It's not about being given an easy ride. But at the moment it reads like scapegoating.
Why is McEveley being singled out?
I'm not defending him, and he did one thing that was indefensible but if he is being scapegoated then that means the real issues are not being addressed, and a potentially decent player will be lost to the club at some cost.
If things have gone wrong, then it makes sense to work out what those things are, rather than pile the blame on the shoulders of one player.
For now I see him as both a scapegoat and massively out of order, if that's possible.
I don't think we lost on Satdi bc of McEveley but that seems to be the idea that's taking hold.
A few here think he was decent at CH at least till Spurs away, it makes sense to get that player back, rather than jettisoning him at considerable expense in more ways than one.
