After a season of abject failure, and failure after failure over the last 10 years (2 relegations and a now record 6 seasons in the 3rd tier of English football), should McCabe resign as Chairman of SUFC and let someone with drive and ambition for the club takeover?

Hassell did the right thing in the wake of relegation to div 4 in summer 1981, with pressure from Blades fans (next Sunday v Scunny would be a good time to voice our dissatisfaction) McCabe should do the same!

So he quits, what difference will it make? He'll still own half the club!

But he now has the ground, academy, Copthorne etc...Princey got done up good and proper for his quid/£15 million...

We already had a director that was richer than Hassell and that was Reg Brealey who joined our board in 1980. Do you know if any of our directors are rich enough to buy out McCabe? If not, then do you know of any Blade fan rich enough to buy out McCabe?

The answers to my two questions is probably "No" so McCabe stays

I'd say there's at least one with more money (the Prince), whether that would be a good idea is debatable. We had a similar situation around the turn of the century with McCabe taking over from McDonald (at the time I'd say McCabe didn't have the same financial clout as McDonald, so having more money doesn't necessarily have to be a deal breaker - and McCabe's contribution to the club up to the Premier League season can only be seen (mostly) as a success). Even with a reduced budget SUFC should be head and shoulders above all clubs in this division, so I don't think we should get side tracked with money as an issue. Drive and ambition at the very top level is sadly lacking at United (we have two owners who are very rarely in the country let alone at the Lane), unless we stumble on another Bassett, then only a change of Chairman can really drive the club forward imo.

McCabe's asking price is unrealistic though...the question should be "is his romanticism/loyalty hampering the club"

It would be nice if we had a Bassett to change things. Am sure McCabe would too

Yes, his asking price is unrealistic and that is his right. Yes, we have underachieved since 2010 but I cannot see McCabe writing off what he is owed by the club. He is still keeping us afloat and allows us to pay affordable admission prices.

I hate seeing us play in this tinpot division and am still hoping fir a Bassett type revival as soon as possible

Well McCabe+ now Princey keep us alfloat...I know what you're saying but sometimes wonder whether a 'clean slate' wouldn't be better...McCabe has looked after himself/family with assets he's taken from 'the club'...whatever 'losses' he feels he's incurred...he's covered , to some extent, isn't he?

Mcabe quite frankly lost any modicum of respect for him other night when he again blamed 'luck' what a fucking idiot

Face it. McCabe has manoeuvred his stake in the club whereby he is absolutely unsackable, unresignable and in a position that the only way out is if someone comes in and buys the fucking lot off him, lock, stock and barrel. We won't be rid of the twat until that happens. We've been quite blindsided that every step of the way on our downfall, McCabe has iteratively upped his stake in the club. He now sits on a smashing investment package, with a football club sat at the hub. Really, it matters not a fuck if we slip into the Vanarama ... his wedge is practically safe. And that is where we are. To keep the footballing end of his chugging along, we sell players and buy shit. What does it matter to him? The crowd boo an empty seat where he is meant to sit, and every year, more people buy up season tickets because 'they always have'. It's like a fucking ever decreasing spiral.

We can yell "McCabe out!" for as long and as loud as we want, but as long as we sit in this position, he'll never go and no one will ever buy.
