United are expecting to complete the signings of David Cotterill and Matthew Spring to make it a triple transfer swoop on Thursday.
The deal to sign Maltese goalkeeper Justin Haber on a two-year deal has already been concluded and winger Cotterill and midfielder Spring are likely to follow without complication.
Loan favourite Cotterill has re-signed at Bramall Lane on a permanent deal. He impressed in his 16 games for the club during a temporary spell at the end of last season.
United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Wigan Athletic and he has signed a three-year deal.
Boss Kevin Blackwell said: "Bringing David here is something we have been trying to conclude since the end of last season. He did quite well feeding in balls for Beattie and Sharp and now with Henderson on board, we need that kind of service.
"He is only 20 and a full international. He has shown glimpses of the real potential that enabled Bristol City to sell him for £2m. David had set his heart on a move here, is prepared to look for a house in the area and we are showing the same commitment to bring him in."
Spring, meanwhile, will sign a one-year loan deal from Blackwell's former club, Luton Town. The 28-year-old lists Leeds United and Watford as his former clubs.
