Two things...

does his sending off count towards a league match ban and should we have concerns over his discipline? getting sent off in a meaningless fixture, sent off last season in the first team etc?

It's part of his learning experience... And obviously learning from morgs :)

Can't really comment having not seen tonight's. But I felt last season's was harsh, Stead certainly made the most of any contact and I felt the ref was quick to even things up after their man was dismissed in the first half. Seen him quite a bit for the Academy over the last 2 seasons and he doesn't seem to have a problem.

There is a fine line between total commitment to the cause and being seen as half hearted. Sometimes you are damned if you don't and damned if you do. In the game last season, if he hadn't had made a challenge would he have been chastised? I would rather have an honest defender who makes the odd error of judgement than one who isn't bothered or is continually on the edge. I am sure he will turn into a good pro - he may not have great pace, but he can certainly play and seems to read the game well.

just so you know - it wasnt a doom and gloom post, more a case of calling on the opinions of people who have seen him play a lot, personally i agree with the consensus he seems to lack pace for a youth but a great reader of things and can only really be a case of ironing out a few creases in his game over the next couple of seasons

Not getting at you Puppet just trying to make a point in general. I hope he is a regular next year as it will be a great learning curve for him. I would also like to see him rested at times. I also think Kennedy should get a chance as he looks a very good prospect. Some on here want instant change whereas the potential in 2-3 years could be great and time maybe the one thing we do need.

Think its something to keep an eye on rather than to worry about. One of the problems last season was poor discipline. Problem is some people see a two footed lunge as thuggery while others see it as passion for the cause.

Someone needs to have a quiet word with him and explain he doesn't want to spend his career as a marked man.

I like Maguire but does he not get caught out a bit when pace comes into it? Stead made a meal of it yes but he's now been sent off twice and didn't he make a silly mistake for a goal towards the end of last season? Can't remember who against, it was at home though??

It appears from the reports tonight that this sending off was like his previous as in they were both stopping a clear foal scoring opp rather than serious foul play.

Was vs Barnsley the goal you're referring to.

As for the original post, I think it is just something he needs to learn from. It will come for him.

He does have a tendency to push peiople in the back when going up for headers, I also don't think his reading of the game is that great either.
But, I want him in the starting line up.

He often looked a step ahead of most opponents at youth level, different game once you move into the first team though.

His pace is an issue, but hopefully one that the rest of his game will make up for.

With his willingness and usefulness going forward, we're going to have to make sure we have speedy defenders/a pacey midfielder to cover for him.

That penalty was conceded as a result of a typically aimless pass by a non-footballer who specialises in such activities. Let's hope he's doing it elsewhere next time.

As far as I can see, being sent off in a friendly means you miss the club's next friendly. In terms of suspension, there's a few cases if you look around the net but on foreign soil, it seems to revolve around whether or not the particular countries FA report it to ours. Under the circumstances, I don't think there's any problem, particularly as we have another two friendlies due anyway.

Re Foxy's point about him getting forward, there's an interview with him on Blades Player and he says as much about having cover behind him so it's obviously something we're working on. Could be a decent price for 1st goal scorer next season ;)

he also says he's learning from Collins...uh-oh.

OR, just keep hold of Monty and leave him in the hole for set pieces.

That's the way Barlow described it, a player got in behind him and he just naively went for the tackle in desperation. He has to learn when to accept he has been beaten, as a penalty and red card is usually much worse than just a conceded goal.

It's not just that though Bergen, Maguire is big enough that even his presence may put off some players and cause them to miss their shots - he doesn't have to put the tackle in to prevent a goal.

Should have used Ladbrokes online like I did :D

25/1 ;)

As Daz says, there was a bookies in the ground at least in our side of the "moat".

Your win even made it on to Radio Sheffield, not the local news, but it was read out on PorG. I imagined you've retired early on the proceeds :-)
