Kevin 'captain clueless' Blackwell was the worst. He didn't have a scoobies about how to play to Billy's strengths when Billy had returned back from Scunnie, and he had taken over from the useless alco.

Is it any wonder Billy failed the first time he returned.??..with those two cretins as our managers.

Both had him running the channels for Beattie...when he was the more natural goalscorer and more clinical in the box.

Whilst ever you give Billy decent service, he will tuck them away. Most natural goalscorer at the Lane since Edwards.
 
Be nice to get this one over the line. Reckon he could be a reyt signing for us.

Prolific doesn't come close. Saved us from a relegation scrap under Adkins and then fired us out of league 1 before putting in a very solid showing back in the Chmpionship.

Oh and that fucking ball from Gary Speed at 0:30!!!

Not to put a downer on things but what a player, what a tragic loss :(

Wait for Roys view...Boro fans really don’t rate him. Wouldn’t get your hopes up yet.
 
To be honest, there's a few things to take from this:
  1. If Boro are signing Besic and/or Bolasie, they mean serious business and Bolasie is a great replacement for Traore (what a player for 22 btw!). They're going for it, shit or bust. They're my tip to win the league.
  2. If they are loaning us Johnson, they don't see us as a promotion rival, clearly.
 
As an aside there has been talk about his position, which is left wing with bags of pace but not a wing back, a position most of us would like to see as competition for Stevens but a piece in the star by our Danny states he is a winger who can play full/wing back, is this true? I hope so and would make sense, can someone on here who knows a thing or two about him confirm this.

I was actually under the impression most people thought he'd be coming in to compete for LWB. That was mine anyway.

Would take any comments from Boro fans with a pinch of salt.

He’s hardly played any matches for them.
Only started 6 matches with another 11 coming on as a late substitute.

I really believe using a players strengths and playing them in a certain position can transform a player.
Also some players just fit the style of some teams more than others.

If he’s a quick winger then in some teams it’s not a big deal due to the way they play
But in our team a speedy winger should give us an extra dimension because we haven’t had proper wingers for ages.

He spent nearly all of his time at Oxford on the wing with the odd cameo during matches down the middle. Don't remember him ever playing full back but I only watched them a few times when he was.there. Their fans remember him a as winger for sure definitely.not a full back. That's not to say he couldn't play wing back or full back...altho he had a reputation for being a bit lazy !

I saw him play LB a number of times for OUFC FB - I think it was initially to cover an injury (maybe Skarz??) but I also saw him play there several times as the preferred option. I think he'll still be more comfortable going forward than defending but he'll hopefully be able to add more attacking threat playing for Utd as a LWB (assuming he joins of course) and he would of course give CW another option as a LM/LW should he choose to change formation during a game.

Agree - don’t think anyone will see us as a promotion rival though. They’re all too arrogant looking at their super star squads and counting the 0’s on their budgets.

Works for us though, we surprised a few last year and may well do again this year if they underestimate us and we add a couple.

Jim they've not had that many but when you sell the likes of Roofe, ODowda , Johnson, Ledson, Lundstram etc in a short space if time and replace them with loans and lower quality players it's hard to make progress.

That's why Appleton left, he knew he'd gone as far as he could given the financial situation. They don't own their own ground and their average crowd is poor. The only way they survive is by developing players and selling them on.

There was hope the new Thai owner might change things but so far he hasn't and the appointment of show pony Robinson as manager isn't working out so far.

Maybe we don't have a winger for a reason. Dad's army up top no longer have the speed, but they have positional sense. So Norwood, Coutts, Duffy slotting passes to where the striker will be bypasses the packed defenses and the need for speed. Hence the older experienced striker recruitment.
 
Seems Bolasie is at Villa today so its not certain he's joining Boro sadly and therefore presumably no Johnson till they get that replacement.
