Having seen him 3 or 4 times now I cant believe he hasnt played more games. I was really impressed with him yesterday. He drifted in and out of it a bit but he's been instrumental in our upturn in form. Plus marks for Doyle aswell who looks better for being along side him. Cuvelier and Coady have a job on getting their shirt back.

Fully agree that he looks a good foil for Doyle. He must be our top assist merchant too despite only playing a few games.

He set up the Collins goal at Brentford, and then was culpable for one of theirs. For some reason he seemed to bear more of the brunt for that defeat than others that played that day - seemed harsh.

Yes I like him as well. Intelligent player, always contributes something. Should have never been dropped.

Mr Weir seems to have signed and loaned one or two players that have vanished into a black hole after the odd game.
He did sign a couple of other good midfield players, Baxter and Cuvelier that he wanted to try I suppose, and those along side Conor Coady and Doyle plus the lads who are coming through couldn't all play.
In fact if you put all the new players he brought in along side the players we already had plus the one's from the youth team it's really not surprising we never won a match, we never had a settled team just a bunch of players that changed every match.

Yeah he was pivotal in the turnaround against Coventry which was a game that looked to be over.

we are playing with belief, sometimes its the final ingredient, Weir had no idea how to instill it

players like McGinn have come in and been positive , again , a vital component, those 2 traits alone can turn us from shite to decent

I can't understand why he has not played more. 3 starts, 3 wins and came on for 2nd half at Coventry and we won that too!

Neat and tidy player, McGinn. I too thought it harsh he got the brunt of the blame for the Brentford capitulation - they were all shite that game - no fight, no bottle, let them bully us off the ball and we created feck all.

McGinn has a very good set piece delivery (save the odd corner that doesn't beat he first man - my God we must coach this into them). For me he is an integral player for whatever happens this season - a "Must Be" on the team sheet.

I am struggling to see where Cuvelier and Baxter can make a significant contribution from now on.
Weir was collecting a clutch of second rate midfielders - who could play a bit - but are lightweight and didn't support the lone striker so no chances were created.

Can't see the point in keeping Coady in the team either. If he is not going to have the impact of someone like Henry Lansbury has during his loan spells at Watford and Forest I don't see why we are not giving game time to our own players. He's a reasonable player and my stance would be completely different if he was one of ours - but he isn't.

I thought everyone was getting a clean slate? Both Baxter (20 goals last year) and Cuvellier (for Walsall last season) have ripped up this division yet most of the team which has failed us for a couple of years get a free pass? I think we are kidding ourselves if we think we are over the worst just yet. I would love to see Baxter play just behind Miller when fit. I think you will see some goals then. With Taylor and hopefully King (when he gets his act together) that's a fucking good 4 to rotate

I also think Cloughie bringing on Cuvellier for the last couple of minutes on Saturday is a way of introducing him back into the squad after what has been a tough start for him. Let us not forget Weir had him playing anywhere but central midfield at the beginning.

We are going to need Coady to because there is no way Doyle and McGinn have the legs to play at the intensity Clough insists on. with Coady and Cuvellier, again it's not a bad 4 to rotate.

Don't disagree with the promise that both Baxter and Cuvelier bring - but so far, it's just been that - promise from a past reputation.

I have seen nothing from them to suggest they are going to make the same impact as they did for other clubs last year, at the Blades. Now, you may point out that they have been played out of position or that injuries have restricted their opportunities and that may be true but I have not really been convinced they have the stomach to show at a big club - yet. They have to force their way into the managers thinking by showing their undoubted qualities to wrestle the shirt from somebody already in the team. It really is up to them. If they are no better than Brandy, Murphy, Taylor or Flynn and cannot force any of these out of the team then they are of no value. I don't see either of them getting the shirts from McGinn or Doyle in the starting XI.

I like quality players like the next feller but professionals have to match the commitment and effort of those around them and that of those they are playing against to show their true value. Rooney and Ronaldo (the slimmer) are both quality players but they absolutely work their gnads off - every game, regardless.

He started in the defeat at Carlisle and was poor to be honest.

However, I agree he should be in the side and has been very good in the games I've seen apart from that (I missed Brentford obviously). What I would say is that when he's played well, the whole side has looked much better. It might be a pure coincidence but it's something to keep an eye on.

Looking down the squad at the players we have who could change a game, I think for the first time in years, the manager could have a genuine plan B....

He must have had a falling out with Weir, no other reason for him to be out in the cold so long. Dosen't matter if he's had a shite game or two, there isn't a player in the team who hasn't been shite pretty much all season. He's probably our "most likely to create summat" midfielder. Despite all the hype the other new recruits get.

Could have been him that allegedly caused the dressing room rift with Weir perhaps? Hence why he was dropped so randomly.

Not a surprise for me he has performed well because Watford fans rated him and at 24 he has played a fair amount of first team footy scoring a few goals too. Probably the only signing that has hit the ground running IMO.

Only two players in League One have more assists than McGinn and he has hardly played.

I know Weir made a lot of mistakes but not picking McGinn was probably his worst and went a long way to Weir getting himself sacked.

Being absolute shit didn't help

I thought McGinn was the stand out performer against Notts County
Ok he dropped a bollock at Brentford but theres been plenty of those dropped this season and not a reason for him to be treated so harshly by Weir, as has been said it probably contibuted to him being sacked as had McGinn played we may well have had a couple of extra wins under our belt and it would have given Weir a bit more time

Vs Crewe McGinn and Doyle were helped by Flynn and Lappin, both of whom should be steady defensively as wide midfielders.

But in the second half we still seemed to struggle closing them down in midfield, and in the end we had to put Coady on and change to a 4-5-1. Why?

He started in the defeat at Carlisle and was poor to be honest.

That game was the height of Weir's idiosyncratic 'tactics.' Westlake on one wing, cuvelier on the other, we had 4 central midfielders, no wingers, and Ironside up front. Hardly surprising that McGinn wasn't able to perform. Writing was on the wall for Weir after that game in my opinion, showed he had no clue he to put out a team, regardless of what we might think about playing style etc.

They joined a team in turmoil - not the easiest thing for young players!

I'm confident these two proper footballers will be major assets under Clough.

Alternatively we can churn out Montgomery clones for ever more. Nice comforting Bladey mediocrity.

It's the Bladesfans' Way.

I hope they will too but they have to show the heart and commitment to show their talent in the best light and let their skills shine and, more importantly, make it count for the team.

The challenge is there for them. I am sure Clough will give them the opportunity, it's whether they take it or not.

There's nothing I'd like more than seeing us destroy teams with these two pulling the strings but it won't happen without the hard work and application that you observe in the very best and the most talented

Oh shit. That's put the pinchy kiss of death on them two then! ;)

I wish you would stop talking bollocks

Oh dear, I've upset the Flat Earth Society again.......

But seriously, it was bollocks wasn't it?

Kenilworth makes a perfectly reasonable post re his doubts about these two players and you translate that into all United fans (except you, of course). preferrring Montgomery to Cuvelier and Baxter.

Honestly, this jester act really isn't funny anymore.

I simply offer my views, in my way; as do you.

You'll see that Kenilworth replied and I concurred with what he said.

Some anti-football fans do prefer Montgomery. I understand he is regarded as one of our "Players of the Century"? The very epitome of embarrassment, I would suggest.

Montgomery has had much better games for Sheffield United than Cuvelier or Baxter so far ,contributed to a better side and played at a higher level. Both have yet to impress.
