I've never heard of this before but I can understand, if it's as cut and dried as your first statement that somebody who was dabbling in football club ownership would suddenly go 'fuck this' and drop the lot.

Spackman was not convinced of Fjortoft overall contribution and although he was a good goal scorer overall we scored more and played better when he was not in the team. His agent was subsequently told to offer him around and if we received more than £700k he was free to leave.
Unfortunately this coincided with Benfica being made aware of the release clause in Deane contract, he was not happy at being kicked to death in EfL wanted to try playing abroad and was therefore allowed to leave. Unfortunately these happened on the same day.
McDonald had lined up the aforementioned replacement but UTD fans demonstrated outside BDTBL after a night match, his wife was spat on and abused and McDonald lost interest.
McDonald was very supportive of SUFC but in my opinion relied too much on Charles Green to Make decisions and be his mouth peace.

We had a £3m bid for Ricard turned down according to McDonald. A week later he signed for Boro for £2m
