Man City banned,Champions league for 5th

I wonder if 8th place get a europa league spot if City win EFL Cup and a team already in europe if not us wins the FA Cup.

Yes if the winners of both cups have already qualified or ineligible for Europe....then 8th place qualifies.
The losers in the FA cup cup or EFL no longer qualify for Europe.....they used to do years ago but the PL changed the rules.

Also history shows that clubs never overturn punishments against UEFA.
On appeal punishments tend to be reduced...never taken away.
If Man City have a decent case...then I expect their punishment to get reduced to a 1 year ban.

If I remember correctly, the last time a Premier League club flagrantly broke the rules, the maximum points the PL could deduct from West Ham was 9 points. The disciplinary panel chose only to fine them instead. I wonder if the 9 points maximum is for all discretions or specific to West Ham's misdemeanour, if it has changed, or whether I'm just imagining this? Just wondering what kind of deduction City could be facing?

From what others have said, they aren't breaking PL rules, which are a bit slacker on ffp than uefa rules. Not gospel, just repeating what was said on here.

Don’t get over excited fellow Blades. Just been speaking to a Wendy mate who says he was speaking to some Madrid fans and they are all desperate for the grunters to get back into the Champions League to help with the atmosphere at the grounds

Pep will put his full concentration into winning this years Champions League. It'll be his two finger salute to UEFA as they are presented with the trophy.

He'll put a weakened side out at Hillsborough and City will end up losing.

They'd take 3000 to Kosice on a Thursday night.

On another note it does make you wonder how the fuck Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG have managed to get away with the shit they’ve got up to for so long

Don't think the issue is with the amount of money spent by City, rather the way it has been entered into their accounts.

As I understand it, in a Wednesday-esque move they've declared some money as sponsorship when in fact it's not, it's just the owner pumping money in.

To summarise.
1. Man City found guilty of breaking FFP rules. Handed a fine and a 2 year ban.
2. Man City given leave to appeal UEFA decision.
3. Man City claim they were assumed guilty by UEFA prior to investigation and punishment.
4. Man City appeal to CAS on the grounds that they were assumed guilty, investigated and punished by internal UEFA organisations. Claim that increased sponsorship monies received nd spent by City, were legal and above board.
Wait out now, for CAS decision on Findings and subsequent punishments.

I don’t believe any precedent for this breach of rules exists.
City have a point about UEFA ‘marking their own homework’.
Still think this could go either way.
Meanwhile Sheffield United finish their first season back in the PL as runners up to Liverpool. :)

From what I've read around this, it's not just the money but like said above it's some funny accounting. Something about the Etihad sponsership-city claimed they got over 60 mill for that, but the hacked records show it was actually only 8 million, and the rest was a tuna man style thing being pumped in by a company linked to the owners, not the club.

The size of the ban isn't just FFP, but the fact that city refused to co-operate and essentially maintained the lie rather than just hold their hands up. UEFA therefore hit the 'atomic' button as they call it. The dodgy accounting is pretty much a home run-whether the process was unfair since it was made public or not won't change the numbers, so I reckon at best a reduction in the ban if city can play the arguement that they've been made an example off well. Next year I reckon they'll be out though.

As for the PL, that's not actually FFP, but the dodgy accounting. To have a license to complete in the EPL everything has to be above board, and would match what was sent to UEFA. So if they've sent dodgy books that's a breach of their license-they could actually get kicked out of the PL, and EFL rules state that if a club is booted from PL to EFL they go down to league 2. Unlikely to happen-points deduction most likely but would be hilarious to see.

Oh, and first time poster, long time lurker. Blade since my Grandad used to take me to family enclosure in late 90's so hi all!

The city will be in mourning at that point after the mass suicides in Hillsborogh Park. will neeed a minute before the game to remember the fallen.....;)

I will be smirking through it all.

They'll walk into beely woods pinning notes to loved ones onto the trees...:p

While I’m super excited about the prospect of The Blades getting into the CL in 5th spot, it does seem biased against English clubs. There’s a genuine fear that all 4 semi final spots could be EPL teams for the next few years, and that’s not what UEFA wants.
Man City may be guilty, and if so deserve punishment, but it is inconceivable that Leagues with 1 or 2 CL Big clubs (Holland, France and Germany) that UEFA would ban their countries only chance of a final.
England has 4 spots and all of them are capable of winning it, so the punishment to ban a serious contender, is more likely for us than other European Leagues.
To be blunt it smacks of “Level Playing Field” bollocks, and if the Blades weren’t in the position to gain from it, as a neutral, I’d be a bit annoyed at what is a thinly disguised attempt to nobble the English teams and help the other Leagues.
Put simply and to add to the quote above, PSG have probably broken finance regulation, but UEFA won’t chuck out France’s only chance to win the cup.

HOWEVER: I think Man City will appeal, and they will play next season while a judgment is made, and if upheld the 2 year ban will be the season after.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that the PL rules are less stringent!
The premier League doesn't want to piss off the "big boys" through fear of them joining a possible European super League , where by the premier League will lose its gloss
