Managers who have no bottle.....

I would suggest there are as many failures as those that succeed in the Caretaker role. For your Kevin Blackwell, I raise you Chris Morgan and John Carver. Intteresting article on Caretakers from a 3 years ago now in 442:

didn't Blackwell get us to a play off final
you have very high expectation of a club ranked around 30th in the league over. the past 50 ysars

Forest 2nd leg
QPR Away 2nd half
Fulham at home

All games where we had no other choice but to attack and played our best football

If it’s a standard league game he is incapable of sending the players out to attack

He just isn’t a very good manager who got the job undeserved by been in the right role at the right time IMO

I would get rid before the season is a write off whilst there are far better candidates
I understand that from the team talk before the game yesterday he said "Its ok lads, its a standard league game, no need to attack today, even though 9 of you ripped Millwall one last week."

Is that at me? The original comment was abuot managers inheriting shit storms normally succeed. I suggested for each one that does succeed (and Blackwell did succeed) you have at least as many, if not more, that do not.

Managers these days are just scapegoats...you only have to look at. the average lifespan of a manager especially at clubs like Watford.
man utds. new managers heads on the block after 2 games

That is true. You could argue with notable exceptions of a handful of clubs (Man City, Liverpool being a good example), stability is not a keyword for management in this day and age and virtually every manager is a caretaker. Many on this thread, we would be on our third manager this season.

3 average performances out of 4 this season

The good one against the poorest we have played

Surely a good manager will be able to get the same level of performance every week ?

He's an average manager - no more, no less. He could well get us up this season as we seem to have a decent squad and so far the league doesn't look that strong, albeit that could change by the time the window closes.

Time will tell if he's good enough. One thing is for sure though, if we did manage to win promotion then the prospect of Heckingbottom managing us in the Premier League terrifies me, but I'll worry about that if we get there.

And I can just imaging what you would have said if we had swapped Fleck for a young kid with a half a dozen games to his name to close out a game at the end if we had then gone on and conceded or even lost.

Its Monday morning and I am struggling to see why I have even opened this thread. I did see a suggestion about the "bedwetters" having their own thread to comfort each other on how bad we are and how its disgusting that we don't pick up 139 points every season. Think a better option would be for Foxy to add an extra tag, alongside the title so that we know its such a thread and then most of us don't have to open.
Load of balls young kid this young kid that, the young kid who was deemed good enough to do pre season with the man city 1st team. Read the post correctly I didn't say bring a young kid on to close the game more bring some much needed fresh legs and creativity to go for the win at 2-1 up against a team that you know with wilder in charge are gonna chuck players on and go for it. They would've left more gaps for us to exploit, Fleck was non existent and ndiaye was tiring the 3 pts were there for the taking just gotta be braver in such situations.

I wouldn't dispute that. More the style of play.

Instead of trying to close the game out 2-1 bringing on a very ineffective McBurnie and defending, why not put Khadra and McAtee on (who haven't been out of action as long as McBurnie) and defend the lead from an attacking perspective rather than defend the lead from our own defensive third and thus inviting pressure on? They can't score while ever we have the ball, and the further up the pitch we are, the tougher still.

He took us over in the Prem bottom of the league and the form under Hecky, would have been enough to keep us up over the last season. He took us over again last season, facing south and looking like a shambles and our form under him, made us the the 3rd best team in the division. Its 3 games into the new season.........

A point at Middlesboro isn't the issue though

Everybody with more than two braincells knows that if any Sheffield United team sits back and gives away possession we will concede.

There is absolutely nothing more certain than that whether we are playing Man City or Bognor Regis under 11's we will concede.

Everybody with more than two braincells also knows that if we are on the front foot we are as dangerous as any team in the League.

This team doesn't have sufficient braincells to be able to get ahead and then close a game out, the players are too mentally retarded to make good decisions whilst defending.

So the question has to be WHY FUCKING DO IT ?
Spot on we always concede when we play on the back foot and invite teams on to us. Always have done but we never seem to learn. Yesterday we were the better team and Boro were there for the taking but negative tactics cost us 2 points . As you say on paper a point would usually be ok but we were far better than them and looked more than capable of taking all the points then we went into our shell on put on our super sub ha ha went negative and we had all that good attacking talent on the bench straining on the leash .With about 4 mins to go we then decided to put then on TO BLOODY LATE. It is these tactics that fans are upset about NOT THE RESULT.

What's starting to irritate me is in his interviews he's talking about not being brave enough in the final 3rd and then not playing the players who are! 🤔

We have no choice but to accept PH as manager. The owner and Chairman have both publicly sloped shoulders, and left PH in charge of football matters.
If they had no faith in him, why did they then support him financially with funding for what looks like a very good summer window so far?
We should just accept that PH has a conservative and cautious nature, regarding team selection and substitutions.
Having said that, and I am a fan of PH, I can’t see why he picked Fleck to start, and didn’t use more subs given the effects of the weather.

As far as the loan signings are concerned, I suspect they will be drip fed into the team on an as required basis. It’s too big a risk to put all 3 midfielders in a starting line up, home or away, even with a cautious manager.
