Man City banned,Champions league for 5th

Although I can see why FFP was introduced, I can’t agree with it. Without a rich owner a club like City couldn’t challenge the status quo. You’re basically allowing clubs like Man U and Arsenal an easier ride when it comes to Champions League qualification.

But if it benefits us, I don’t really care! Throw the book at them UEFA! 😂
Man Utd and Arsenal are currently in 9th and 10th. Their downfall is down to their appointment of cack managers and overpaying players who then do pretty much as they wish. Liverpool seem able to compete with City at home and in Europe.

IMHO the CAS has a pretty good reputation for fair and impartial decision making, and they do usually get it right. Huge respect to them for independent impartiality.

Would this be a bad time to ask City if they could still win the EFL Cup final in case we slip a few places?

As for UEFA "marking their own homework", it was the ex president of Belgium leading the investigation and 5 judges doing the judging. Other than being paid by UEFA I would hope that they would be impartial.

I won't believe we are in Europe until there is a view from Barcelona or Real Madrid

Suggestions floating around that if it's true that they've fudged the accounts that it would be exactly the same paperwork that they have to submit to the Premier League. Could have even further ramifications for them domestically, or it could be a case where it's pretty clear cut that they lied if they submitted two different versions of the same thing.

What's the betting the premier league knew about them cooking the books, but decided to let it slide?

Incredibly, i'm ITK on this story. Pep has cancelled a family skiing holiday (no wonder he wanted the premier league to have a winter break) to fly back to Manchester for talks with the big bosses. They are understandably shitting it about the prospect of him leaving. Personally, I think that he might use this as an excuse to leave for Juventus or PSG, as his squad looks as if it may need a big overhaul - particularly in defence.

Fucking mental isn’t it...

No it’s not....
I mentioned this on another thread how the general football fan doesn‘t seem to think FFP is that serious.
Its financial doping....similar to an athlete taking steriods......basically it’s cheating.

The rewards for financial doping are difficult to quantify...but could be 200 million plus.
We could ignore FFP and sound 400 million on players next season and probably get into Europe every year....but that would be cheating the rules.
Where as theres no evidence that rascist incidents gains that club any additional points.

When you think about it a 30 million fine seems pretty lenient.

25million pound fine. but racist chanting gets you a 10,000 fine.

Football in 2020.
Ehhh?
Club has little control of what a dickhead fan does, except react after the event.
FFP is a pre meditated decision to break the rules, by club management. A breaking of the rules that sees them win even more money and shaft clubs who stick to the rules - such as us.

Reading today that City aren't worried and expect the ban to be overturned. If their appeal with CAS fails, they plan on taking their appeal higher up, the Swiss Federal Supreme court for example.

In other words, take it further up until it gets revoked. Apparently, City are far richer than Uefa and can afford better lawyers, quite how this makes it certain to fall in city's favour is beyond me.

If I murder someone and there's shit loads of evidence against me, paying billions to a law team is hardly going to guarantee my let off is it!?

I’d suggest it depends on what country you were in. You wouldn’t be the first person I was aware of that killed someone and got away with it by bribing officials to lose evidence. Sadly...

Great explanation here:

And why do people keep referring to this bloke as ‘ex President of Belgium’ like it’s some great qualification? Have you seen some of the recent Presidents? Imagine someone saying ‘hey this committee is legit, we’ve got Don Trump in charge’. Ask a Belgian about their politics. If they can explain it to you and you understand it, give me a heads up.

Being in a number of African/Asian countries is one thing....

Bloody hell definition of don't shoot the messenger!

Just saw it on Twitter and thought i would share - my point being is i don't buy the complaints from Man City fans that 'this is because UEFA hates us'

Sorry, wasn’t having a go at you, just asking some questions as it appeared to be someone close to it justifying it.
Of course it’s got nowt to do with Man City. It was Chelsea and Abramovich that worried them because they realised that if he could do it, others could too.

Anyway, it was common to kill the messenger if they bought bad news but it was mainly before the invention of guns so they just beheaded or stabbed them usually.

Being wealthy gets you away with a lot in criminal law but in this kind of civil law it's even greater. At the very least, it allows you to ask the question: just how much money do UEFA want to risk for the sake of this ruling? £10m? 100m? The owner can throw more at it if it helps. And what if they were to lose and with it goes the potential of enforcing any penalty on another club for doing the same?

This kind of law is so very often about how much either side is willing to fight.
