Personally I see a lot of value in McBurnie as he’s coming into games and doing a job, sacrificing himself into a different role than just scoring goals

It’s a very grown up job he’s doing late in games at the minute. Mature performance today for the last 10.

I'm still backing McBurnie. I think he's starting to really show some signs of a quality player. He will be a good player for us & if we had more creative midfield players he would have a better chance of starting. But while ever we're setting up with a flat 3, we need McGoldrick's superior link play.

It’s the same arguement. Totally different types of strikers, so it’s difficult to compare Maupay with McBurnie.

Wilder had success last season with a front two or Sharp & McGoldrick, so his task was to bring in younger versions of those two.

Basically Wilder saw Maupay as a younger version of Sharp and he saw McBurnie as a replacement for McBurnie....
his assist stats were very impressive last season and McB gives us a bit more physicality.

Mousset was seen as a punt on a young lad with big potential...who never had the chance at Bournmouth due to them having strikers in great form.
Also believe Wilder thought Maupay and Mouset would both help each other settle with them both being French.

The only one that matters is that Brighton signed a vastly superior PL CF for the same money as we paid out.

Other than that, McBurnie is a different type of striker, bought to effectively replace Leon. Maupay would have been to replace Sharp.

Wilder will be in the market for a Maupay type in the not too distant.

The most important point is that Maupay didn't particularly want to join Utd whereas McBurnie did.

Good luck to Maupay who appears to be doing well at Brighton but I'd much rather have players who are desperate to join and play for the club. McBurnie will, I'm sure, make a significant contribution throughout the remainder of the season.

OK, it might have been an 'either' or for us, we don't know for certain but they play a different role. A better comparison is Maupay v Moose in terms of the role they play for the team.

What you don't understand, is that arguably our most effective forward player this season has been McGoldrick and he has the grand total of NO goals. As long as the team is winning we are happy.

You stick to your Maupay >> McBurnie stat.

I prefer 7th in the table to 13th, as it happens......

Steve doesn't understand context. Or that posters who go on rival boards come across either as friendless trolls without any social skills, or obsequious Uriah Heep types.

A question as to whether goals are the best way to compare these two players is highly relevant. You may prize a player for his value to the team above the goals he scores, for which the obvious example is McGoldrick.

As it is even Steve's stats are misleading because while Maupay has done well to score 7 times so far (and perhaps earn the move to Sevilla he was afraid to chance in the summer), he's played twice as many minutes as McBurnie.

Maupay still has a scoring rate twice that of McBurnie even after that, but even given the difference in time spent on the pitch:

Tackles won: Maupay 4 McBurnie 6
Clearances: Mauapy 5 McBurnie 22
Headed Clearances: Maupay 1 McBurnie 20
Aerial battles won: Maupay 13 McBurnie 60
