Gone Elsewhere Martin Waghorn

I've just got a gut feeling that we're still in for Waghorn and wouldn't be surprised if he lined up for us in a couple of weeks time.

CW is no mug and, if he doesn't come here, so what? We're not talking Neymar here. This is probably his (and his agents) last chance for a game-changing career move (just ask Leon). But if he doesn't come, Chris has still got £5m plus wages in his war chest, the clock is ticking for players to get moved on and there's poker games being played by clubs wanting to shuffle their pack. Noticed how many of Wednesday's dead wood haven't been shifted off the payroll?

With that in mind, what about moving for Lucas Jaoa from the pigs? Sure they'll claim - like all their players - that he's worth £30m but they're delusional. A move to BDTBL would be a step up. No relocation expenses, a club with ambition and playing in a great stadium in front of bigger crowds than the pigs.
I heard we had a bid accepted for Jaoa, but, surprisingly, we couldn't meet his wage demands.

Wouldn't that be a thing of beauty watching him fire one in against them at the sty :p

I've got no problem in taking their players but in all honesty how many would you really take?

Jaoa is probably the only one, he's quick and tricky which we would benefit from. The rest are over paid prima donnas with little or no output.

Forest Fairy is their shining beacon. God I hope someone comes in for him hahahahah!!!!

Only if Jagielka comes back.
I think back then there were 5 subs on the bench where you could, if you wanted not have a goalkeeper I think when it increased to 7, in line with the premier league you have to have a goalkeeper on the bench, not 100% certain but I think it is correct

Obviously, but that's not how we Blades operate. We've taken several ex-pigs purely on how good a job they'll do for us. I particularly remember Alan Quinn scoring against us at the kop end on 17/1/2003:

At the time, I thought 'You cheeky little bastard' with his goal celebration. But that's the Blades mentality, that's why ex-players (Booker, Maguire etc.) are often seen with the Blades fans at away games - it gets in your blood. Wednesday players are just treading water until the next club comes along. While we acknowledge that players like Brooks have done well for us and wish them well, Wendy fans say 'He wasn't any good' when they leave. To listen to Wednesday fans (and the local media) Forestieri is a world-beater. I haven't noticed anybody queuing up to sign him.

The last Martyn W we signed didn't work out too well...

What are the chances we'd sign another 3 years later!

Martyn with a 'y' as well. Is pure craziness.

Never underestimate the ability of a Blade to find a new reason to be pessimistic... And incidentally, is 'pure craziness' Google-translate for 'bonky madness'?

I think there's some hesitancy there, because at 28, he's only performed like last season just the once. Fans would generally like to see us spend the money, but are looking for a cast iron guarantee. Unfortunately in football, there aren't any.

First to say, in CW I trust. However, it's strange this football malarky. He cost Ipswich £250k (I think) A year later, they are asking for multi zillions.

Clubs usually layout these vast sums when either an up and coming young star with lots of potential, or when consistently producing the goods. Just seems odd that Waghorn has took until now to reach his potential. I hope he isn't a one hit wonder. By that I mean I believe he's a decent player regardless, but he may not repeat his one season of excellence, so £5m (or more) not so sure?

It's very rare for our beloved club to go splashing the limited funds we have, I hope we don't do a Rhodes that's all and fans are desperate for CW to get it right

Just to repeat though, in CW I trust.

If you wanted a cast iron guarantee you would be looking at spending £10m plus. In the league we are in £5m for a striker carries an element of gamble.

I bet Gallagher doesn't play for Southampton much in preseason.
Doubt Wells will at Burnsly either.
Are Peterborough playing today?

I'm not saying it means much but it at least shows how wanted they are by their parent clubs.

*Hogan has a knock still I think

OK perhaps I exaggerated with the "literally hundreds" but a lot will go into these decisions.
Don't agree with all of those but worth a like just for the time spent composing the list!

It's a good thing Waghorn's starting - they can get him nice and sharp for us and hopefully he'll burn many, many calories in the heat today and lose a stone or two...

How overweight is he?

Maybe up to a stone. That extra weight helps him be strong but he was always strong enough earlier in his career when in my recollection at least he was lighter and quicker than he is now. I think he can get the balance better physically.

Which don't you agree with out of interest?

It was a good list off the cuff and you were never going to come up with things that anybody else couldn't think of because as soon as they see them they would agree. The only way that would happen is if you both composed a list and compared.

I'd say he's under 10% body fat there. I'd go as far as to say 8%.

One thing I'd like to point out with Waghorn is how many of his recent goals have been penalties.

SPL 2016/17 - 7 league goals - 2 penalties
Scottish Championship 2015/16 - 20 league goals - 8 penalties

Can't find the penalty stats for other competitions.

But last season only 1 of his 16 was a penalty.

Power. Imagine what those legs could do if they were carrying a little less weight!

Wilder mentioned when signing Egan the fact he's played at Brentford as being a positive.

Maybe this one is going a bit far, but I reckon if a player has only played under Big Sam or Tony Pulis his whole career it may factor in as they'll have been taught to play a certain way that's completely differen to our way of playing.

I've read stuff about how certain scouts will talk to ex teammates and staff to find out what kind of a character a player is, including finding out what they're like outside of 'work' too.

Obviously I don't know whether Wilder and team definitely take these kind of factors into account, but I'd guess that they do.
