Tin hat on...........

I always thought he became a scapegoat for us.

He was brilliant til we signed Berg and then threw his toys out of the pram as Berg was paid huge amounts more. Sadly both Berg and Lunnny
have been crap since then.

I can relate to Lunny as I've had a similar situation at work where other less experienced colleagues have come in and been paid more
than me and let me tell you it hurts. (not similar in terms of money I am on obviously, but you get my point).

He will play champions league football next season and win the league. A big step up from championship for me. Fairplay to him.

He’d already turned to shit by the time Berge arrived. He’d lost his place to Mo Besic on a number of occasions.

If anyone can feel hard done to about the situation it’s Besic. He’d done alright and dropped right down the pecking order once Berge joined. He ended up going back to Everton and hasn’t really kicked on. He deserved to be kept on over Lundstram any day for me.

Berge was actually intended to replace Norwood rather than Lundstram. So even if he had thrown his toys out which would have been ridiculously unprofessional he’d have thrown them out over a player the club saw as competition for someone else. Players usually see competition as a good thing to spur them on to raise their game. Not get tit on.

Berge is a good player, Lundstram isn’t. Berge is / was new to the country, league and team and was bound to take a while to adjust. By the time he was getting up to speed lockdown happened and our premier league journey turned to shit. Lundstram had been here years.

Lundstram has never put in a performance like Berge did in the win over Spurs / few other moments. Yeah we’ve not seen enough yet but Lundstram scored a few goals making a good run arriving in the box late and did fuck all else.

scottish premier league is equivelant of our championship and as somebody has already said he would have lasted about 3 games at the lane with crowds in putting those performances in it would have been that hostile towards him still blame wilder though for continually picking him wonder if we will ever find out the real reason somat didnt smell right about it somehow

Play Champions League football until they’re knocked out at first stage.

Win the Scottish league.

It’s not a step up.
Have to agree to disagree there fella. Even a run in the Europa league is worth a go for me. Gerrard is a top bloke to play for in my view as well, good luck Lunny.

His performances were as bad as Fleck, Norwood, Stevens, Berge, Ampadu and plenty of others in midfield. As I said, he was a scapegoat.

It's understandable that Rangers fans think we don't like him because of last season but he was (often unfairly) disliked for most of his time here. In the first season he failed to replace Coutts and we had to bring Lee Evans in. Second season he started 5 games and even Basham was in midfield ahead of him in certain games. Third season he has a phenomenal 3 month period before losing his place post Christmas to Besic and then Berge. 4th season he was poor in the early stages(as were the rest of the team) before becoming a complete joke by the end.

In 4 seasons he had no more than 20 decent games. He was a nothing player for the vast majority of his time here and he was never going to get a Premier League club after leaving.
As good a summary of his time with us as I’ve seen—including the “often unfairly” line.

It's strange with Lundstram. He was non descript for the most part of his time here. … He's done incredibly well to get a move to Rangers, despite what people think of the league, given how he couldn't hold down a first team place here in his 4 seasons.
I’ll apologise for the analogy, because it’s not really fair on Jags, but this transfer does remind me a bit of when Jags went to Everton, having proven that he was a top-class centre-half in the making while looking a bit lost and ineffective as a central midfielder, even at Champ level. Everton then proceeded, initially, to play him in central midfield.

I remember thinking at the time that Everton’s due diligence (or “scouting”, if you want) must have been pretty bloody hopeless, relative to the cash they were prepared to throw at him.

Obvs Lundstram in the Scottish Premiership is a couple of notches down from Jags’ circumstances, but as per your summary in the first quote, above, it does make you wonder how thorough Rangers have been.

Interesting one. Mo Besic did hardly anything if I can recall apart from the odd good game in the cup? Really not sure what he did to justify being kept over Lunny? Happy to be wrong on this and you're probably right that Berge was brought to replace Norwood, but I don't get why Berge become the darling of the lane instantly and achieved nothing for us in the end? Just seems that Berge was more likeable and technically gifted, but there were several matches where he played like he didn't care before his injury.

to be fair mate I remember Berge getting his fair share of stick on here after a few games where he looked off the pace. I wouldn’t say he’s the darling of the Lane but comes across as a nice lad and has potential to be a brilliant player. I don’t recall games where he didn’t care, he had some bad games though for sure… unlike Lundstram who was giving the ball away and literally walking back at times. Then there was his celebration against Bournemouth. Pushes his team mates away to point at himself. Massive bellend.

Besic did alright from what I remember, always out a shift in, tackled well and looked tidy in possession. Just unspectacular and didn’t score the goals like Lundstram did in his purple patch.

We all celebrated Lundstrams goals 8 pints in like knobheads riding the wave of our success. We were creating some of the best memories in Uniteds recent history and I think that’s clouding people’s memories of just how average (at best) Lundstram is as a footballer.

