I believe there were also incidents throughout last season where he crossed that line - let me just check what I sent to my mate who's a Leeds fan
Yep, Sept 2024. Deleted quickly and I didn't save it, but it surfaced around the time of his move to Leeds

Footballer expresses personal opinion, publicity, about deeply complex and divisive subject.

Not to suggest that footballers aren't worth listening to, but, there are highly intelligent philosophers, scholars, worlds leaders, professors, intellectuals, the world over, that struggle to unpick and articulate the challenges facing Palestine and Israel.

Personally, I wouldn't put too much stock into what a footballer has to say about world events. You wouldn't ask Rooney his thoughts about the Houthis and the Suez Canal and expect to get the 'right' answer would you?

No, but I'd expect a footballer to think and consider what they're saying and the attention they draw before they publicise something

Look, I don't know the relative intellect of one footballer to the next to but I do know they dedicate their lives to sporting excellence, not rigourous academic toil. In much the same way that they're not going to have all the answers to the large questions challenging humans, they're also not going to have the best judgement. In fact, in that way, they're just like everyone else. Fallible.

I get what you're saying, they're in a privileged position, and ideally should think before they tweet - I'm pretty sure the top players all have PR teams around them, specifically to avoid any 'stupid person says stupid thing online' incidents - but, like I said. Fallible.

Let me know where these fall on the "just condemning killing in his own homeland"

These are nowhere near as bad as I had been led to believe in this thread tbh. We've no idea how the whole situation has affected his (entire) life, but I imagine most of us would be angry, confused and many would believe your own media outlets reporting about the "enemy" after the shocking initial attacks, let alone anything else.

Probably takes a wise head to see the bigger picture at all times, when you're close to the ground/relatives affected etc.

i.e. He's not said "Netanyahu can do no wrong", or anything directly aggressive etc.

It's all very fucked up that we have to think about this - this whole region has been fucked for fuck knows how fuckedy long.

I didn't give his nationality a second thought when he was at Leeds to be honest. So not sure that I need to now, unless there's some actually awful things he's said.

Great player - Barry would initially become the "off the bench" option at LW. Solomon is a Premier League/European Competition standard baller.

I still can't see us getting him because he's too good for the level.

If you compare some of our better loans over the past few years MGW, McAtee, Henderson etc. after having excellent seasons in the championship they all went and played premier league football the following season, Solomon might not be quite as good as Gibbs-White but the season after his loan he became Forest’s record signing, I’d be really surprised if another Championship loan is what Solomon gets this year but we’d be getting some player if true!

The philosophic Joey Barton often offers his views.

It's cost him quite a few bob 😂😂😂

He’s a quality footballer born in Israel - after that I don’t care. And I suspect 95% of our fan base don’t either… get him signed - he’d be great for us.

Footnote: the Israel - Palestine conflict has being going on for decades ….. and it is deep rooted. It will not be settled in the next 50 years…..

What frustrates me massively with this, is that if we were able to sign players like this, even just a couple of them, why have we taken such a gamble with the manager?

Clearly a bit of stability, whether with Wilder or someone similar, in addition to signings of Soloman's quality would have guaranteed us a top end finish

As it is, these quality players stand to just be swallowed up in the avoidable mediocrity and instability of this extreme transition we've elected to embark on
And give teams possibly a 4/5 game start, whoever was in charge of this window wants foooking. All that money buying the club and spunking on Cannon when the first appointment should have been a sporting director to organize all things football.

100% this.

Let's state facts for what they are.

He hasn't supported or praised the attacks by Israel any point.

The only thing he has done is condemn the killing of children in his homeland which is fair enough.

Feels like people want to attack him for simply being an Israeli. (and I'm not just talking Sheffield United fans, West Brom and Leicester fans etc are equally accusatory)

If someone can prove he's actually supported Israel's actions then I would be far more concerned. But as far as know that doesn't exist.

Unless you know 100% his feelings on the matter then I suggest we leave politics out of this and let his football on the pitch do the talking.

Thanks in advance 🙂

My views exactly. Some are lurching dangerously close to not wanting to sign a player, simply for being an Israeli. Unless someone can point out where he has specifically supported a genocide, and like you I have yet to see that anywhere. If that does come to light, then fair enough.

Come on lads, we all know what would happen.

We'd sign Solomon, he'd be brilliant and we'd be too of the league and then he'd start posting genocide comments and get banned by the FA and we'd lose the play-off final 34-33 on pens

That’s got to be the most optimistic thing I have ever seen you put on this site

We would score 33 pens ?? Are you feeling well?? Do you need us to call an ambulance so someone can look at that fever you have

And the media would be posing the question "why can't United show some class like their neighbours do?" while Betts claims to have seen a Hamas tifo on the kop

Ok, resorting to questioning my intelligence because I disagree with you on an internet forum is a much more reasonable course of action. I wonder if I can use any form of criminal activity as an analogy to counter your viewpoint?!
My point was that fans will want to talk about the baggage behind signing certain players and it's understandable that it would happen and unavoidable.

Are you really trying to suggest that I'm wrong given how many times this thread has been derailed?

Also the mention of the name MG caused you to derail this thread too?

If you disagree I wouldn't question your intelligence, I'd be denying it's existence.
