Quick update:

McBurnie 5(7) apps (511 minutes), 2 goals (1 goal per 251 minutes), 2 goals from open play (1 per 251 minutes). 1.31 xG (outperforming by 0.69)

Maupay 10(4) apps (989 minutes), 4 goals (1 goal per 247 minutes), 3 goals from open play (1 per 330 minutes). 5.66 xG (underperforming by 1.66)

Funny how these things change - McBurnie's now scoring at pretty much the same rate as Maupay and that's despite being limited to a bit-part role. The stats would also suggest that Maupay is more wasteful: McBurnie's are a bit skewed by the fact that 8 of his 12 attempts have been headers which by definition are classed as lower chance.

Not saying Maupay isn’t better but what are the stats based on minutes played rather than appearances?

McBurnie hasn’t started many and generally comes on late on to either see out a game or shit house defenders.

As i already explained. I don't go by minutes played as both players have been available. What it does show is that Maupay starts every game because the manager likes him and has faith in him. Maybe McBurnie isn't at that level yet ? I don't know. The only stat i'm interested in is goals and Maupay is ahead comfortably.
At this point in time. Maupy looks the better buy.. I'm also confident he will be ahead come May as i predicted

They’re different types of player. I’d like them both in our team.

You obviously had some argument back in the summer about the relative merits of the players but most of our fans now hate McBurnie and want him loaned out to a conference side as soon as possible. I think he’ll be a decent player but he’ll never score as many as Maupay.

Maupay has missed lots of sitters also. He works very hard but needs to be more clinical. I'm 50/50 with him. He is only 23 though.

The thing is we both paid a lot of money for 2 Championship players of very similar abilities and goal scoring records. The fundamental difference this season is Brighton haven’t got anyone good enough to keep Maupay out of the team. McBurnie is being kept of our side by Lys Mousset who is going to be an absolute superstar.

Watched Maupay in the game today, didn’t have many chances, but that long pass for his goal was class, followed by a really good finish.

He’d score a lot of goals in our side with movement like that.

However, he’s very very different to McBurnie and I’d say he’s more similar to Mousset in the way he plays and so far Mousse has been class.

The problem though is that a lot of the quality chances we seem to get don’t fall to Mousse, but McGoldrick.

I’ve not followed this entire thread. But if we’re looking at McBurnie v Maupay, it’s pretty much an apples and oranges comparison.

In terms of value, McBurnie has been used a lot more later in games when we’re either trying to hold onto a lead and being used a lot more defensively or pushing to come from behind and needing a different type of player up top.

Id be really interested in the stats which show the players involvement in a game

Even Looking at points gained/ lost or goals scored/ conceded when they’ve been on the pitch probably wouldn’t work too well.
Against Man U McBurnie scored the last min equaliser, which was great. But the full story is that when he came on we were 2-0 up, within 11 mins we were 2-3 down.

Personally I see a lot of value in McBurnie as he’s coming into games and doing a job, sacrificing himself into a different role than just scoring goals
