don't understand why people need to pretend they know Jamie Ward's boot cleaner's granny's chiropodist, yet they can only hint at how 'ITK' they are because it's all top secret. Hush hush. Under yer hat son. And that they'd know who Blackwell had just got off the phone with anyway.

But why is it broken? A rumour mill is, by definition, going to be filled with rumours. People hear rumours that may not be true and post them on here - doesn't mean they aren't rumours.
