A terrible end to a terrible week. – Septimana Horribilis, to misquote the old Mrs Queen (RIP)!
We started OK against Plymouth – their stupid defender gave Jes inside onto his left foot and he rattled in a beauty. Here we go, I thought. Well no – because then it was back to our old negative nellies of this week – Jackie Long Throw didn’t cover himself in glory as Plymouth scored twice, and we spurned some great opportunities at the other end.
Everybody is now saying that’s an end to Automatic Promotion hopes, so I’m going to be positive: –
Holding replaces JLT, Ty Campbell goes on a scoring spree and we win out for 95 points.
Burnley drop points at Watford and QPR and finish on 93!!
Look, a new Graph 1 shows it happening, so it must be possible!
Graph 1:

As usual, Graph 2 compares this season against our last 3 successful promotions from this level (all in second place), in 2005/06, 2018/19 and 2022/23. On 83 points after 42 games (with the 2-point deduction) we are still 4 points ahead of the 79 points that we had under Wilder in 18/19, 1 point ahead of Hecky in 22/23 and 1 point ahead of Warnock in 05/06. In fact we’re still only about 2 equivalent points behind what I regard as our best ever season at this level in 1952/53 under Reg Freeman.
So this can still be our best ever season at this level.

Finally, the coloured annotated up-to-date League Table, which from now on will only get better and better!!
