I thought we were just speculating? you lieing prick, 2.5 million is a fucking joke! the going rate for a striker that scores the goals in the championship bt does is about 5-6 million, how does a player lose 1.5 million in value like that?, there is no way we are going up with an attitude like we have, my orient ticket has just been returned, good day!

I understand the strong views, but is there any need for such abuse? :)

I like the way he finishes 'good day!' I imagine him flouncing off with a top hat and cane, and perhaps a 'humph!'

Rinse your dummy and put it back in mate. £2.5 for a 30 year old who's scored 5 from open play this season, on massive wages, in this economic climate is bloody good business.

I have to disagree, especially when you consider that we have recently paid out a similar amount for Darius Hendersson who has a comparatively awful record when compared to Beattie.

I'm not knocking Hendersson and i dare say that he is worth what we paid for him.

I agree that Beatties age would restrict the fee but we should still have been looking to recoup what we paid at least.

lets sit tight keep mouths shut until end of jan, no replacements by then we can air our views and i will be one if we dont

That has made my day! Beattie leaving was worth that :D haha.

he is. he's saved the club from ruin along with the rest of the board. its disappointing to lose beattie, and im just as concerned as all of u are. i was excited to hear lita may be joining until i got home form work and heard the news. and it does seem just like the old days, selling best players etc. but mccabe has worked miracles at bdtbl and have every faith in him to turn it around. maybe there is a player in the pipeline we just aint heard about other than lita. just give it time. its all happened so quickly really.

Serious question.

I thought McCabe was brilliant?

Well my friend, it's like someone has in their sig - quality is not an act, it is a habit. McCabe has been brilliant, but that status is not immutable. I think he's come out of this looking bad, and has lost some credibility certainly, but he's far better than any chairman we've seen at your sorry excuse for a club recently.

Ah, nothing like a trolling piggy to make everythig seem better ;)

It wasn't a dig at you. I couldn't agree more with that statement. Up untill recently McCabe looked brilliant. Developing ground, linking with clubs, buying players.

But now a lot of fans have turned against him. Yet 2 week ago he was gods gift.

I think its more than 2 weeks since people started to turn on him a little. I think a lot of it stems back to the Robson era, and the fact that McCabe didn't act soon enough.

Ask Beighton if he agrees... :D:D

He is still acting in the best interests of the club - of that I am convinced. You cannot possibly convince me that having James Beattie on board to slot away our penalties and the odd free-kick (and for Linz to gaze at) was worth a continued outlay of nearly £2m a year, unrest amongst players renewing their contracts, and the risk of losing Kyle Naughton.

Don't worry TA word has obviously got round in the club because after last nights match the players had a bit of a beauty parade for Linz to pick out the replacement!!!!!

What is it with you lot?

The world economies are in a deep downturn, and just because the footballing world hasn't collapsed in on itself yet doesn't mean to say that it won't in the next few months.

There will be those clubs such as Man. City, Chelsea and even QPR who are fairly immune to external financial pressures, but the rest of the clubs will begin to struggle at some point.

TV money will no doubt be reduced in the next round of negotiations (after all Sky have just been tagged by Goldman Sachs as an investment to get out of, and they don't have any real competition anyway). The number of people attending games in England is bound to go down too as they lose their jobs and tighten their belts, so income WILL start to dwindle.

McCabe was right to say that we need to restructure ourselves. We really can't hope to remain financially sound if we don't look to change the wage structure, and Beattie was obviously skewing the pay demands of the other players. Paddy deserves a good wage, but one that is commensurate with our current financial position and not that of the Premier League clubs that he could potentially play for.

I'm pretty sure that the club would have sold Beattie last Summer if they'd got a decent offer. But they didn't get one, and so the scenario where he lumbered around the pitch for half a season, scored a few penalties, nodded in a few easy headers, hit almost every free kick straight into the wall, didn't keep up with play, didn't lay the ball off to teammates, didn't created many goal-scoring opportunities for the other strikers and STILL attracted a bid from Stoke somewhere near to the vastly inflated fee we paid for him in the first place was rather fortunate in my opinion.

I agree that it would be nice to be in the position of having bought in a replacement before we sold, but that's not always the way of things in real life. You have to take your opportunities sometimes, and the timing was right to get rid of a striker whose best days are probably behind him.

The thing that worries me most about the whole situation is the way that Unitedites are reacting to things this season. Sure, we Sheffielders are a miserable buch of people at the best of times, but the atmosphere around Bramall Lane this season was bad enough before everyone turned on McCabe. I only hope that people can find it in themselves to enjoy themselves at a few matches this year.

Lighten up, and look forward to the players we are going to bring TO the club.

We won last night - enjoy it!

Hi welcome.....................

If McCabe wud keep his gob shut and stop talking bollox........he might not get the flack he does !

It's a very tough thing to be interviewed over footballing matters.

In any other business, companies just wouldn't talk to the press at all regarding thier running unless THEY wanted to do it.

Football managers and chairmen are expected by the media and fans to tell them everything, yet by doing just that it usually ends up weakening their hand. They can't win.

On the Lita issue, United messed up. They obviously shouldn't have said anything.

That said, how many times do we or the press (or agents) speculate about signings and get it wrong? It's all part of the fun of being a football supporter, isn't it? In a perfectly run football club you'd have a press conference when a player signs and a press conference after the match with the manager. Wouldn't that be boring?

I'd rather have a chairman who talks like McCabe or John Ryan than the Dave Allen type. Say what you want, but McCabe is at least one of us Blades.

Agree with this to a point. Have every confidence in McCabe as a charimen but some of the stuff thats come out of the Lane in the last 3-4 days has been embarrassing which, to me, has caused most of the unhappiness.

My question would be, do have a Press/Media Officer. If so, i don't think he's doing his job correctly. He should looking at the statements from the club and vetting them, then advising the board on what effects, positive and negative, they could have and making changes accordingly.

Just my opinion, but this could have been handled much better if this had happened.
