Marlon King?

Yes but Kitson hadn't scored 13 goals in the Championship the season before we signed him for a piss poor Birmingham side

True, he went for about a goal every two games for Birmingham, a quota that our current strikers could only dream of.

If he wasn't poisonous we'd get nowhere near him. If we weren't in a great big hole we'd not have touched him.

Desperate people go to Wonga. Desperate football clubs go to Marlon King.

Exactly this. We are desperate, we are below a team who started on -10 and there is only 7 games gone.
I predict that King will score more goals on his own than Porter, Ironside and Taylor do combined for us this season.

United are in a desperate situation; the defeat at Carlisle and the 2000 drop in the gate for the last home game meant that something needed to be done before Saturday's game. It was reported that King was around last week. For all I know United could have tried to sign somebody else early in the week and failed and so they called King back. Unless its a brilliant individual effort, then cheers for a King goal will be for the whole team and not just for him.

It seems strange that none of today's news reports even mention his recent arrests.
Have these charges been dropped? Does anybody actually know one way or the other?

Nobody in their right mind would condone what King has done in the past - but it's in the past. My concern when it comes to SUFC is the present and what we do on the pitch. If King scores the winner on Saturday I'll be delighted.

Serious question, but is it though?
From wikipedia it states:
"King was arrested and bailed in April 2013 after a car crash which left one man seriously injured.[64] On 30 July 2013, he was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run incident which had left a man injured.[65]"

Have these two been cases been dropped then? I honestly don't know how the process works or how long it would take for these to come to court, but unless have been dropped they must still be pending.

I seriously doubt after Ched the club would sign anyone with a court case pending for something as serious as hit and run, especially given all his other convictions but if we have then we deserve everything that will be said by Samuels and everyone else. Never again could we market ourselves a family club in my opinion.

I'm not normally a person who is in the hang 'em and flog em brigade at all, and do believe people have a right to a life after prison, but what King has done on numerous occasions shows he has little if any respect for the laws of this country and seems to believe he can do whatever he wants. It's not as though he can exactly claim hardship or lack of opportunities. From what he said to his victim before he smashed her in the face it's quite the opposite.

Signing him does sit very uncomfortably with me, and yes I will cheer a goal if he scores, because I have supported United all my life and will always cheer when we score, but I won't be cheering him and will explain to my 9 year old on Saturday just why I dislike him so much and wish he wasn't wearing our shirt.

Oh dear. I'm saddened by this signing. Not because of any moral outrage . But just because we can do surely without the fallout that comes with it. For the same reason I wouldn't want Evans back..I get, and sympathise with (nearly) all the view points. I can put up with, and endure, the stick we'll get from oppo fans. What worries me most is the split in our own support..

The atmosphere will be poisonous on Saturday if we go behind. The morons currently running Sheffield United should have thought of this before we signed him. Oh, and after trying to give him as much support as I can, backing him 110% and desperately wanting him to succeed, Weir can now fuck off. He is done with me.

I really can't get the moralistic crap on here today. He's done his time for his sins so I'll judge him by how he behaves in future. I may not invite him round to meet the family, but as a footballer I'll judge him by how he performs in the red and white. I would have preferred Van Persie but apparently he wasn't answering his phone during the transfer window.

Here's the harsh truth. If we were banging goals in for fun, I'd wonder why we've done it given his history. However, because we're shit, I don't care.

How bad is that?

:)

I can relate to this aswell!

"It sets such a bad example for our youngsters coming through, who are just crazy about being professional footballers.. Young people look up to professional footballers and we must have standards. " David Whelan, Wigan Chairman

We're lucky we don't have such standards. We're just a sad, desperate, pay anyone anything to do some dirty work kinda club. The man has 14 convictions, for varying offences of dishonesty, violence and sexual aggression, and is still getting himself into situations where he's arrested (twice) just weeks before he signs for us.

No problem, we need goals.

