We've all seen him on the touchline at every game with Chris and Alan. What often surprises me is that he seems to have a bigger input than a fitness guy usually has, and is often consulted by Chris during a game.
However, for one thing alone, I think we owe him a great gratitude, and that is for ensuring that Goldie has been available just about all season, against a background of regular Injuries and shortened seasons. Goldie is so important to us that we have managed to get by the loss of Billy without heartache. This could have been a disaster, but in truth we have managed easily.
I know it's a team effort in the grand scheme of things, and that is our biggest single strength, but I just thought that a shout for Matt was appropriate. Our injury record under him is remarkable to be fair, and cannot be down to luck.
Well done feller. Top bloke.

No recognition from me I'm afraid.
I don't know how many more times it has to be said, WE'RE NOT UP YET! ;)
Well done Matty and thanks for conditioning a promotion winnable side..........
Well the PFA and LMA are giving out their awards, so why can't we?

The fact his official title is first team coach suggests he’s more than the fitness coach
He is a qualified coach, but the website calls him 'head of sports science', either way he is a top man in his field.
Edit, out of date news.

We’ve had a couple of other threads about him over the years, so he’s certainly not gone unnoticed.

I think his role is more than just fitness as he has/ had a coaching role as well.

A lot of what he does will also be supported hugely by the medical team and the sports science/ performance analysts as well.

We've either had fantastic luck or a fantastic fitness/medical team over the last 3 years.

As we're talking about Sheffield United, and considering our previous relationship with Lady Luck I'm going to go with the latter.

There have been plenty whining posts when we rest Duffy or Sharp. Yet when Sharp played three games in a week he got injured late on against Millwall.

Something tells me the professionals have a good handle on managing the players’ fitness.

It's true the fitness & conditioning record of our players has been first class. The wing backs in particular regularly put in exceptional work rates. Didsy supposedly has benefited from a cutback in motoring miles from Nottingham to Suffolk which is undoubtedly a bloody awful drive ... but the lad has proved his doubters wrong in terms of his fitness record & I'm sure the Blades fitness regime has had a role to play.
Without wishing to tempt fate, we will need to have a really tough pre-season to prepare us for the undoubted physical challenges ahead - the speed & athleticism of some play nowdays is breathtaking .

UTB - can't wait for Saturday.

He did a really good interview a while back on Sheffield Live. I assume it's still on youtube and it's well worth a listen.

You can't know from the outside exactly how much influence someone like Prestridge has but it can't be coincidence that we've done quite well for injuries in spite of how well we train, and given some players like McGoldrick that have had injury problems before coming here, and also given the unbelievable fitness levels of some of our players. The amount of ground the wing backs cover is ridiculous in this system. Same goes for Duffy, JOC, and Basham.

We're obviously doing something right when it comes to fitness and Prestridge does seem to have a lot more involvement on the touchline than similar in his position.

Again, can only really speculate from the outside, but no small part of Wilder's success will be about the advisers he keeps around him. Similar to what people say about Knill being an excellent tactician who, by his own admission, didn't like the spotlight.

I was listening to Danny Cowley yesterday and he was saying management is 80% recruitment. He didn’t specifically mention staff but it’s just as important to get the right staff as it is players. Wilder has an excellent team behind him; Knill, Prestridge and Mitchell deserve a huge amount of credit.

After the Millwall and Villa games we were slated as the unfittest team in the history of football by a select few. Amazing what a few wins do.

Confidence and enjoying the football we play are also big factors AS WELL AS a fantastic fitness/medical team :)

I'm not sure what you're trying to say: are you saying Coutts injury was good luck? o_O

Obviously no.

I'm saying - quite clearly - that we've had both good fortune and a good medical staff.

No amount of sports science can prevent unfortunate injuries. You can prepare as well as you like but if Sharp snaps his hamstring 10 games into this season, Norwood breaks a leg and Henderson breaks an arm, we'd not be on the brink of automatic promotion. We've had a brilliant run with injuries the last few years, particularly this year, Coutts being the obvious exception.

Thought it was worth bringing this up again, as, touch wood, our fitness levels have noticeably improved since he returned as head of sport science.
Long may it continue and hopefully he gets the recognition he deserves.
Obviously very good at his job ,it's no coincidence

Thought he was now on the football coaching side of things and left the fitness/sport science behind. Well he did at one point anyway and was purely football coaching, maybe he’s moved back into fitness then?

Definitely in terms of availability.
Fitness levels, less sure on. I think we've faded a lot in games this season.
