Madine

Long ball option, serious repeated threat in the air, nasty bastard in the opposition box, can take one or more defenders with him leaving gaps for other attackers.

Good job we play long ball loads then...

A few decent crosses would have tested him. None were forthcoming in the 2nd half. Despite having 2 decent crosses in the first, many were wasted. If we could afford 2 top quality full backs we’d be 10 points clear

Yes. Can’t disagree. But today was one of those days where we needed something different to turn a defeat into a draw but we didn’t test test the keeper after madine came on.

Obviously this is the first chance he has had and he will rightly be given more opportunities, but this is a game where we needed something out of long balls into the box.

Games played for Cardiff 19 goals scored 0 important penalties missed 1.... replaced by a full back playing up front ..... warnock has had our pants down

So we push Egan up front, bring on Stearman, concede, and Egan heads over like he mostly does, if he's there at all because he's not got a strikers instinct at all.

If we had Aden Flint from last season maybe but Egan has scored one header this season and that came off Rhodes.

Tbf, Liverpool don't sign a target man, and put Van Dijk upront if they start hoofing it.

OP is mad, Madine was alright. I just wish we kept trying to play football instead of trying to play like Warnock and failing miserably.

I felt we did not look like scoring at all and barely had an attack 2nd half - nothing. I had no issue with going a bit long. We did not look like getting in the last third at all. For what its worth Madine did ok - held it up, played others in. Was fine and one of our better players 2nd half amongst a sea of bad ones. I dont want us to go direct at all but we were 1-0 down and had barely kept it or looked like creating much passing wise at all - I had no issue with knocking the ball in the box but the angle of cross was poor.

It's not Madine's fault though is it? He did his part when he could, heading stuff down but we stopped playing football. We did it before he even arrived, at a certain point when losing we forget how we've done so well and just start hitting and hoping, at least Madine has a chance of getting on the end of them, but really, it's the other players not having cool enough heads to persevere and try and work an opportunity.

No I'd just play the other strikers .... my point is Egan etc can head it down and put themselves about which is all Madine does .... we don't need a long ball option we need a fast player who can go at defenders

You are as docile as the other bloke aren't you?

Pair of muppets

I’m sorry you’ll have to explain that.

You’ve seen the bit where I said Madine played well when he was tonight haven’t you? Or are you just getting angry without thinking first?

He can't answer the question so he resorts to personal insults

When is Egan going to do this though without leaving him up the pitch? Considering he's 98/100 behind Norwood who'd be playing the long ball. Is he supposed to run the length of the pitch and beat the pass?

We also have a fast striker, Washington. Maybe he'll find his way back on to the bench when Wilder forgives him for Barnet.

You’re right, on both counts.

My point was that Madine was brought in because of this very circumstance. We put in lots of crosses, we lack a target man, we lack a plan B, we lack a physical presence.

All were true today and we’ve come away without testing the keeper after madine came on.

I’m not at all saying that it’s Madines fault, but if those are the reasons that Madine has been signed then today’s result may have highlighted that Madine alone won’t be enough to turn those losses into draws, and draws into wins.

The angle of delivery was reminisant of Beckham hitting Crouch for England, or even Flo for Norway. ;)

I’ve no issue with going long, but you need to have players going beyond the flick on or picking up the knock downs on the edge of the box. We don’t have the pace/mobility on the flicks nor the hustling shooting midfielder for the knock downs. We were relying on a lucky bounce in the box and a scramble.

Far be it for me to blow my own trumpet regarding McBurnie, but from September last year.....

He's better than LC & so is GM, who'll be available to championship clubs on loan come January. If we are there or there abouts in January a decision has to be made. We'll need a striker who'll score at least 10 goals in 4 months.

I know he scored but he was fucking shit apart from that and Swansea fans think the same. Your correspondent from the shit House of the walkabout Swansea while having a poo

Why not use a defender?

Because the role of target man is a specialist position - much like being a defender is a specialist position, you can throw Egan up there to ‘win a few headers’ but that is last resort. Madine is a target man, which means not just winning headers, it means linking up the play from midfield to attack, it means taking up good attacking positions, it means being able to bully a defender and be a good finisher - Egan is a brilliant defender but could not do this.

Ok.
Egan was better than Dowell. Who didn't touch the ball.

He did, several times actually, and broke through the middle, only to over hit the pass out of play, he played a few other nice passes albeit fairly straightforward ones and was generally looking to move play forward.

My overall opinion is that both Madine and Dowell are good additions.
