Managing expectations

Come on, we've beaten Sunderland, who are garbage, and a very tired Norwich team in the last 12 games.
It's been tough losing our star quarterback but let's not sugercoat it.
I thought tonight, for the first time, we looked a team that didn't believe it could win in the second half.

We've also drawn away at Villa and Derby and beaten Ipswich and Preston in the cup. We are finding our level. We had a great run, followed by a poor one and now we are in the sort of form that will see you in midtable.

It's looking like we will be the nearly men this season and it's gonna be pretty gutting considering how well we've played this season.

United will finish in the top ten of this division, possibly in the top six, and considering what the club hasn't spent that's a big achievement. Villa were given £60 million and told not to come back until they'd spent it. The second half of the season was always going to be more difficult than the first, simply because the element of surprise has been lost. I happens to most promoted teams once opponents get used to playing them. Tufty's played a blinder. Fans need to be realistic.

Not a single peep for since August 2016. Then as soon as we hit a bad patch..... who'd have thought it.

Like clockwork.

Rubbing his hands before Snodders had even started celebrating.

What a load of suicidal posts on here. That was a great game of football between 2 skilful teams who both put in a real shift.

We hit the woodwork and their keeper made 3 or 4 superb stops. Not sure who was covering Snodgrass at the end (Stevens I guess) but they were the only person in the ground who didn’t know that you should always force him onto his right foot! That one mistake, followed by a world class strike, was the only difference between the sides.

We won’t ever have another season like last season, winning every week, unless we get relegated again, and I for one really enjoyed that game tonight, as it is exactly what I have waited 6 years for - watching us go toe to toe with a really top side. OK, losing is shit but it was a million miles better than the dross battle on Saturday.

We are steadily improving as a squad, and our record suggests that there is no reason why that won’t continue each window.

Bring on Wolves, play like that and it could well be us snatching the last minute winner. That’s why this game is so great.

The Magic is Still Growing

I've said it before AND ILL KEEP SAYING IT!!

We don't know who our best front 2 are, and Tufty doesn't either. Leon was truly awful tonight but then again Holmes instead of Duffy smacked of a manager who was clutching at straws.

The great man needs to have a long hard think about the next few games because once again its was wrong tonight...
With this team, we have been TOP OF THE LEAGUE we have been TOP SIX all season! and we bring in 4 new players to COMPLEMENT our squad, so what’s not to like!! No idea why CW decides to make mass changes? In my opinion he disrupted a good functional and pretty good team by playing 3 of them tonight against an ‘On form Villa’ and brings the other one on off the bench in the second half! What’s would have been wrong with a safe and proven midfield of Fleck, Duffy with the addition of EVANS? to see how it goes, then look at introducing the other slowly over the next few games. We coulda’ shudda’ won this one tonight :/

We've managed 10 points from the last 12 games.
It's a challenging league but that's relegation form and from tonight's second half performance it seems confidence is draining away from the team and manager.

Your last sentence is utter bollocks Sir.

Yes. I thought this team was solid all over the park.
Competed very well and played some lovely football.
For the most part we dominated going forward and defended extremely well when we had to.

We totally matched a very good and in-form Villa side in every department except for grabbing that vital friggin’ goal.

The match stats don’t lie this time.

Regrettably, we cross swords again Pedro. Have a read at your posts tonight eh?

Given form since Coutts broke his leg, that looks very, very unlikely.
Longer term, the concern would be that momentum can work both ways and if we take this kind of form into next season there could be trouble ahead.

I hope you're right but just as winning is a habit so is not winning. There was a definite lack of belief in the second half tonight.

All a bit rich coming from someone who we never hear from when the team are doing well or the manager deserves some credit. Yet you're always at the front of the queue when the opportunity arises to give a "considered" opinion of the doom and gloom facing the club if the Manager or players don't turn things around.

It would be easy to dismiss your digs at the club as wind ups or perhaps an excuse for a bit of mischief at the prospect of a "bite" from a forum member. However, I actually get the feeling that you really believe what you write in your posts. A sort of self appointed Brian the Blade of S24SU who cant wait to come out of his box and give us all his "observations" on how he sees things at Bramall Lane following the slightest setback. Maybe you're the sort of person who'd win a million on the lottery yet complain that it could've been two million.

You have nothing constructive whatsoever to say about Sheffield United when you post on here. It's all so negative and predictable and dull whatever you write and it's beyond me how you've received 274 "likes".

We've had our differences in the past but I just want you to know that I disagree totally with the utter shit you've posted this evening.

Yes winning and not winning is habitual: it's called form...

Lack of confidence maybe, lack of belief is garbage.

Seems like some of those reactionary straight_after-the-whistle posters were new to the forum. Can't help thinking they were truffle-snufflers sniffing around.

Just short of CW taking the team down by adopting the weekly tactic of 'goalie wag' whilst insisting that we play in blue and white stripes, I fail to see how any United fan would conceivably 'turn' on CW. Simple answer is that if they did, they would probably get lynched by an angry mob.

Not saying that CW is infallible with all his decision making but it's as clear to me as the pretty nose on my face that CW and his team are the best thing to happen to Sufc in years.

'Turning' on CW....it aint gunna happen anytime soon.

Wilder spoke after the Bolton defeat and the Pigs draw about needing that "lickle bit o' qualiteh".

For what it's worth, I think we've added that and in doing so, we've added squad depth too - those signings just need time now to bed in and become part of the squad. It may be that they don't bed in quick enough for what we need, but there's no hurrying these things along. That, and we miss Brooks - he's the ace in the pack.
