Alreight y'all I'm a little confused is /does our 1 nil victory over boro count as a win or does it have to be 0:0 like the grunters say at the rustbucket UTB/FTP

All means very little if we get beat by Reading
And they're showing signs of improvement lately
A 2-1 win over Blackburn last night and a narrow 0-0 defeat at the swill means they'll be full of confidence and can have a free hit at us

Pretty much my thoughts. Before Villa i predicted 7 pts.

Draw villa
Win boro
Win Reading

A draw or worse v Reading would throw away tonights hard work.

Yet another faithless fan

Yes we might not beat Reading
We might get struck by a meteor too

Like being supported by the Glums
"Ooohh what can go wrong next "

Considering you’re a ‘Blade too long’, you should know by now that we’re all ‘glums’. We all invent scenarios as to how we can fuck up more spectacularly than the last time. Heard someone say other day “that’s the most Sheffield United thing Sheffield United have ever done” regards the Villa game.

It's not just us, it's Sheffielder's in general. Even Mr Sheffield himself, Neil Warnock, referred to this trait when he was manager. It bloody gets me down, I'll tell yer. It's the one thing about Sheffield that I absolutely hate and despair of...this negative attitude all the bleedin' time about anything! A lad I worked with some years ago lived in this area for a while, he wasn't from here originally. I asked him what he thought of Sheffield folk, as an outsider and he summed it up like this...

"Summat bad might 'appen"

I wonder sometimes what makes local folk so bloody negative in their outlook? It's not even just football related. It's life in general.

That outburst the other night after the Villa match...I mean...it was just beyond all belief. Yes it was a very frustrating finish to the game, very frustrating. But it was a freak result. No other way to explain it. That will probably never happen again in the next 50 years. We'd played so well and wiped the floor with a top team with loads of dosh on their own patch for the most part. But few fans could rationalise it for what it was. This forum is full of posts wanting to blame somebody or something for it. According to one post, that 3-3 draw at Villa was a potential "Season Destroyer". Unbelievable!:tumbleweed:

I bet some fans on here are disappointed that we beat another good side last night and stay in touch with the top 2, because they'll have bugger all to moan about today.

And when we beat Reading on saturday it's going to be hell trying to find summat else to complain about isn't it?

As someone who spectacularly undervalues our players I'm not so sure he can claim that total faith.

Then constant blind positivity is no different to abject negativity if you're that way inclined.

Nigel Adkins hasn't been forgotten already surely.

Sometimes it's difficult not to think "here we go again" or "summat bad might 'appen" when...…

You've seen your team relegated after missing a last minute penalty.....relegated with a POSITIVE goal difference....
You've seen your team lose a two legged play off to stay up....
You've seen your team lose play off finals at the old Wembley, the new Wembley and Cardiff....
You've seen your team score 5 Goals in a play off semi final second leg and still lose....
You've seen your team lose cup semi finals at the old Wembley, the new Wembley and Old Trafford...

There are many others as you know but sometimes, CB mi old, experiences make you think how you do.:(

Of course, every now and again.……………………… you get a May 5th 1990!:)

Form table last 10 games. Let’s be honest shit happens but we shouldn’t dwell on what-ifs. We seem to be doing just fine taking it one at a time.

That highlights what a superb run Bristol City are on. Credit to Lee Johnson for that, can’t see anyone relishing facing them at the minute.

Pessimism is near-universal among football fans. Only one team can win each league, success can also be promotion/qualifying for Europe for a few, or avoiding relegation for a few more. But most teams inevitably 'fail'. This was brought home to me on a phone-in a year or 2 back when an Arsenal fan said (without a hint of irony or self-awareness) 'It's torture being an Arsenal fan - we haven't won a trophy for 4 years'.

They’ve won away from home once all season - in September.

Yes they are in OK form, but we should be putting them under maximum pressure from the start.

Edit - we also have the best home record in the division.

this is a good team

averaging over 2 points a game
will be good enough in most scenarios
especially if leeds and norwich keep getting the 1.6 per game they are getting

Yes, anyone would think that people from the Country's 4th largest city with a wonderful track record of footballing success would all be happy clappers

Not too bad GB, likewise, hope the last few days haven't been too taxing for a man of your.....ahem.....experience?;)

Best result of the season for me last night given how things seemed to stack up against us. The hangover of Villa, change of shape, personnel and formation and up against a Pulis led bunch of Neanderthal giants. A real battle and to a man, they fought their proverbials off. Now let's hope the medics can get us ship shape for Saturday!

I’ve got Spurs supporting mates and they’re the same. For a ‘big club’ they win very little and have a tendency to mess up in big moments.

Spot on.

I've no problem with people being positive. Jeez I wish was a bit more in all aspects of my life at times. Then again there's a reason for that which is down to personal experience. Which effectively follows with United too.

The only big big game I've really believed we would win was the Burnley play off final. Nothing more than gut feeling but genuine belief. Probably why it was one the hardest defeats for me to shake off as a fan.

Some though don't seem able to differentiate between those few who constantly whinge and moan about anything and everything, and those who are wary of getting carried away.

You can enjoy the ride and the style of play whilst retaining a cautious outlook.

Propaganda is for the Pigs and NKT.

we go on like we are the only supporters thats ever suffered
are we the only team to lose several play offs ,,,, no
are we the only team to throw away leads ,,,, no
have we had the ignominy of going through admin like 56 professional clubs have .... no
have we had 20 years of prem return season tickets ,,, no
have we only won 1 sheffield double in the past 100 years ,,, no
are we fleeced for ticket prices ...no
took preston 8 pay off finals to win one

its not getting carried away , its enjoying the moment
when you lose 1 in ten and still think , its not going to end well , thats being miserable

clubs like us without endless resources have to enjoy our current status , it defies the odds
middlesboro paid more for their tea lady than we had to spend on some
of our players
