This thread had quietly slipped into obscurity for obvious reasons. Only fair i should give it a friendly bounce again. I'll let the stats decide who is the better buy.

McBurnie
9 appearances 1 goal 0 assists 2 yellow cards 0 red

Maupay
10 appearances 4 goals 0 assists 1 yellow card 0 red

You have a point to be fair, one less than us in the league table.

McBurnie works his rocks off at both ends of the pitch. Right up there with defensive headers and clearances. We are less expansive than Brighton. Two different types of player.

Why is a Brighton fan on here bumping a thread? Weird

Appearances can be deceiving, if you'll excuse the pun...

Maupay has played 695 minutes, McBurnie 460. So Maupay has played 2 1/2 games more. One of his four goals is a penalty.

Is a goal every 231 minutes better than one every 460? Sure. But if McBurnie were to score in the first few minutes of our next game, he'd suddenly have basically the same minute-per-goal ratio as Maupay. That's how daft it is to draw this comparison now. Mousset was "the worst signing of the summer" according to some commentators 6 weeks ago, now he's our top scorer and looks a steal.

Fair play to Maupay for only getting 1 yellow card though, that is top work, well played and I look forward to comparing their yellow card tallies later in the season

I bet Maupay rolls his socks up, doesn't look like Harvey Nichols has thrown up on him and doesn't tweet support for his former club. Minutes per goal pales into insignificance when you consider these points.

Surely a better comparison would be maupay v mousett as from memory we wanted to sign both mcburnie and maupay but maupays agent started playing up so we went for mousett instead and signed mcburnie later

Be interesting to.see how those stats hold up , especially for the player who.cost half as much

I reckon once we signed R9binson it was only going to be McBurnie.

Id be very suspicious of any player who doesn't relate to and support his recent team mates. Would be more like a mercenary than a right sort of bloke.

I was joking. It's been referred to a lot that we have had the likes of Walker and Maguire showing up at matches and it's seen as a good thing. McBurnie is doing the same, if they were in the same league I wouldn't be impressed but at the moment it's fine.

I’d still rather McBurnie, he’ll come good.

Not sure this bed wetting from our fans is doing him any favours though.
Agreed. I've seen him tear us apart on too many occasions to know he is a good player. At the moment all strikers are suffering from not playing a 10 which has been our system for ages. Front 2 are far more isolated.

Ability, mentality and general cuntery aside...... McBurnie was the player type we needed most, or at least seemed to be. So was an obvious choice.

But when you now bring the small matter of ability, mentality and general cuntery into the equation...... well, it's not a favourable comparison is it.

Maupay's attitude seems brilliant. He's hit the ground running. Doesn't act like a fucking child. He's probably even a better target man.

But I'd take Mousset over both, without any doubt. He always had a higher ceiling than both, because athleticism.

Also, looking at how Robinson's been used as a striker, I don't think Maupay was ever happening after we signed him and Mousset.

General Cuntery at your service!

Far too soon to know but thanks for popping up to ask. The fact that Brighton were obviously happy to be robbed by the leach sorry agent representing Maupay and we weren’t makes this a slightly irrelevant question any way.

I was at the Brighton Spurs game and despite Lloris basically giving him a goal, there’s no way that I would pay £20m for Maupay. He wasn’t very fast, lost the ball a lot and was not really that creative. His work rate was ok but nothing special compared to his strike partner, Connolly. The kid was making his debut and looked twice the player Maupay did

It’s a tricky question to answer.......id say Maupay is more of a goal scorer, kind of a younger Billy Sharp
but McBurnie has more to his game and bigger potential.

for the here and now I’d choose Maupay but regards the future I still think McBurnie is going to be a bigger asset.

I’m not convinced it was his agent. I just don’t think he fancied it and probably knew there was a possibility of Brighton so he hung on for them. It makes more sense for him, he’s based in the south east, probably didn’t have to move house.

I don't think we will see the best of him or Robinson till we switch to a 433 formation

3-4-3 could work.

We'd have to drop a midfielder though. Would be an interesting experiment though with McG Robbo and McBurnie as a three.

The only important stat is that his agent wanted an extra 800k and we wouldn't pay it

The lads obviously a mercenary and will fuck you off first chance

We'll see on the stats at the end of the season.

Like Waghorn last year, he was offered a choice between glory and money ... and opted for money. As me and BadBuyJr (Jr) always say, "Fuck him, if he doesn't want to play for us".

We can revisit in May, but right now Morepay can bollocks.

800k is chicken feed for the Premier league. You appear to still have that league 1 mentality paying peanuts.

Nearly any player will fuck off for more money. Not sure what your point is there.

It was 800 k after everything had been agreed
Cunt stunt ,you can keep him

How’s about we just try the slight hangs of formation that got us here before ripping up our trademark back 5?

I'm happy with the back 5 but I doubt we will see the best of him in our current formation....... Let's hope I'm wrong or it changes but on and off the field he hasn't had a good start

The point is our manager won’t be held to ransom by agents wanting more than he feels we should pay especially if he’s already agreed the deal or thinks he has. There’s a documentary about a transfer deadline day that followed Wilder and saw his reaction to a similar situation then. Worth a watch.

Maupay has 'poor man's' Aguero potential. Takes the ball really early, superb striker of the ball, excellent movement.

I think McBurnie looked to fit what we needed and was the right signing for the time. I think Maupay will have a better career

he didn't want to come here.