Take a leap of faith though, and imagine that we don't go behind..For me, ideally, Marlon King will slip under the radar and our hopefully winning goal will come from Ironside, Taylor or any other for that matter

And therein lies the rub.

Even in the last few months he's been arrested. All this "he's served his time" justification doesn't wash.

He's a nasty serial offender who has no consideration for anyone and he's a liability to have at the club.

Remember how well we held it together after ched was sent down?

I look at this as a purely short term signing until the January transfer window opens or someone else comes along better in the loan window. If he scores some goals all well and good if he doesnt release him and tell him to fuck off. Im not in favour of it but the pigs signed Ranger and he had court appearances coming up this stuff happens in football its not as if weve given him a 3 year contract

Not moralistic crap in my book , and I was no angel let me tell you ,just being able to tell your own kids what's right from wrong , and letting them learn to obey normal society's rules, don' t rob people , don't abuse women , in a sexual or physical way , you know things we all want , in streets were we want to live, but hay if he bangs in the goals , some Blades will think fuckit 3 points is more important , they'll be Bernard manning jokes over the tannoy system at half time next , along with roasting the local slapper in the tony currie suite at full time , off to look in the mirror now . U.T.B.

I love how all these people have morals all of a sudden. Probably the same idiots that walk around wearing "justice for Ched" badges.
Ched , got his justice in court , not a question of morals Matt , just what's right and wrong , still like the av by the way . U.T.B

this is ridicules. why and how do people confuse some ones private life with there working life ? I don't get why people at the top of there profession lose there job due to incidents that has no relation to the quality of there work.

how many good politicians lost there jobs over a sex scandal ?

So if Rooney was going to sign how many would say we don't want him he's been allegedly linked with prostitution and infidelity, or we cant sign George Best he's got a drink problem and it may influence the kids. cant have maradona drug abuse cant have Paul Merson gambling the list is endless who's to say half the team don't wear women's underwear on Friday nights. point is when the whistle goes there footballers and what happened off the pitch has no bearing on that.

I think the point I am trying to make is they're footballers not role models or saints.

I have no interest In what any player dose when he's not on the pitch its just the 90mins on Saturday I give a toss about and at the moment beggars cant be choosers.

this role model stuff is complete bollocks. Do you want your kid to score goals like Best ,Gascoigne Shearer or do you want them to be drunks ,wifebeaters and boring bastards like they are off the pitch. My role models included Currie , Woodward and Gary fucking Glitter when I was a kid ,all 3 have very dubious happenings in their private life but that's not why I liked them. Name me a good role model ,and I will find you a flaw.

Indeed. Marlon King is not wanting to be a social worker or MP or judge. He is a professional footballer for fuck's sake. The last I looked, you didn't have to be of upstanding moral character to do that job

Extremely disappointed to learn that we have signed this bad egg.

Shame on David Weir and SUFC.

This has to be our nadir. :(

Marlon King is a complete and utter twat but if he bangs the goals in for us then I really don't care. Would people rather us not sign him and us remain stuck in the shit?
when he offends again ................................ because he will ?
He was asked pretty much that question on Radio Sheffield earlier, and he didn't give an answer. All he said was that his main concern was his family.
But go on I will bite, why is it embarrassing not to have a season ticket ?
I think he meant that its embarrassing that you said you would send your season ticket back if you did have one, not that its embarrassing that you don't have a season ticket.

I wonder what the Saudi Royal family think about employing a thief, thug, woman molester and beater. Most of society shun women beaters and sex offenders, even prisoners inside don't like sex offenders and rightly so but hey it's all forgotten if he scores a few goals. Maybe we should do what they do in Saudi and chop off parts of his anatomy as long as we leave his feet alone.
Sorry to say SUFC have found a new low point. I thought the club was better than this and had standards, I really am disgusted that the club has signed such a piece of crap. It does make me wonder if there is any Saudi investment in the pipeline if we have to stoop so low to score a few goals. A 33yr old journeyman with a record as long as his arms you couldn't make it up.
FUCK OFF WEIR/McCABE ....................... ashamed of the club tonight
