He was indeed a great character.
The first of the family to go to University.
The first of the family to become a millionaire.
The first of the family to be recognised by a European country for his work in archaeology (Iceland)
The first of the family to settle in Sheffield, then other family members followed him, living all over the UK.
The first of the family to visit Bramall Lane, he even went to Hillsborough.
The first of the family to have children in England, although we've looked into the ancestry and there's a
possibility that a distant relative moved to Liverpool in the 1850's.
The first of the family to help with the 1963 expedition (German) to summit Everest.
The first of the family to live in the USSR.
He was a very proud Irishman, a Fenian, a Republican.
None of us can hold a candle to man, his legacy isn't kept alive by family, but by his deeds.
He's buried in Sheffield, which didn't please all the family, in St Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
If I am able to, i'll post a photograph of him on here. Some of you may know him.
