Is he a decent striker? Rather have Leon myself
Imagine Coutts playing the same through ball to Clarke or Joao. Who would you back to (a) get to it before a defender and (b) use his physical presence to hold off the defender? Of the two I'd say Joao. However, it is when you factor in (c) that there is the potential problem, which is that Clarke is less likely to hit row Z with the shot than Joao. However at least he got there!

I would be more convinced if it said we've agreed terms and he's having a medical.

Having the medical before personal terms are agreed doesn't make sense to me
Thinking about it, it would be sensible to do the medical first if we are confident of agreeing personal terms and we want to register him (or whoever) in time to play tomorrow.

Medicals will take a while to arrange and complete whereas contracts can be sorted relatively quickly.

I'm just thinking out loud, I know nowt.

He wouldn't be considered tomorrow I don't think, as he's hardly kicked a ball. Hurst has wrapped him up in cotton wool since all the interest

Must admit I was impressed with Joao when he played against us. Pace, power and skill and a real threat. Can't see it happening but would be a good signing.

Clarke scored more goals than joao last season
I'll put this one down to Steve agnew/ Gary parker syndrome where a player who plays well against us is world class regardless of his statistics for the rest of his career

This is the downside of all these negotiations. It doesn’t do anyone any good.

- Distracts Ipswich And the Ipswich squad and they can’t spend the money they get at the last minute
- Whoever signs him can’t acclimatise him with a pre season
- And the player himself isn’t sharp and can’t perform straight away

No one wins really. I know it sucks to sell a player and you need to be firm on bids but it’s no good waiting till the last second and not having rhe time to do anything.

For all parties (unless of course he stays) this would have been better being sorted a month ago.

In which case why do an expensive medical before personal terms are agreed?

It doesn't make sense to my logical brain

Look at how many times he started compared to Clarke. Joao 18 starting 12 as sub 9 goals Clarke 39 starts and 19. Not saying he should replace Clarke, yet, but as others have said there is something about him that can be worked with. We all have our opinions. I can respect yours.

Maybe there is a reason he didn't start many

9 goals from 30 appearances and people on here talk about him like he is mbappe

No people talk of him as someone who might be of use because he possesses attributes we need. I certainly don't think he's Mbappe. That would be stupid.

One last push and the thread may make 100 pages before he signs especially if the Joao distraction continues.

For what it's worth I can't see the Massive selling him to Utd even if the interest is genuine. I think Waghorn would be a better option although I am a little surprised Gallagher hasn't been tried for again in recent weeks or that Nakhi Wells doesn't seem to have been of interest to Utd (or any other Champ club)

Don't be surprised if we go back for Gallagher on loan.

The official account just tweeted this from the fan forum tonight .. doesn’t seem like waghorn is close!

Wouldn’t put it passed wilder to mislead like that and then we announce waghorn bur if it’s true I think it’s a sensible move not to go matching huge offers or getting into a bidding war. He’s a Decent player but I’m not convinced we can’t get better for a similar outlay....

Gallagher, Waghorn, Clarke and Sharp would be great and up there with the best attacks in the division.

I'm surprised Gallagher has attracted interest from other clubs - his stock has really fallen over the last 12 months. Perfect time for CW to strike.

He was a first choice target so if he's available for loan, and I think he will be as Southampton realise no one will pay £7m, I'd imagine we'll throw our hat into the ring. But, you know..... wages.

If we get Waghorn, we still only have Clarke who can compete in the air. Wilder likes target men. I don't think he'd want to go with only one who resembles that description.

Signing two more strikers would also place Woodburn as purely an attacking midfielder.

People keep talking about a 'bidding war'.

I'm not aware anyone else has bid, think it's more a case of brinkmanship and who blinks first. How bad does hurst want the money to rebuild or would he be happy to carry on as is?
