Name me a better English defender at the moment? With him being the best, coupled with how much English players usually go for nowadays and you’re not far off the silly fee he’s gone for. GLTTL.

If Phil Jones can go to Man Utd for nearly £20M in 2011 then this makes the Maguire fee seem quite cheap.

We're lucky: we had an 80 million pound defender for years; he's been doing nothing for Hull and Leicester that he wasn't doing for us (granted at a higher level). He could do with a decent partner or two at Man Utd mind you.Nice words from Pep about him yesterday by the way.

Obviously our immediate sell-on went with the Leicester purchase, but if Hull get a sell-on (reported as 15%) we might be entitled to some of it depending on the whether we were also entitled to a cut of Hull’s future profit.

We should be entitled to a further payment from Manchester United though in the form of a solidarity payment. Maximum of 5% of the transfer (could be a lot less depending on how it’s calculated).

I often wonder if all those games for us in League One helped cut his teeth and made him the player he is now.

I'm not sure he'd have done as well if he'd have been at a top Premier League academy.

It’s certainly not done him any harm. He played a lot of games for us including two Wembley appearances.

Harry Maguire, the World's most expensive defender ever. I can hand on heart say I was never sure he'd quite cut it in the Prem due to a lack of pace. Brilliant to have seen him progress like he has and its the type of signing Man Utd need to be making if they're to ever get back to where they were. GLTTL.

Do we really get a cut from the fee ? Hull done really well from it.

That said... can anyone hand on heart say they thought he'd go right to the top? (the worlds most expensive defender and playing for Man United?).

I'm delighted for him, but have to say, I never saw that kind of future for him when he was with us. He's done really well in the way he's pushed on.

I guess that’s the reason for the inflated market. People will know say well Maguire is £80m so this guy must be worth more. Etc etc.
