McBurnie and Egan

Yeah they’re different but both could be brilliant focal points in a 4231 or 433 type formation
i think mcburnie will go weve got osula as back up to moore if we do go 4231 for me we need more of a fox in the box type striker similar to sharpy we cant rely on brewster and marsh is still raw at this level

Can't see us offering McBurnie the chance to train with us just for him to fuck off to a CH rival.

Theres likely summat more to it.

I think McBurnie is better than Moore.

Moore is very good but it would be ideal if McBurnie was first choice with KM coming off the bench or playing when McBurnie isn’t 100%.

McBurnie misses a fair bit of football and we’ve never really had adequate cover for him.

Problem with McBurnie is that Wilder has turned him into a target man. He's never been a target man. He likes to link up play and get on the end of crosses and cut-backs.

Now we have Moore, hopefully Wilder will play McBurnie how he likes to play.

Agreed, has better feet than people give him credit for due to his lazy running style but he’s got decent quality with the ball on the deck

And hopefully McBurnie will sign the contract that is on the table and not try to bleed us dry. He's had plenty of money out of us so far and been injured or suspended for considerable periods during this time.

If not he can ply his trade elsewhere and the fact he hasn't so far indicates there's not much demand for him

I think the fact he hasn't is because he wants to stay here.

Think of it this way, hypothetically speaking...

SUFC: "Oli, we want to keep you when your contract expires"

Oli: "Yeah sound, I love it here. Send me the contract"

SUFC: "Here's the contract. Sign at the bottom"

Oli: "This says £20K per week. I'm on £30K per week?"

SUFC: "Yes but we've been relegated now so are only offering £20K"

Oli: "I want to stay, but I can't accept £10K less per week. Keep it at £30K and i'll stay"

SUFC: "We can't at the minute, but you know we're trying to get new owners. Stick around and train with us and if the takeover goes through, we'll keep you on £30K"

Oli: "OK, that sounds fair. But if the takeover doesn't look likely and you won't give £30K, i'll have to move elsewhere"

SUFC: "Oh by the way - this is Callum we just signed from Coventry on £40K per week!"

Oli: "But you can't maintain my current wage?" 🤔

do you know you might be on to something here matt never been a mcburnie fan but your right hes not a natural target man but is good at dropping deeper and linking play up could just work in behind moore

Not just Wilder (& Hecky). John Egan was also massively responsible. Every time he got the ball, he pinged a long diagonal towards McBurnie.

Throughly engrossed reading this post.

Wilder worked twice with him in the PL and his record is very good.

He didn’t work with him in championship with Hecky. Imagine what he could do in the championship with Wilder

I agree. Speculating about ITK'ers has become the new speculating on signings/takeovers, it's so f***ing passé. The way ahead is completely fictional conversations to just play it out and let us reflect. I'm fully on board.

I, and I'm sure many of us, wonder where good ole Johnny Egan will end up and what became of his final conversations at the Lane.

Think of it this way, hypothetically speaking...

SUFC- "John, we need a serious chat"

Johnny E- "AHH Jaysus lads, anytoime sure what can Oi be doing for ye so?"

SUFC- "This is Jennifer from HR. We fear due to your long term injury, the recovery not progressing as expected and your age, in addition to the potential takeover meaning we're working to an uncertain budget, we're not going to be able to offer you a new contract".

Johnny E- "AHH, Jenny- you don't moind me calling you so do you widout it sounding presumptuous- Jennifer was of course de name of my first pet rabbit. Rampant little fella he was, mad as two frogs on Good Friday. Got himself the nickname "Mad Frank" down at the Hole in the Wall, great days. Anyway, what can I do for ye?".

SUFC- "Erm, John- we're going to have to say goodbye".

Johnny E- "Ahh Mary Mother O' God dat's a shame. Well oi'll be seeing you around lads, all the best to you so, tanks a million".

As they left, Johnny E just allowed himself a little wry smile. And rumours persist he's still seen at the training ground to this day.

Your comment about his running style made me smile because its so true.

Must have one of the worse running styles in football, reminds me of Steve Clarridge.

McBurnie looks so ungainly, when he runs he’s kind of limping, always looks knackered and that’s before the game has started and his face grimaces as though he’s always in pain when he runs.

His sprinting looks weird. He does look a bit crap but as you say he does have decent quality, much better than he looks.

As mentioned I can’t see a long queue of clubs or other clubs fans wanting him. He’s a bit of an acquired taste however apparently he’s excellent for morale in the changing room and has a winning attitude. Wilder likes those types of characters.

Mc B was still our best defender, midfielder and attacker last season - when he played- a very low bar given the coaching. Still a no brainer to give him a new contract for now and incentive to get us back to the exploitment league.

Relegation will have brought his wage down under the terms of his old contract. Are we offering less than those reduced terms? One can only speculate.

It's like the front two legs of a horse. That said, he'll be faster than me.

Hypothetical convo continues

'Yeah that's right Oli, you miss
too mamy games due to injuries and suspensions and you won't get 30k a week takeover or not. We'd love to keep you at the right price but we just signed your replacement if not and we gave him tje number 9 shirt"

Runs like a knackered pony, nobody coming in for him, so as I said before he'll sign rather than be unemployed, stick with £20k or whatever is offered and if he doesn't sign it's his fault, plenty more fish etc

Number 9 on Moore's training kit. McBurnie definitely gone

He won't be training with the squad but being allowed to use the facilities, I think the lad needs to realise he's not got a lot of options at the moment his best bet is going to be one of the promoted teams or top end league one !!!
He's a good player I think his lazy running style puts people off

Mcburnie hasn’t exactly jumped at the chance to sign so he cannot seriously beleive he can say what he wants especially with trivial squad numbers.

How long can he be left just training? If he ends up staying, he'll be unavailable as hasn't had any pre season.

Well we aren't paying him so provided we plan without him, then I don't see the issue.

I'd rather he stays by the way as I like him as a player (when he's fit).

Yeah, but that just feels like we have him around but unusable??
