What about Stuart McCall for manager?

We played some of the best football in recent years under his time as a player and coach. He has added to his managerial experience since then at Bradford (with both hands tied behind his back) and more recently with Motherwell (also not known for throwing cash about) resulting in them getting to the Scottish Cup Final.

He might not be the obvious choice, but perhaps more acceptable than some of the other candidates e.g. Brian Laws, Boothroyd, Danny Wilson etc.

What do you think?:)

Watched Motherwell this weekend to see if he could be a candidate: based on this weekends showing NO.

I think he should have been given a year when NW left - far better positioned in my opinion to know what we needed to add to the squad to get back up. His lack of success at Bradford was in part due to him taking over at a difficult time for them. A lot of success for inexperienced managers in their first jobs is largely down to their own ability, but a large part is down to whether they are at that particular job at the right time. Bruce and Speed are clear examples where they were with us at the wrong time in my opinion - they may well have succeeded with us or other clubs as their first jobs had the circumstances been a bit more favourable to them. Someone like Spackman in contrast had a lot of early success for us - had we not sold JAF/Deane, he may well have gone on and had a successful managerial career.

I reckon had we appointed Macca in 2007 that he'd have done well - certainly better than Robbo at the very least. We'd likely be in a far better financial state, as I can't imagine he'd have been given the level of finance Robbo was. If you recall though, McCabe said at the time that Macca would certainly be interviewed, only for Robinson 2 days later to say he wouldn't - he was never given any serious thought ultimately.

I think the immediate benefits of appointing Macca in 2007 aren't there with the current squad - it's a completely different set of players now to when he left, and it's a much tougher job. As with 2007, I doubt he's anywhere near McCabe's shortlist - only this time it's probably for more sensible reasons.

Got to be a better choice than Peter Reid I agree...

Don't think McCall is the answer. Not done that much really, never really got going at Bradford but managed to get a Motherwell side to the Cup Final. Not a fantastic CV. We need someone who has managed at this level and is proven.

Buckle (Torquay Manager) if they do not get promoted anyone?

Oliver Reed would be a better choice than Monkey Heeed. Even when he was drunk, and alive.

Reed's team would have been fun to watch.

The 0-0-10 formation with the gk coming up to attack for all corners.

Guaranteed brawls in every match, the players being forced to go on pre-match binges.

Ollie attacking Paul Walker and Seth Bennett in a post-match drunken rage

"I'd rather have McCall than Wilson, Laws et al "

My point exactly!

How many will be happy with the appointment of Laws?

By the way, I think that Motherwell getting to the final was a great achievement given the squad and the funds available. Stuart's time at Bradford saw him do better than our earlier manager Brian Robson.
