Man City banned,Champions league for 5th

Yeah but 4th is the new 3rd, so that means direct to groups I think?

Assume that was the old rules.

Last season Spurs finished 4th and they didn’t need to play a single qualifier.
So I presume that next season all 4 English clubs (even 5th place) are straight through to the group stage.

We would be in seedlings pot 4 though.....so unless we avoid a Russian/ Ukraine team (who auto qualify for pot1) then would face 2 really tough teams.

It seems surreal we are even having this conversation.....imagine Messi playing at Bramall Lane.

Barcelona fans are posting ....'imagine John Fleck playing at the Nou Camp'.

Will be hearing fans bleating and clubs suing, boots ont other foot yer twaaaaaats

The precedent is already set.

We all know that Man City won't be chucked out of the Prem, as it would be;

"Unfair on the fans"

Didn't think about that!!!! 😲

No...the current rules are quite clear.....only cup winners qualify for the Europa Cup.....runners up cant qualify.
If the cup winners can’t go into the Europa Cup for whatever reason then it opens up an extra place in the PL.....was potentially down to 7th, hence why Wolves qualified last season.....but this season down to 8th meaning qualification.

No Villa sill havr to win the cup to qualify. If City win and a top 4 team wins the FA Cup the team that finishes 8th will qualify for the second qualifying round. 8th spot is the new 7th spot. So yeah it still goes on League positions.
Phew, cheers for that information 👍

Although I can see why FFP was introduced, I can’t agree with it. Without a rich owner a club like City couldn’t challenge the status quo. You’re basically allowing clubs like Man U and Arsenal an easier ride when it comes to Champions League qualification.

But if it benefits us, I don’t really care! Throw the book at them UEFA! 😂

As long as he and his teammates have 'their worst game of the season' all will be well 😁

Simples...if they all abide by the rules there’s MORE chance of a club doing what we are close to doing.

Imagine if we hadn’t been shafted out of several points by VAR (long list) and by refs (toon & citeh). We’d be nailed on for a champions league spot.
As it is, I still think it’s unlikely we will stay in 5th realistically. Still, the thought of it is incredible.

Yes but not sure why they shouldn’t be allowed to appeal?
It's just that they buy everything mate how long will it be allowed to continue, they break set rules you get punished end of day I know ban will probably be overturned. That said I want United to finish where we finish on our efforts not those of some team getting banned, but City cannot be allowed to run football the tail does not wag the dog.

Here is my prediction. Finish 5th “qualify” only for City to get it overturned and we end up in Europa League.

It will be the 2020s Tevez affair

The key to this for us may be the fact UEFA have opted for a 2 year punishment initially rather than one. Few commentating on this seem to expect that the full punishment will stick, but having 2 years as the starting point gives room for a compromise to reduce it to one and still have this be a substantial punishment.

And the cost to city will be around £50m minimum in revenue!
Significant....but even more significant if a club like us get that kind of cash in TOP of premier league monies.

we could be seeing £20m signings as just the norm!!!

Good point - also an incentive for Man City to accept the one season, and not challenge it (like Chelsea with their 2 year embargo).

If Man City appeal the ban which there doing ? Will the appeal mean they can qualify for next season ? Or will they be banned whilst appealing ?

The will be banned while appealing, just as Chelea were I think.

EDIT. Chelsea were banned in feb 2019, but the transfer ban in effect didn't kick in until last summer, by which time Fifa were able to reject their appeal. Chelsea then lodged an appeal with CAS, and the ban was halved in December 19.

So it depends on when Uefa can hear the appeal I guess.

Wonder if Kyle Walkers agents been on the phone to us yet.
Plus that ginger Belgian kid they've got isnt a terrible player, we could have him for the bench I suppose

I was listening to an expert on Talksport this morning.

He was saying there’s loads of misleading information.
said that Man City aren’t being punished based on FFP....he explained that there is no comparison with the PSG situation.
also said over spending is irrelevant regards this punishment.

it sounded more like what Chancer might have done at SW.
Putting figures in the accounts where there’s no record of those financial transactions happening.

He said when an owner is using his own companies to pay sponsorship to the club he owns (like at SW)
then if the owner doesn’t transfer the monies in and out of his businesses on a particular date...then it’s basically falsifying accounts,

He also said that when UEFA have sent in their investigators to the Etihad Man City officials have been obstructive....this has also counted against them.
Man City aren’t disputing these allegations....they have chosen to go down the line of criticising the fairness of the process.

He said that quite often on appeal a punishment is cut....he thinks thats why a 2 year punishment has been given...so on appeal it’s reduced to 1 year.
