Wait until Maguire has gone, then we'll see if McC is getting an easy ride.

My thoughts exactly, Maguire is defo going I have been told this evening so if I were McCabe I would be looking for that tin hat.

_In a nutshell - The reason McCabe is now not getting flack is that for once he made the right decision by appointing Nigel Clough !
I think you will find the prince, who people keep thinking hasn't put any money in,was the one that got us clough imo

. He just doesn't need to work swift ones on his beloved club, he's loaded, even after spending £80m plus on United.
.
Loaded and were still in league one hmmmmmm,i wonder what else he could have done for his so called beloved club.

And of course, you'll lead the applause if and when Harry signs a new contract?

Hey there's no bigger Blade than that fella ;)
Maybe here is the reason he was so kind to write off the debts .......
Any Football League club that exceeds an £8m loss for the 2013-14 campaign when their accounts are submitted by 1 December this year is subject to a punishment.

One thing is for sure, he won't be getting his shopping from the local food bank. BTW anyone know how much the rent is on Bramall lane and the Academy ? I wonder if it is game changing ?

I would cheer so loud it would rock the rafters my old stalker, Unfortunately from what I have been told it's not going happen.

I don't think this is in the same league as the two Kyle's going, at least we have had three years out of Harry not five minutes, but it's a blow and another player that has to be replaced and almost certainly by someone not as good.

after once again trying a manager who on paper looked to have it all in Weir , it didnt work , very much in the Robson vein , on paper it looked wise in reality it cost us another season in league one,the bare fact we are still here belies the turn around .
Not in manager but McCabes input . He was out , waiting to sell , not interested, that cost us our championship place, he was treading water, as a chairman, but the deal hes done has put him back in the game, hes re ignited his passion, theres a purpose that was missing , pity it came just too late , about 5 games, to change this season , but the futures brighter as the drive is back .
I always thought he drove us on early in the decade , but waned after the first play off loss post the prem .I wanted him to go if hed lost that drive, but if he is behind us again , hes atrue blade , yes hes made mistakes , but dont we all,if any of us had mega bucks wed probably be just as random with our choices , some might work some dont,

Chairman Whelan kept Wigan up , finally got his best ever manager in Martinez , his words , and they got relegated, you cant guarantee anything in football , but you do need that driven desire,

Weir was just a cheap (and turned out to be crap) option. The difference with Robson is that everyone knew it would be a clusterfuck apart from McCabe. Don't forget about his disastrous forays into foreign clubs (Chengdu came back and bit us on the arse); the guy lost interest when he realised he couldn't use United to forward his property/construction interests.

Despite now having the prince on board my view has not really changed much of McCabe.

Pros:

  • We have a better ground and facilities than we had before he arrived.
  • Helped create one of the best football academies in the UK.
  • He hired Warnock and stuck with him which gave us good cup runs, play off run and eventually promotion to the Premier League
  • Took the scummy West Ham bastards to the cleaners when most people would have not bothered or given up
  • He has got the Prince on board and looks to have secured the long term future of the club
  • Hired Nigel Clough and is letting him have the freedom to do his job properly

Cons:

  • He let Warnock waste millions just before we won promotion on shit like Akinbiyi
  • Then we did not spend enough (probably because enough was wasted prior to promotion) in the Premier League securing better players
  • Hired Robson and let him piss most of the parachute payment money away
  • Made the random decision of sacking Blackwell at the start of a new season rather than letting him go after the Play Off final loss to Burnley
  • Allowed Gary Speed to leave not that long after becoming manager
  • Hired Adams who was useless
  • The succession of bad decisions listed so far has led us to being in this shithole of a league
  • Sacked Wilson at the wrong time
  • Took a gamble on Weir who had no experience as a manager when we really needed someone with promotion experience

There is probably more to add to either list but I can't be bothered.

So if Maguire has turned down an offer to make him the highest paid player at the club, and Maguire says he wants to leave as he wants double what is being offered(which we cannot afford) why should McCabe be looking for a tin hat ?

Because some people are thick

Weir was appointed at a stage when KM had decided that the club had to pay it's own way, literally all costs covered from annual income. He had put in his last bail out and enough was enough and he could not have been clearer. Weir accepted the job on those terms when such as McCall saw it as a poisoned chalice, which it was, because our fans just never would understand that it was going to take at least 2 years to clear out the high wage earners and replace them with lowly paid youths. To say we should have appointed an experienced, quality manager under those circumstances is naive, unless it was a true lifelong Blade or the like, which nobody wanted again anyway.

Then came along the prince; things changed- we hope. Clough has been appointed in totally different circumstances with a different brief and a different budget. He has also been given close to total control of all aspects of the club with his pals in the major positions. Please do not compare Clough with Weir, it's not a fair comparison, to either of them.

Because if we sell him for less than £ 5m to £6m, the supporters will quite rightly go shitless !!!

Rather than accept £1m from Wolves, we should tell them to fu** right off and play him next season as he is contracted to us until June 2015. If he then walks away, at least we've had a decent crack at promotion.

