Should he stay or should he go? The last of the not good enoughs or the first of the is good enoughs? Can he hack it in a quality midfield as we now have or would his prescence denigrate it?

Who was said animal in the Coutts - Flecks- Duffy trinity?

Weeeell John. Where should I start?

Was fine as a sub to shore things up against Villa.

Will be a perfectly good midfielder in conjunction with Norwood or Coutts. He now has the opportunity to carve out his own identity without having to emulate a very different kind of footballer.

Personally I hoped we'd keep Leonard instead but if Lundstram can up his intensity and tackling for 90 mins then maybe there's a player in there. Age is on his side.

He is possibly the most incredibly adequate player in the Championship.

Keep him for this season.

But if we sold him now, what would we get for him? Would we recoup the 700k?

How do you feel when you look at the bench and he is the only midfielder on it. I can't accept Lafferty as one.

Think Lundstram is a good all rounder, he’s good at many things midfield related but is far from mastering anything. He’s currently a very poor mans Steven Gerard.

Lunny has tried the Coutts defensive midfield role, he’s good at tackling, can make some good long passes but lacks composure and sometimes gives the ball away in bad areas.

Lunny has tried Flecks box to box driving midfielder role. He has the energy and can tackle but his decision making is hit and miss, tends to keep it safe with too many sideways passing. Also he’s had a few half chances arriving late in the box but tends to miss the goal.

If he stays the current standard then get rid.

However Lunny is still young and liable to improve. He still has a lot of potential, so I would keep and develope him.

Really believe in 2 or 3 years he’ll do a Paul Coutts and be one of our key players.

It's not even about what he can and can't do, he's adequate at a lot of stuff and will probably have a half decent Championship career. He's hideously wrong for Sheffield United and the way we play though. He stays until we find someone who fits.

I refer you to the post of

And this has to be the way ahead, great squad player generally good all round without excelling particularly, so good cover without being too expensive. How much is a player like that when 'moneybags Sheff Utd' come knocking?

Think he's mid to low end Championship at best but could be carried if necessary by Fleck and Norwood. Probably a useful filler when needed but not a snowflakes chance in he'll he'll start another meaningful game unless we are injury or suspension ravaged.

It was all getting a bit frantic against Villa (yes I know we were 4-1 up) - it was pinging about and even though we would have still won the game, if Villa had scored a second, and maybe a third in injury time, the mood would have been very different on the way home.

He came on, he tackled, he pushed the ball up to a United foot and he did alright. My gripe has been how he slows the game sometimes, by passing to the feet rather than in a space to run, but this is what we needed at that game, and will need again this season.

We don't need Lunny to be creative now, so we can stop criticising him for not doing what he can't do. I think he'll be important this season.

Why is this even a question? We have a capable 24 year old midfielder who can cover all the roles in the middle if necessary. Yes we have better players in each position, however to think about getting shut would be madness. We don't have anyone else!

Simple. We get rid of him and get someone else, only better. We can't keep passengers in the squad just because he made one good tackle. Doyle getting a stay of execution just because of his silly walk was bad enough.

I think and hope he will be replaced by a much better option in January. He is a jack of no trades and a master of far fewer.

Keep the lad and work on his game. He has potential and will come on in his development.

He's also still only a pup. Give him time. If he's not doing it or developed at the end of the season then fair enough, but let's give him a chance first.

He will do a job for us this season.

There will be a queue of Lg 1 clubs wanting his services when the January loan window opens, hopefully.

Next Feb he will be 25 years old and should be entering his prime as a footballer, how much time do you give this pup.

Really?
Having a successful squad is more about having flexibility than having all superstars.
I feel Lundstram has a role to play and time to improve. All this negativity is not the best way to get the best out of him.
Luckily CW and AK are at the club to do the right thing.
