I get your point mate, he'd be fitting the agreed now needed criteria of the type of player we need to look at opposed to the championship journeymen..

That's it, but many fans are dismissing him for being a bit of perceived wanker. I just wondered, for purely footballing reasons, if we'd all actually be quite interested in seeing him in a Blades shirt next season.
 
I think he's worth another go under a different manager. On form, he does score goals, which is the whole point of the game after all! If he is a bad boy - get rid at that point. I'm sure he's learned a few more life lessons in Portsmouth as well as getting game time!
 
I think he's useful as an impact sub but his all round game probably isn't good enough to be a consistent player at this level.

I just mentioned it in another thread, Lyle Taylor scored 20 in 42 in League Two this year which says a lot about the standard of defending in that division

A few ex-Blades had a good season:
Lyle Taylor 20 goals
Shaun Miller 15 goals
Billy Paynter 14 goals
John-Joe O'Toole 12 goals

Northampton fans absolutely love O'Toole - I just have recollections of him being absolute dogger when he played for us on loan
 
I don't ever want to see McNulty in a Blades shirt again.

The bloke's a cunt, a trouble causer, and a poisonous influence on dressing room moral. Add to the fact, that at least 50% of supporters have turned on him, means that he doesn't have a future here.

Basically, all the things that SUFC are so desperately trying to rid themselves of, McNulty encapsulates.

It's a shame! The lad obviously has talent, and could have been a young star here, had he been more mature, and conducted himself more professionally.

Time for a new start. Clear out all the old unwanted rubbish, and start afresh. Wilder knows his stuff at this level, and I trust him to get it right. He sounds like a bloke that doesn't suffer fools lightly.

We were chasing automatic promotion from the Championship when he played for us and he was only 20 years old.
 
McNulty been told he is in Wilder's plans. But he has a few clubs interested in him.

Agree. It probably won't be the same but Wilder's tenure (and let's hope it's a long one) will be close to the Bassett and Warnock eras. Those guys had some 'bad lads' but they were never allowed to take the piss. The managers wouldn't tolerate it and neither would the rest of the dressing room.

We want players that will give 100% and McNulty could well fit the bill.

(On another issue if Matty Done is played in a position where he is able to cause problems to defenses as he did under Cloughie then I feel he is worth keeping.)

Absolutely right. Football is full of young, overpaid wankers who 'go off the rails'. McNulty is an example of where weak managers couldn't deal with him and criticised him publicly/shipped him out/refused to swallow their pride and bring him back. Joey Barton is right up there in terms of cuntishness but a strong, disciplined manager (Sean Dyche) has sorted him out.

I think some of our fans (probably those who said we were 'sorted' in attack early last season) are in danger of letting rumours of what happened in a bar in Sheffield rule their heads. We are desperate for somebody to share the burden with Billy and Che in the event of injuries/suspensions/burn out/getting sold. Our top scorers in the League last season?

Sharp - 21
Che - 11
Sammon - 5
Baxter - 4
Done - 4

Nuff said?

You only have to look at all the McNulty threads on this forum, over the last 6 months.

It's likely that the true figure that don't want the lad back, is nearer 70%, and not the 50% that I stated previously? Who knows?

Whatever the real percentage, it is a fact that McNulty is a very divisive character. Fact! Is that what United need going in to a new era?

I have no idea why there are some people wanting him back. He had a bad attitude when he played for us, not only off the pitch but he was lazy on it. In terms of ability he hardly set the world alight. He has an eye for goal and I've no doubt he could be decent in this league but he's never going to be a partner for Billy. I'd rather have Done as a replacement. We need to bring someone else in, but we need a strong tall target man who can either play along side Billy or come off the bench to change our focus of attack. Get rid for me.