He isn't worth anywhere near £5mill- £6mill...however I agree we should make him honour his contract

If the deal on the table was only a million then I would agree. We would get compo because of his age. If is £2m+ then sell and buy 3 quality players. we have to spend every penny we can this summer.

This is bringing back a few memories!

I take your point ..... but he's worth whatever we make somebody pay to sign him. If we say to Wolves or whoever, we are no longer a selling Club ( I will believe that when I see it ) start the bidding at £5m or fu** off. Then they either bid that or they go away !!!

Other Clubs tell us "you have not met our valuation of the player" so we should have the ba**s to do the same for the first time in the 50 years that I have been supporting United !! Now that would be worth waiting for ........

Get what your saying pal,but i can assure you, if i had mega bucks i would atleast make sure i didn't sell my clubs best players, who i support and run, unless its for megabucks, just like the wigan chairman does.He doesn't sell any of his best players cheaply does he.

I allways want the best for the club where as he hasn't,not all of the time anyway imo,for me he has sorted himself out way too many times and some people allways stick up for him no matter what. There is no doubt about it,the book stops at him for the reason we are still in this shite league.

I agree it would be totally pointless to sell Maguire for less than 3 million, let him see his contract out, by then we may be in the Championship. The higher league would give us more flexibility with wage structure and he may decide to sign another contract, particularly if we've won the league and assembled the right squad. I'm sure like anyone he wants to play in the Premiership, but I'd like to think he'd enjoy doing so most whilst captaining Sheffield United. If he chooses to leave on a Bosman at the end of the year he'd getter better personal terms and the clubs owners would have shown some ambition in not selling our prize asset.

All that of course is dependent on speculation that he even wants to leave in the first place?

If Maguire goes for anything less than £3 million then the directors of our once proud club will have failed in their duties - We are now in a position to say to young Harry "We will get promotion this year and then make a decision"
Bookies favourites for promotion everything is going for us - let Nigel Clough do his business and watch us go
Sheffield United have a golden opportunity this year - everything is in place - a couple of extra striker signings and we're nearly there .......don't **** it up Blades

I know a stone McCabe is often pelted with is his lack of recent investment. I can completely understand why he turned the taps off myself, if I was loaded I would love to invest in united but whatever the value of my wealth I'd have a cut off for my investment. Most people would agree that it's family then united, therefore you've worked all your life for your wealth so to give your loved ones a good life. It seems to me that McCabe reached this point about 5 yrs ago but he hasn't pulled out, hasn't crippled us he's just cut costs and seeked other investment. It's not been great for a while but I respect what he has done, he's made some bad decisions but I'm sure they were made with the best intentions. I love united, always will but I wouldn't put bankrupt myself for the club, only to be given abuse for not spending enough. Some fans, not all but some never seem to realistically put themselves in McCabe's shoes

Sorry to say it looks likely he will be going.

What should happen is we say bollocks to everyone and take the chance with the last year of his contract. If we have a great season and get promoted and he still walks away then he has helped us towards our goal. If he is part of a promotion winning team and starts playing in the Championship then he is less likely to leave and may even sign a new contract.

What will happen is we will sell well short of his actual value (we should be slapping £2m on him minimum) just because we want to grab a few quid quickly. It will cost us in excess of £500k to find any sort of a replacement who won't be as good and we will effectively go backwards.

A disaffected player in the team and dressing room is not what Clough will be looking for or will endure.
If his head has been turned then we should fight tooth and nail to get the best price northwards of 2m and let him go.
Add ons can make the final price more palatable and Clough can get on with building a team in his image.

Sorry Southall, that is patently unfair. A professional valuation of the hotel as a going concern was read out at the AGM that year. Why imply something of an ulterior motive when there isn't one? I pursue the point because at least one person "likes" what you are saying and may believe the connotation you are putting on things. At that AGM KM stated that banks had stopped lending to football clubs ( and they had big time)so he had to find ways to clear the debt. That was "kind of him" to use your words. If he had not done that do you think the club would have survived if he had called in all his loans which had funded simple working capital over the years?

I must say it is far easier to defend KM under current circumstances. Rumours and innuendo like yours were rife when we were under the cosh only a little while ago. KM has seen United through to a new era of ownership and has made sacrifices to enable it. Best to give credit where credit is due at last. Nobody would defend his choice of managers or the club playing-record since 2007, but surely his integrity should not ever have been in question. He just doesn't need to work swift ones on his beloved club, he's loaded, even after spending £80m plus on United.

If he ever gets a reasonable proportion of that back it will mean we are in the Premiership and we will all benefit, so let's wish him well.

What I described above regarding the hotel is broadly what happened.
Sheffield United built a hotel on their land at a cost of around £20M and Kevin McCabe bought it for £10M.
Which part of that are you disputing? Why is it patently unfair to point it out?

well explain why southampton , are selling everything but the kitchen sink ,, wwe do not have unlimited funds so we have to wheel and deal, , such as Jagielka , no way would we have sold him had we equalised against Wigan and stayed up, but any club that gets relegated has to cut its cloth
Rotherhams just gone up , promised to launch a prem assault then sold Pringle to Leeds , ring any bells
