Player Suggestion Luke Steele

I do agree that Wilder has proved very efficient in sorting squads out so far but I’m interested in how you’ve come to that conclusion because I think we’ll have a small, ageing squad with quality in certain areas of the pitch with the evidence I’ve seen so far?

It’ll be an interesting next few weeks that is for sure, something that could make or break our season which ever way it goes.

I hope it doesn’t go to Jim White day.
If we add the centre half, attacking midfielder and strikers wilder wants I can’t see where we’d be exposed?

Henderson, JoC, Fleck, Baldock, Evans - plus signings, hardly dads army.

“If” is the big problem, the closer it gets to the window shutting the more the prices go up and we very rarely if ever pay more than the “going rate” for a player, do we?

I agree to an extent, but also teams will want their squads finalised and players they are willing to let go, they wont want around so might accept lower to get them out.

Just a case of who will blink first. Will panic at the end of the window if we are no better off

Massive ‘if’, 100% agree.

But I have more trust with the ‘ifs’ under Wilder than any other manager in my lifetime.

He’s clearing the decks, he has to be confident of pulling deals off. He’s not daft enough to leave himself this exposed. Surly? Hopefully...:D

Hes going to quit the day after the window closes in protest of our shithouse owners.

Not really, no. Why is it united chasing the money and not moore? Its hardly going to be millions and millions for him is it?

Because United have plenty of form and there is no evidence Moore was angling for a move. He's no Brooks either and United could easily have resisted if it was indeed the case that he was the instigator. United are cunts when it comes to offloading players for a sniff of money.

Straight up lie though? "Has there been an offer from West Brom?" "There's been no offer for Moore from West Brom"

Hmmm

He might be going somewhere, don't think it'll be West Brom though based on that and the fact they've got a full complement of GK already.

Nixon talks a load of bollocks so I'll not hang on his word, and I've read in the Star that he's negotiating for a new contract too so I wouldn't say it's as cut and dry as people think.
Their GK coach Cutler says he wants ‘3 young athletic keepers to push each other’.

Bond won’t be their 2nd choice.

Whether their main competition (shadow) for Johnstone is Moore remains to be seen but why would we be trialing Steele if your point about having a ‘full compliment’ of keepers is right? We already have 4. WBA are trying to lose Myhill and Foster. We will be losing Long. So that would leave us with 3 - why on earth would we be trialing Steele if that’s the case?

Moore will get a nice big payday to sit on their bench. I can’t even blame him.

Just thought he’d have more about him than to be a benchwarmer. He’s been pretty happy to do that for a while though.

At the time of the interview when CW told radio Sheffield that 'there had been no offer for SM from WBA', there probably hadnt been an offer. That said, he might have been aware that there was every likelihood that one might materialise in the new couple of weeks.

If it has then CW hasnt lied. He's just not told the full story which is his perogative.

I also happen to think that there's probably no smoke without fire and that SM will be off soon. I was never SM's biggest fan though so I could live with it without throwing the toys out of the pram.

But there is tons of evidence that we have been doing all we can to get rid of moore to add a couple of grand to the bank balance?

Wilder said he didnt want to sell anyone and from his perspective the shutters were down. So surely any move has to come from moore?

This is a pointless argument. The club will always carry on as they do when our fans keep swallowing the bullshit they feed us.

...and again, the flip side to this is that the players not wanted by their clubs are generally not wanted for a reason. The ones that we could get, who are any good, will normally only be available for loans, I think this backward planning is what’s getting to some people because they think that’s what it’ll come to?

Not to say loans are bad but they’re hardly forward planning and don’t bring any income into the club through transfers. I myself prefer the player to be ours because atleast we profit from it and we’re not improving someone elses player for us to have possibly a mid table finish, like last year?

I agree 100%. Would much rather have permanant players in we can utilise. Just the pond we are fishing in at the moment

I know and that’s what’s frustrating when we thought we had a better budget than last year and that was before the sale of Brooks.

I really hope we bring the 5 players in required to atleast make us stable enough in the division. As it stands we’re only one or two injuries away from a very tricky season.

Yup. I have faith in CW. He wouldnt be sanctioning this deals and clearing the decks if incomings were not imminent, makes no sense. Holding my water till window closes and then is the time to panic or be content, probably more so that coutts is still a couple of months away.

Everyone is forgetting the other option,

CW: Lets get that extended deal signed
SM: I need to time to think about my options (more money, game time etc)
CW: OK I understand

SM: Gaffer whats Luke coming on trial for
CW: i need to consider our options, dont want to be caught with my pants down if you don't sign that deal.
SM: shit shit shit bluff has been called.......... OK I understand

PS. he's still injured and that why he inst in the squad tonight.

Maybe it's unlikely, but Steele could be signed as back up to Henderson and Moore. Long is off to Hull and Eastwood can then be loaned out to gain experience.

Like Ramsdale who set no worlds alight at the worst team in the league, where he had every chance to excel?
Is there a academy prospect you like? The only one I’ve never heard you stick the knife into is Kyle Walker.

So that would be a yes then? Kid
I bet Chris is considerably better at poker than you.

It’s a case of ‘if you want him, pay a bit more’. There’s no reason to look at Steele if we already have 2 first team keepers.

Considerably, I’m sure. I’m terrible at poker.

If he wants them to pay more why would he tell them he’s injured? Why would they pay more for someone who’s injured?

Could be that we’re looking to loan Eastwood out, though I wouldn’t presume to know for sure. I’d tell you to ask Wilder why we’re looking at Steele but he’d only lie to you.

Chris doesn’t lie to us mate. You’re getting confused with Adkins.

If he can’t say, he won’t say. But he’s never tried to bullshit us. I don’t think it’s in his character to do that.

I think Moore will be off. I don’t blame him one iota tbh. And I won’t miss him. I suspect Wilder thinks he’ll go as well. But it’s legitimate with 3 weeks before the season is due to start, to look at cover if Moore is injured. Until a deal for Moore is done that’s the main reason.

Nothing against the Academy or youngsters. I like good players. Young, old, black, white, local, distant. I don’t distinguish. I don’t add a premium for where they come from or who they support. Blade, not Bladey.

I was actually responding to yet another tiresome and predictable cheap shot at the club the authors claim to support. Is there any Chairman the Agenda Brigade like? I’ve only ever heard them stick the knife in.

There is no evidence at all that selling Ramsdale for that figure was the wrong thing to do.