Rangers are a big club though and it’s a good move for him. He won’t look out of place playing for them and the fans will probably take to him. Bar Rangers and Celtic the rest are lower championship / league 1 at best. For every John Mcginn there’s 100 Ryan Flynn / Stefan Scougalls (who’ve done well up there and aren’t good enough for mid table league 1). I’d be surprised if they’re paying him much more that we offered him too. Probably ended up there out of stubbornness and realises United fans think he’s a prick.

Scapegoat my arse! How any blade can condone his lack of effort which was painfully obvious is behond me, something stinks about is inclusion in the side which only Wilder can explain.

Agreed JP.

HH
Lundstram pissed on our chips by putting in less than a shift. IMO he was carefully avoiding injury whilst winding down the clock
I have no issue with a want away player who still plays his best for the side before moving on
Never mind. It sticks in the throat though that He is more likely to win medals with his new chums than with us

We should have got rid long ago. Once he refused the contract we should have sidelined him and used the young players as we would have got more effort from them and they would have got invaluable experience. In all honesty it was an embarrassing situation all round.
Our previous manager kept picking him. We also got relegated. Funny business this footbslll.

Who says he wasn't trying his best?

He was trying his best, unfortunately he is wank.

I understand that many blades think Lunny is a prick and I think it was the right decision to drop him in the end, but I just don't get the hatred for him. On the Bournemouth goal, he had been playing well and was dropped and came in and proved a point by scoring. The celebration was making a point to the gaffer. Many players do it, and fair enough I think as he proved his point that he shouldn't have been dropped.

Don't get me wrong, nobody was more suprised than me when Lunny played as well as he did in the first few months of us in the prem, but after that I felt he deserved his place. Going to Rangers is a good move for him I think. Crap league yes, but likely to win a league and or cup and have a go in Europe. He won't get that with us.

I might have been slightly interested in this transfer, If we’d have got a bit of coin for him...We didn’t. So fuck off Lunny.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt until the Leeds game on the 5th April 2021. I couldn't believe his lack of effort trying to get back as Leeds broke away. Ampadu who had started way behind him raced past him as recorded in this report:-

What happened next proved the final straw for many Sheffield United fans.
With Leeds breaking at their customary pace, and John Fleck losing his footing, they had a three-on-two situation. Lundstram was the nearest Blades player to the ball and Raphinha; Ben Osborn and Rhian Brewster were racing back to cover.
Ethan Ampadu, the United defender, was in the Leeds area when the free-kick came in and by the time Raphinha raced clear, was at least 15 yards further up the pitch than Lundstram. Within three seconds, he had caught his teammate up and a few moments later was in a position to almost cut out the Brazilian’s cross, which Stuart Dallas put narrowly wide.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, fucking disgraceful. I didn't watch the next game when I saw Lundstram on the teamsheet

and for the seasons prior to that................very little, nothing much at all. In fact he couldn't get in the side most of the time. You know that!!
Lundstram has never been and never will be anything better than very average (bar a few decent showings in our 1st PL year he did nowt)
Dress it up as you like but the majority of fans are not mugs

Really hope it works out for Lunny at Rangers. He clearly wanted away for a while and it’s a shame we couldn’t get a fee for him

Head was definitely turned and he perhaps should’ve been dropped earlier, but fair play to him, he always put on the shirt and did a job.

I don’t buy into the rhetoric that he didn’t try and he was lazy. Let’s face it the entire side was shit this last season. He may have been the worst some games, he may have been one of the better players other games.

I’ve not read through this thread but seen some comments on Twitter that don’t sit right, border on abuse, some cross the line.

He was part of the best side of my lifetime and was a big player in that fantastic first season in the prem. Thanks Lunny and good luck

In an interview he describes Glasgow as a proper football city with proper football fans like Liverpool - was that a parting dig at us?

scapegoat ? you having a laugh none of the other players played well i will give you that one but they all put more effort in than that useless prick took the piss every game he played he wants to be thankful there were no crowds what happened to george long would have been like an ovation at the side of what this guy would have got mind still blame wilder for picking him good riddance to him utb ftp

Disappointed that Lundstram hasn’t thanked anyone at Sheffield United for the last few years on Instagram. Straight to an “In your face” post about joining Glasgow Rangers. Fuck off John.

Even if they were as bad as that twats, which in general they weren’t they at least tried, that twat lummoxed around the pitch, pointing at every other player to do his job for him.

The twat tried to get an early booking in every game so he could use it as an excuse to not put the effort in. I’ll give him some credit though, the twat wasn’t daft in that sense.

We all have opinions Gav, on certain players and everything in general but I couldn’t disagree more with your thoughts on the biggest twat to pull a Blades shirt on in my living memory.

Coutts = He never gives the ball away 1234 !

Lunny = He ALWAYS gives the ball away 1234 !
